Duke's Coach K Checks In For the Season Finale of The Steam Room

Спорт

It’s a LEGENDARY season finale in the Steam Room with Duke MBB coach Mike Krzyzewski. The Hall of Famer joins Charles and Ernie to look forward to his retirement and back at late-nights with the ’92 Dream Team. This episode is full of stories as Charles recounts the time he was afraid to see Coach K at practice, why Michael Jordan never slept and more. A surprise guest joins to discuss the 2021 Black Masters, and Steve Gleason blows EJ & Chuck away with an inspiring message on the answering machine.

Coach K. Is such an old school throwback. And old souls like Barkley and Ernie are so good for the soul of basketball and men in this country. Maybe I'm 45 and out of touch, but I think we need men like this more than ever in this country who aren't P.C., don't obsess about politics, or the media, or race divisions, but just try to make better men. I wish Charles would work in the White House in some capacity as a voice for the people.

    (1) The 1992 team literally was meant to be composed of the best NBA players at the time per position. Bird was no longer 100% healthy and Christian Laettner was the rookie pro chosen but aside from that, the Dream Team players were all just about in their primes. This year's squad isn't even as good as the 2008 or even 2012 team. A bunch of players are sitting out bc they want to prevent further injury and rest instead. Another roster factor is that there is no size on the team. Draymond and Kevin Love act as Centers but they're really PFs. (2) Basketball has grown as a sport internationally since 1992. Players like Jokic, Embiid, Donkic, and Giannis are all international players and Top 10 Players in the league today. During the Dream Team days, only Hakeem was an international Top 10 NBA Player. Jordan and the Dream Team helped open up the sport of basketball for the world. (3) A lot of this team's struggles has to do w/ the fact that the U.S. team only had a couple of days of practice compared to a couple of weeks like they usually do.

That is a legacy you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, but it is what it is and certainly his. The thing I will personally remember him for is that he talks through his nose, in addition to losing the 1994 NCAA Championship game to my favorite team, The University of Arkansas.
