Overrated, boring with a convoluted and confusing as hell plot, full of characters I couldn't care less about, much like part one (I saw it in the cinema the other day). Literally, the only saving grace about Dune part 1 and 2 is the cinematography, but good cinematography alone does not make a film a 'masterpiece'-Good direction, writing, cinematography with memorable characters and quotable lines is what makes a film truly great. I'm not really a fan of Sci-Fi in general anyway but I'll say that Avatar and Avatar: The way of Water is far superior to this nonsensical rubbish. My favourite film and TV series recommendations: The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Banshee, Rome, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Beef, Blue Eye Samurai, Tokyo Vice, The Iron Claw, The Lighthouse, Beau is Afraid, The Northman, Whiplash etc. A24 and HBO are the only ones I trust to consistently put out quality content these days. Nice one, good review here! 👍🏽

Very overrated. Beautiful yes and the sound design was incredible but it felt like i was watching a power point presentation it was so badly edited. One minute he's doing an SAS selection style survival mission being warned of centipedes and trapdoor spiders the next he's cooing over his girlfriend while she mumbles something about windmills then the very next scene hes attacking a harvester command and conquer style. Then his pregnant mother gets an ultimatum under threat of execution to become a reverend mother of a deeply religious culture by drinking poison (did i say she was pregnant) yet five minutes ago they were hissing and scorning her. She then departs to take a 1000 mile journey south on a sand worm through viscious storms yet later in the film Paul gets there in like five minutes somewhow and chani turns up separately flying an ornithopter....like where the hell did she get that from? let alone know how to fly it. it was just sloppy. Oh and the great sadistic bad guys role ended as fast as it started and his brother was shown twice as being as roided up coward.

Dune was good, but it wasn't my Dune. I have a lot of issues with the films, but I enjoyed them overall, and it was nice seeing a book adapted into a film by a team who actually like the source material. There were only two alterations from the book that moved beyond "I dislike this change, but understand the reasoning behind it" to "This is dogshit", and they were both in the first part. Part 1: 7.5/10 Part 2: 8.5/10 Will be buying the box set.

If you turn off your brain and dont think aboth the plot is a 10/10 but if you understand the movie and its several plot holes and inconsistences the movie is a 6/10 and the moral is Royal Blood people know the future better then you and are literal better/stronger then you, and only "important/Rich" people can lead and rule.

Overrated. I mean, I enjoyed it and I think it is decent, but "masterpiece" is a big word. The pacing was a mess and there were lowkey out of context incoherence that non readers would never get, like the artillery scene ("artillery, genius" - Baron Kingpinhonnen). Not to mention the movie spends 90 minutes into long shots and contemplation and then accelerates without warning. And they failed completely at connecting the audience to Chani and with a reason, her only relevance in the books is to be the mother of Leto II so why hype her so much? Does Zendaya weights that much in the industry?

  • @CopaExMachina

For all the epic action setpieces, the knife fights are very weak and anticlimactic. Especially since Feyd has a tiny role, his finale needed to be much bigger. Also Zendayas character was unnecessary in this adaptation. They could have cut her out of the movie and nothing would change.

Ground-breaking special effects, some other stuff, hiring activists instead of actors, ground-breaking special effects, noise called music, ground-breaking special effects, girls that look like boys and boys that look like girls, ground-breaking special effects, the color grey... just to name a few. I liked Dune pt 1 and pt 2, but it isn't Frank Herbert's Dune. They are good movies despite a lot of issues I have. The casting was so far off, they might as well have hired me for the role of Chani. But I did think Timbo's Paul was given more dynamic to play with. Some of the secondary characters had their chance to shine. I didn't find myself nearly as bored as the first Dune. Dune 2 is good, teetering on just being fair. Could be all that "artsy" window dressing doing the talking for me though lol. Thanks for the comment.

I can’t take anyone seriously especially with Timothee as the protagonist and Javier screaming Lisa Al Gaib every other scene in the 3rd act. I can already see the parodies and memes of Stilgar as he drools all over Paul. I loved the visuals and some of the fight choreography was outstanding but like you said in your review the pacing was all over the place, the character development was lacking and the romance didn’t land. The pacing seemed so off-putting to me and so much of the dialogue was expository in nature as you mentioned. I doubt a reading of the screenplay of the film would be so interesting on its own without the spectacular visuals to do so much of the heavy-lifting. I did find the final third of the film (after Feyd becomes ruler of Arrakis and Paul drinks the Water of Life) far more engaging and delivering on some emotional beats with some payoffs (although weaker than I think they could have been) for all the setup. Yet I wish these events occurred sooner in the film (ex: introduce Feyd a lot sooner, not halfway into the film) since I think it's only then that the film really kicks off.

All valid points, especially the intro to Feyd being in the middle of the second act. It's weird to introduce a major character at that point.

@@CopaExMachina Much agreed! I also found Zendaya so uninteresting in the film as Chani. My absolute favorite scene was the war council scene when we get to see Paul's prescient transformation, the way Stilgar changes his tone to one of complete reverence as he fully believes Paul is the Lisan al Gaib, and the most subtle and emotional impact we see just through a couple brief shots of Gurney's facial expression as Paul dons his father's signet ring. That was such a emotionally powerful moment. If only we had a few more scenes as moving as this dispersed throughout the film, I wouldn't have such mixed reactions towards it. Yet there was also a glaring weak point for me that almost took me out of that scene, and that was the most exaggerated scowl and furrowed brows on Zendaya's face. There was nothing I found of the way she spoke her lines and her body language that communicated anything nuanced in the slightest compared to the likes of Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, and even Timothee Chalamet. I'm not sure how much we can blame Zendaya for this since I also find it such an odd writing decision to radically change Chani's character to be Paul's ultimate naysayer while still being his ultimate lover and supporter (in another way). At least that's a very ambitious change to the original story. Still, I'm at least reasonably sure that casting Zendaya for a character so radically changed in order to be governed by such extreme internal conflicts wasn't the wisest move. I have to question the changes to the writing even before that, but then the casting choice becomes especially questionable after.

So space jesus said he does not want to be jesus, but he never said to those people aboth how it was all a plan for making them belive he is jesus, and he just accepts it, then everyone follows him with no issues or infight over their religion been lead by a foreing, then only He and His Mother that have "Royal Blood" can see the future if they drink the worm juice, now both of them hold the 2 most powerful positions in freeman society and they accept to leave their home and planet to ride in ships to attack some randoms they dont know/care.
