@maazahmed506
21 күн бұрын
Not 10, that would've unnecessarily dragged out the battle sequence but I think 5 additional minutes would've been more than sufficient. LOTR battle scenes are that long because they have stakes. This battle had none because it wasn't even a battle, it was pretty much an assault or ambush on unsuspecting bypassers by an extremely overpowered enemy. Like spontaneous guerilla warfare but with the combat ability Nd fervor of an elite military force. A blitzkrieg if you may. What I wanted them to do was show us Paul's charge on the Emperor's camp with his fundamentalist troops and the morale of Sardaukar breaking/them running away in fear. They should've also allocated a few more minutes to Gurney's attack on Arrakeen and his fight with Rabban (which was underwhelming as hell).
@danis.9326

@@maazahmed506Nah it should’ve been 10 minutes longer
@maazahmed506
18 күн бұрын
@@danis.9326 The battle scene was about 5 minutes long. An additional 10 minutes (20 minutes in total if they were to allocate the same amount of time to Gurney's attack on Arrakeen) of random haphazard knife fights in desert that hardly contribute to the narrative is more suited to the video game medium than cinema. It would've unnecessarily dragged the movie. LOTR got away with long drawn out battle sequences (although they too went on for quite a while and felt exhausting at times) because its narrative was centered around that. Villeneuve might give us longer and more complex battle scenes in Dune Messiah because it contributes to the Holy War narrative (and because casuals like it more) but I wouldn't hold my breath for that considering Dune Messiah is a political thriller for the most part and it glossed over the holy war thanks to the 12 year time jump.
@Adama.1

@@maazahmed506 I mean yeah 100% agreed, most fight scenes in this movie are extremely underwhelming and ilogical anyways. Why ever would the harkonnen fight with swords when they have such overpowered weapons? There are numerous instances in this movie where the harkonnens would have won if they just shot the freemen.
@maazahmed506
17 күн бұрын
@@Adama.1 I wouldn't say underwhelming. The choreography was pretty good, it's just the length of the action/battle sequences in this movie that bother me. I don't know if you've read the books but it's explained better there. Guns are practically non-existent because shields block high velocity projectiles. A weapon called maula pistol that shoots slow poisoned darts to penetrate the shield is widely used by both the Fremen and the armies of the Imperium. Lasguns can't be used against shields because laser interacts with shields to cause a massive nuclear explosion which can kill both the attacker and the defender. Harkonnens were using lasguns on Fremen in the desert because the Fremen don't use shields. Fremen in turn resorted to guerilla warfare tactics like spontaneous shock attacks in numbers to overwhelm Harkonnen forces with superior arsenal.

For those who didn’t notice, Chani uses a Maula Pistol at the beginning of the battle with her crysknife at the same time. Arrakis doesn’t have gunpowder and the technology of traditional guns faded into obscurity with shield warfare. Maula Pistols only have a range of 40 meters and used a spring loaded mechanism, they are best used at close range. Much like an airsoft gun, instead of shooting BB’s it’s poison darts. These poison darts can slow down and penetrate shields if not deflected. Wearing armor plus a shield would protect against darts and only a sword or knife could kill the user by striking within the gaps of the armor. Let’s say a perfect piece of armor with not faults was designed in which no blade could pierce it with a shield, the wearer could be trapped or confined. If a bomb were able to be on the armor under the shield, it could destroy the wearer just like the bombs used to destroy the Atreides transport ships during the battle of Arakeen. Even the best defense in the Dune universe isn’t perfect, it’s the ultimate game of rock paper scissors with the addition of an atomic explosion if a shield and lasgun made contact.

@maazahmed506

@@maazahmed506Nah it should’ve been 10 minutes longer
@maazahmed506

@maazahmed506

I’m glad I didn’t. It’s absolutely boring.

As im watching this scene again, I wonder how and why the emperor and his forces have their base build ON the sand, and didnt get attacked by wurms before this war scene even broke out?

Its explained in the books and briefly but not directly in Dune part 1 that the shields that surround the cities and the temporary outpost of the emperor do in fact, keep the worms away from a safe distance.

@@joshuateoh8966 thanks for replying c:, can i take it then that the bombs thrown at them in the war, disrupt the shields to make them accessible?

@@oribenezuko2431 I would say so, yes. The sandstorm they were having before the fight was already weakening their shields, so all that nuclear blast debri did the last number on them

The city (Arrakeen) and staging ground are surrounded by a mountain range (Aka shield wall), it protects the area from worms, that is until Paul blows a hole in it with nukes.

Fedyakin the best fremen fighters and have ALOT of influence in fremen society

Fedaykin are originally the guerrilla fighters of Fremen but they later evolved into Paul's personal guard and death commandos. They will have an important role during Muad'Dib's Jihad in Dune Messiah.
What about the massive laser that we saw in first movie. Can't it cut the woms?

While I’ll will say I love this movie and these scenes are amazing to watch, they really did strip some of the logic out of these scenes to speed it up a lot more. Sardaukar barely put up a fight, Fremen yes have learned the weirding way and that makes them op at this point, but ffs Sardaukar should have been more scary like in the first movie. Second how tf do the fremen and chani manage to hide in the sand right in front of the base like that? Didn’t a literal f ing nuke go off? Also just a nickpick, does Arrakeen look really different from the first movie? That said 100/10

They got nuked then attacked by a swarm of Giant Warms that can eat through metal, they didnt really have a chance no matter how badass they were. They were in an impossible situation.

by this point the fremen have been trained by paul to fight using bene gesserit technique. they are the strongest fighters in the empire now, so there’s no way the waning sardakaur could do anything especially with how disadvantaged they were.
