    Dumb as lead in gas sounds in hindsight, few in 1913 would ever have dreamed that one of the heaviest things they knew of could be in air and in harmful quantities. It took a lot of lobbying and uproar over WWII farming practices, coal smoke, general pollution in the environment before anyone ever even thought to look really at pollutants in air much. It did do what it was supposed to, and very well. Made engines run better and lessened wear on engine parts in addition. Once it was phased out, most new cars knocked. I'm talking in the 1970s here. People took to burning high octane gas to try to eliminate it. Mechanics joking called it a "money saving knock" because those cars were designed to burn lower octane fuel and spending extra money on high octane was a waste, so let it knock, you're saving money, thus a "money saving knock."

    Great channel & content... But...Ireland had no part in deciding to attack the Ottoman's, or anyone else for that matter. We had limited options due to the British occupation of Ireland & as a result, to simply survive, many Irishmen were forced to join the British Army...

    I can't know for sure, but the part where the countries were divided up improperly and it caused wars. I believe that there are people who will never be satisfied, no matter what was decided. People can be greedy.

    I think they were divided like that on purpose. If the area stays in conflict it wouldn't become prosperous and a threat in the near future.

  • @markdicristofaro904

    @markdicristofaro904

    6 ай бұрын

    @olwynskye417 , well, your theory makes sense. But, if you look at all of human history? People are greedy, never satisfied, arrogant, and believing that they are due more than others. Russia is not a third-world country, but they are attacking a third-world country now. Causing the death of pregnant women and their unborn children. For what? Greed, arrogance, maybe insanity thrown in for good measure. I believe it is a disease passed on by Adam and Eve. Eve was given everything. But she wanted to be a god. Adam wanted to keep his wife, knowing that God gave him another one woman, He could do it again. They were selfish, greedy, and arrogant. I am, there for, I exist, I should be satisfied. There are people who don't have life. I have more than they have. I should be satisfied. But Adam and Eve's insanity was passed on to their offspring. The only way to fight it is on a personal level by seeing what happened in the Bible. What did Jesus, Moses, Daniel, and many others do or didn't do. The further away from Jehovah God that the human race gets? The worst it gets. We are doing it to ourselves because we won't listen to Jehovah God.

    The Athenian Expedition in 414 BC against Syracuse with hardly any cavalry was a blunder. Also, one of three generals in charge, named Nicias, thought the expedition was a bad idea in the first place. Why would you appoint a general to run an invasion who had voted against it? The Athenians would probably have won if they had had more cavalry. If Athens had conquered Syracuse, they would have conquered the rest of Sicily, and then they would probably have conquered Rome and Carthage since they were not as powerful then as they were to become. In short, there would have been no Roman empire. The lack of cavalry was really a problem since Napoleon had trouble winning battles after he came back from Russia (another blunder). Napoleon had lost a large number of horses during the Russian campaign, and despite his genius on the battlefield, this lack of cavalry prevented his victories from being decisive. Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty was counterproductive.

    When you call an event a mistake AND JUDGE IT, you practice the science of hindsight. That is bad history. Not impressed. Gallipoli as a campaign was not a mistake. The error was in the appointment of the overall commander, who it seems was indecisive. Much the same happened in WW2

    The British did a great thing helping the Jews in the aftermath of the Holocaust. There are a lot of uneducated Muslims who don't realize that Judaism is much older than Islam and that Jews were living in the Palestine area many centuries before Islam was founded. Muslim countries' land mass is currently over 99.9% larger than Israel. Yet most of those Muslims countries still want to massacre all the Jews and take what little land they have away.
