Best player I've seen live at Old Trafford. Beautiful to watch him control the game and spray passes about the pitch.

You should react to Wayne Rooney a fighter. The definition of playing for the badge always fighting for the club logo he had on his shirt. He grew up almost fighting everywhere he went to, during his documentary he saidthat he once came home with a broken jaw at 12/13 years old.

I'm a Liverpool fan, I hate Man United, but I cant hate on Scholes he was brilliant, I'd take Gerrard over him though (and I am sure every United fan would take Scholes over Stevie ,and this is the way it should be lmao)

Ronaldo tells a story, when he first came to Man Utd he was doing all his skills in training showing off…then scholes come along and hit the ball in a straight line 70yards and hit a tree trunk, ronaldo by his own emission was there all day long trying to hit the tree trunk. They called scholes sat nav, the man could of found my dad with a pass and I haven’t seen that man since I was 6months old 1.scholes 2.Zidane 3.Gerrard 4.iniesta 5. @@ragnarok283 not same position, maradona was more of a forward and attacking midfielder, even tho zidane also was more of an attacking player. he was like younger messi, defended when he got the chance to take the ball and often won the ball, but that maybe happened like 1 or 2 times a game.

Him and Gerrard definitely both the best midfielders ever to play in the prem I feel if Gerrard played with him on untied they both would've dominated every game and been one of the most iconic duo midfielders along side Iniesta and Xavi

Ok, ok here me out guys... I’m an Arsenal fan and so I have zero reasons to say this but Paul Scholes was the best midfielder of his generation. Better than iniesta better than Zidane, Kaka, Seedorf, Gerrard, Lampard, Viera etc. Guys Man Utd are like the patriots dynasty and there dominance was in large part down to this man. Guys this game is about control and this guy could make you feel your team was drowning with his tempo, by the end of the game you where trapped in your half unable to escape just defending like crazy and he was the reason. SO UNDERRATED trust me I saw all of them play because this was generation and bias says I should have a negative agenda, he’s the best midfielder of his generation.

The first player I ever fell in love with in this beautiful game of ours. I must have been 4/5 years old when I'd rock into my older brothers room and ask whether the ginger lad was playing, I'd only watch him.

I think scholes is underated because he played for a dominant team in manchester united that the spotlight usually went to players like ronaldo and rooney but they felt the difference when he retired. Also international games with england they never utilized him right.

Ay I got too many midfielders I like to pick top 5 but ima say Zidane and Scholes were the cream of the crop for me. Zidane had a style and flair to his game which was easy on the eyes and Scholes was a master passer that could play as a AM (Attacking Midfield), defend a little but his main game was to control the tempo of the game and he did that shit to perfection. One of the greatest no doubt.

Wow! Scholes reaction. Im surprised and happy. Love it!! Nobody outside of Liverpool thinks they are comparable.. Scholes won 11 league titles, 5 domestic cups and 2 Champions League in 20 years career. Gerrard 1 Champions League and 5 domestic cups in 18 years.

My top 5: 1- zidane 2- schools 3- xavi 4- modric 5- Pirlo Ps: Zidane was so out of this world all the legendary 4 players listed below him looked up to him and were in awe of his playing style, KZread highlights won’t do him justice. You need to watch a full match to see him pulling all the strings, setting the tempo and controlling every aspect of the game. That goes for the other 4 as well especially Paul Schools.

Well.... If you want to look into this generation, Portugal actually had 2 very interesting players who kind of paved the way for Cristiano Ronaldo. You can look at Rui Costa who was a great offensive midfielder with amazing passing skills. Played for AC Milan and won Champions League being their N10. You can look at Luis Figo who was a winger or an attacking midfielder with great dribbling and crossing skills. Now Figo played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid :) And he managed to captain both teams which is quite amazing. He also won World Best Player award once in the same generation as Zidane ;) Complete Midfielder ever? Look no further: German Lothar Matthaus The German Panzer Tank :)

Dude tf is this list, with all due respect, the hell is Fabregas doing in an all time best midfielders list, same goes for Riquelme, and where are the likes of Xavi and Iniesta

Top 5 is difficult to rank due to different roles of players on the midfield, but overall greatness I would go for (in no particular order): Zidane, Iniesta, Gerrard, Matthaus/Scholes and Xavi. However, there are still many many players that are almost on their level, like Lampard, Pirlo, Kante, Vieira, KdB, Seedorf etc.

Midfielders are so hard to rank, but ill say this; between 2004 and 2012 Manchester United won absolutely everything there is to win, they had Tevez, Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic, VDS, Evra. Among all those, Paul Scholes was the most important player in that team.

So hard to rank midfielders, so many different qualities. Some are more elegant but lack physicality, some are hardworking, strong, great vision. But if I think of great midfielders, I firstly think of, vision, passing, and ability to control the game -like they set the pace. And then scoring loads of goals is a bonus. I Can't rank from 1 to 5 its impossible for me but here are 10 in random order: Iniesta, Lampard, Scholes, xavi, Zidane, Gerrard, Modric, De Bruyne, Pirlo, Guti. Busquets is definitely in the "most underrated" bracket. Gets looked past to often but Xavi & Iniesta wouldn't have been half as successful as they were without Busquets behind them ! Maybe when he retires he'll get the respect he deserves, who knows. Rodri suffers from the same issue at City these day. Absolute class footballers, definitely.
