Episode 5 brings, April fools, facelifts and an interview with Oliver Millar from PureDrive Energy AKA Duracell Energy.
It's been a busy couple of weeks, in this episode I discuss April fools day and what stunts some of the manufacturers pulled this year, causing laughs and some controversy! From dog-designed cars to made-up models, the 1st of April was busy, but was it foolish?
Facelifts have been a plenty too with Renault refreshing the Captur, Hyundai making over the Tucson and Suzuki spicing up the Vitara? Also I cover the Ford Explorer EV which I checked out last week, which is now available to order too.
Thanks again everyone for your comments, I really appreciate it! Keep an eye out for more episodes, I plan to release these fortnightly, re-capping the news in the automotive industry.

Loved the Duracell segment. Never heard of it before so quite exciting. I’m not a fan of the Juke though, it looks like someone’s sat on it. Much prefer the Captur. The new Captur reminds me of the Mokka but not an angular. The front grill makes it recognisable compare to the other Renault face lifts. Look forwards to your next update.

Thanks Russell, each to their own I suppose as I love the Juke but not a big fan of the Captur facelift! Yes it was interesting talking to Oliver about the PureDrive / Duracell Energy company and products 👍🏻

Excellent Sam - I really love these podcasts and loads of new facelifts there too I’d not heard about. The interview was interesting as well - sounds logical to me that everything related to renewable home energy should use one app, plus as you say Duracell are well regarded in the battery field. I know exactly what you mean about the hatred towards each other with EV vs ICE vehicles. I bought a second hand Ioniq last year and also have a MK4 Diesel Scenic and they are both brilliant but for different reasons. The Ioniq is nippy, efficient, so easy to drive and genuinely costs buttons to run. The Scenic is hugely comfortable, doubles as a mini van for toting stuff, and eats long distances for breakfast. For most of my driving I use the EV as it’s way cheaper and I use the Diesel if I need to go anywhere really far or move loads of stuff. Could I live just with just the EV or the diesel - definitely but the two compliment each other perfectly. Although if I were forced to pick I’d choose the EV as it’s just so much cheaper for me to run on a daily basis. That Peugeot looks like a bargain too - the new & used car deals is a great feature I’m pleased you’ve incorporated it. BTW an acquaintance of mine bought an eNy1 last month - after you mentioned the discount in the podcast I mentioned it to someone I know who was looking for a new car. They ended up going with it as it was such a bargain 😊 I’ve not seen them since but I’m sure they bought it from Cox as it was the best deal around. So thank you for telling us about it👏🏻👏🏻

Oh and I can’t wait to see the Up! content!! Especially if you’re going to do some fault fixing and improvement videos. I absolutely love tinkering with the car so that sort of thing will be right up my street 😁👌🏼

Thanks Richard, I’m glad you continue to enjoy the episodes! You’ve got a good insight having both an EV and a diesel vehicle! I’m sure you’ll be keen to know more about the electric Scenic E-Tech, I plan to review it fully soon 🤞🏻. The Ioniq is a great relatively affordable option too. Yes I was so impressed when I saw that Peugeot, what a bargain! That’s great to hear, yes the limited e:Ny1 mega offer was a big hit and definitely worth while for those who swap their car every couple of years or just wanted an easy way into a new EV. I’m looking forwards to filming the Up! stuff too, just something a bit different on the channel 😄 I will do some cautious tinkering, I’m no mechanic🧑🏼‍🔧but I can do the odd thing!

@@Carcode Honestly Sam you’ll get the Up! sorted for you and your mum in no time 🙂 I was exactly the same - so cautious to begin with, but over time you’ll really surprise yourself with what you can do. Don’t get me wrong there’s things I would never attempt (I’d probably burn something down 😅) but the satisfaction and pride you get from fixing/servicing/repairing your car by yourself is so special. Especially when you realise how easy some of it is and that you’ve fixed it and (hopefully!) it doesn’t break again 🤭 Granted with a new car there’s very little you can do because of warranties and residuals etc etc but if the Up is a little older than your golf it’ll be a perfect tinkering car for you to learn on. I never saw myself doing such things but it’s honestly great fun for us car geeks 😌 Also how lovely is buying a car for your mum too!! I bet she’s so happy and will really appreciate it. Plus it’ll be great content so it’s a win win for you both 👏🏻👍🏻 Yes definitely looking forward to your Scenic E-Tech review. Since the lease on my S90 ended I’ve not replaced it yet. I bought the Ioniq last year as it was so cheap - my plan was to see if an EV would work for me then lease something newer - but it’s been such a great car I’m now thinking of keeping it for another year or two… but knowing me that could change at any time 😂

Hello Sam, another interesting update thank you. I think the same about the new Captur....it's too generic and has lost its uniqueness. The Peugeot E-2008 looks much better. Although I'm a long term Hyundai driver I really don't like the new Kona. Its just weird looking, especially at the back (and the lights are too low). I saw the Harlequin ID3 ad somewhere but I didn't twig on it was an April fool! Doh! as Homer Simpson would say 😆😆😆

I totally agree Andrew - I thought the new Kona looked ok in pictures but when I saw one on the road I changed my mind 😂 there’s just something so odd about the rear styling in particular I’m not sure I could live with it

@@RickyG84 Sadly Ricky I don't think I could live with it either and yet, for me, it is the perfect size of car. It's only when I saw a few on the road that highlighted how awkward the design is, which doesn't come across in photos. And its no longer a "reasonably priced" new car these days. 😒

Yes I agree, the E-2008/2008 is a much more attractive car! Yes the Kona has an odd design and I certainly prefer their ground-up EVs like the Ioniq 5 & 6. You weren’t the only one to fall for the Harlequin, thanks for watching Andrew! 😄
