Always thought Johnny Dawkins would come back to take over when K retired. I like how Duke and UNC keep things in house. Tradition hasn't completely died yet.

I think Dawkins and Tommy A were both considered if I read up correctly but I think age may have been an influence, they're both 50 I believe and they may have wanted who they were getting guaranteed longevity with

lol, i would like to see Coach K high.....however, I've read that when he gets into his wine collection, he gets pretty rowdy....one of his daughters said after having a few glasses of wine, he went into the kitchen got a big serving spoon and came out and had it as a microphone and was singing the lead of Gladys Knight and the Pips song....I would pay good money to see that!

The victim went kicking and screaming into the grave, but die underdog Rhode Island did Thursday night, 73-72 to second-seeded Duke in an East Regional semifinal at the Meadowlands Arena. lol. Ok, a reply to this just has to be a little complex because it's a complex issue. I'm as diehard of Duke fan as there is. Became a fan when I was 4 years old and saw Grant Hill catch that alley-oop and from that day it was Duke and nothing else in the world. Did their math and science programs throughout grade school every single summer. Somehow got lucky in the application lottery and studied there for both undergrad and grad - if I didn't get in I wouldn't have gone to college. So I LOVE Laettner and as far as I'm concerned he is permanently on the Mt. Rushmore of all-time college GOATs... But he was hated for A LOT more than just winning. Boy oh boy the winning made it intensified beyond belief, but there was so much more. Back in those days when things weren't as PC he would straight up antagonize others' fans, he stomped on opposing players chests when they fell down, and in the days when the racial back-and-forth wasn't as outlawed, he would hurl some of that rhetoric at players, too. I don't think he is a racist - it really was the 'normal' way people talked (go watch some Saturday morning cartoons from the 80's and 90's... the racism, misogyny, anti-LGBT, etc. stuff was out of control even on kids' shows, haha). But I digress. The point is he wasn't just this 'gosh darn good ball player that just wins too damn much." Being THE prominent male bball star at THE prominent college program... and a white guy in a black sport during a racially charged time. His backstory was perfect for the hatred - privileged family, private schools, driving nice cars in high school, and having all the fame and good looks that have you plastered on magazine covers and tv. I could keep going on but you get the basic idea. You add on the facts that NOT ONLY was he SOOOOO fucking good and won SOOOOO fucking much, he seemed to relish in that hatred and loved every drop of it. It would actually make him enthralled and often play even better so yeah... I'm surprised there weren't more actual incidents with him... So many elements in one dense mixture, and you have launched the hatred atom bomb.

I like how Coach K said that about Christian and let it lay as if that record was solely Christian's doing....we all know Coach K had a helluva lot to do with that 21-2. But, he gives credit where credit is due and he has such a love for his players and it does run deep! Congrats on a long and successful career coach....You deserve a 6th championship...I write this on Sat game day vs. UNC. If Duke wins and I hope they do, I feel the momentum is theirs and they will get the title!
