I think it went like "... But the heart is not ment to rule. In other words, your father was a weak man." Either way, you can definitely see how that effected Paul, especially by the end of the duel. He never outright denies what Shaddam said and it becomes evident when his first response to the Landsraad rejecting his ascension is an immediate act of war instead of diplomacy which was one of Leto's notable traits as a leader.

@@henrycase3788 yeah, you’re right I half remembered the line. Regardless, Shaddam’s contempt for empathy stuck with me. Dunno about you guys but that struck me as very, very realistic. He reminded me, weirdly, of guys like Kissinger.

I don't think he was talking to paul, he was talking to himself. He loved leo like a son, but he got stuck in a mindset where ruling with the heart was wrong, and that he had to be more ruthless, moreso so he could bring himself to betray leo. And then he dives deeper into this mindset and justifies his betrayl against leo by thinking leo was wrong/weak because he didn't follow that mindset. In short: he ruled with the heart, but he convinced himself that ruthlesness was the way forward, and those who were not deserved to be betrayed.

I find it uncommon for Hans Zimmer to make use of dark choirs, this is definitely a standout in the soundtrack and went straight into my Epic Dark Choral playlist.

​@@dha117val If the whole scene was made with VFX/CGI, they moved a virtual camera across the scene and recorded it, so like recording from the front of a airplane moving forward. In post, they add the recording onto the Emperor's ship, and create a circular distortion/fish eye effect. They also could have recorded real footage of the desert and placed it onto the ship, but I think the first one is easier.

I thought it was a cool effect too, a distortion of Arrakis through the greed of the Padishah Emperor

That low "bom boommmm" motif, 41 seconds in. We first hear its kind in the "herald of the change" track from Part One, when the Imperium ship lands on Caladan. Here, it's back in a much more menacing, much less "magnanimous" tone.

Truly fits the majestic aura and fragile might of the great house Corinno's last emperor.

This stands out from the other parts of the soundtrack, because it sounds more classical and clashes with the strangeness of the rest. It echoes the power of the emperor but tells you that it is no more and subtly whispers about his fall.

Praying to all the deities of our beloved fandom every day so it may happen true. After seeing Dune 2 like 3 times, I think that Denny Villeneuve and Hans Zimmer could honor us with an amazing 40k movie/series.

I wish they kept the theatrical version the same as the sound track because I LOVE the way the choir sounds.

Honestly though, I feel if they kept Fenring in the film, Walken could’ve had a character to play off of especially in the finale when he frantically asks Fenring to finish Paul off and is refused. Could’ve made the Emperor so much more desperate to win

The whole court scene felt completely underwhelming. Reading through that part in the book was incredible superimposing Walken talking down on the Baron, but he was just so... underutilized here.

I feel like the idea is Shaddam’s best days are kinda behind him. This Emperor isn’t Palpatine or Thanos, he’s more akin to a character like Hyman Roth in Godfather Part II. A powerful leader at the end of his days grasping on to his last vestiges of power. It worked for me, but that’s just my opinion
