For Karnataka, and hence Bengaluru, the local language is Kannada. After 5,5 years here I can definitely distinguish if someone is speaking Kannada or a different language, as I know the rhytm and melody of Kannada. Also I know ila (no), houdou (yes), and waste mad bedo because of @chillystudio series (my FAVE Kannada content creator). Like many immigrants and adults I love learning new languages, but building a new life abroad is extremely taxing. I not only shifted to Bengaluru, I shifted countries. Only immigrants understand how taxing this is and how much time/energy goes into figuring out daily life. I'm also very shy to speak a new language, like many adults. Kudos to everyone who learned Kannada, and thank you Kannadigas for being so kind to us gotilla's who haven't managed. You're so welcoming to outsiders, and I'll be forever grateful for how kind Bengaluru has always been to me🫶🏻 PS drop easy Kannada words in the comments if you wanna show off the language and hopefully I'll pick up some more Kannada from you🫶🏻 Shout out to @shutterdrives and Srigandh for being such nice anna's🤪

I appreciate your love, gratitude and positivity towards Kannadigas and Karnataka (especially Bangalore). Kannada is a beautiful language also the easiest South Indian language. I'm sure you'll learn with time. It's not easy to adapt to a whole new culture and country, it takes time and you've been doing great here, better than many North Indians I must say! Kannad is not worng man. Use your brain. We telugu people call karnataka residents as Kannadigulu. Telugu is called as Telungu in malayalam. And we accept it because its the name of our language in their language. For example English is called as Anglam in Telugu. No american or britisher comes and fights with me to stop calling English as Anglam. Because they use their brains. They understand that Anglam is the name that Telugu language has for English. We call Tamil as Aravam in Telugu. No Tamil person fights with me to not to call their language Aravam. What wong with Karnataka people. Why are you not using your brains? Kannada is a very ancient language, which needs to be preserved. I agree that people should not be discriminated for not knowing kannada, but still I see lots of software engineers living in Bengaluru for 8-10 years and still don't try to learn it.

Yes. This is the right approach to learn language of a land we visit. All Kannadigas visiting dutch speaking countries, English speaking countries follow the same approach. They call up some natives and ask them to make time and teach them their language. All native people in those countries happily accept the offer. Language coaching classes, books are all myths! So, you are on the right track in answering - "why you haven't learnt Kannada still" 👏

I am also staying in Bengaluru. It's been one year only and people have asked me several times too "Why haven't I learnt kannada?" And whenever I approach my friends to teach me kannada they think it's awkward or usual. Also, somehow I am quite confused why some people over here have such resentment with Hindi but not with English. They are okay when I am communicating with them in English but they won't answer me back properly if I start to use Hindi and that's not because they don't know Hindi, they know it equally well as English. They understand everything but still they won't reply and on top of that they'll start treating you badly if they find out that you are a Hindi speaker. I have never expected them to speak to me in Hindi though but I did expected them to be little welcoming towards other language speaker. At least to the extent, they welcome English speaker. But I didn't find this city welcoming at all till now but the good thing is that people usually mind their own business so it's not that hard to manage all this. And ofcourse weather 😂
