The comedy speech, like many other speeches in the show, was a mixture between Duckman's actual selfish motivations and a core of a good message. It wasn't that he was saying that dark humor was the only good one, but more like claiming that playing it safe with humor and trying to ONLY have safe humor was detrimental to its mind-expanding potential. And though you did mention the emotional beats, they really need to be stressed as one of the show's strong points. The loudmouth and abrasive ridiculous duck-person was always grounded by that very simple and gut-wrenching fact that his wife had died, and that he truly felt that she was the only person in the entire world who understood him. Not even Duckman's own parents loved him. Also a second mention to Cornfed, who plays a cliche role but manages to stand out with his Joe Friday voice and endless list of skills and knowledge. And yet the second in command out of a very simple and honest friendship for a man he appreciates and knows that needs him. It's a wonderful show.

Yeah, I screwed up in editing. There was a part where I was going to edit in a scene where I say something like like "Considering, this is also a message about how much raunchier the show is compared to family sitcoms" and what I said about Duckman being a sympathetic or something like that. Hard to explain. But I moved it around to talk about that part later when I'm talking about his tragic past. So now the video is a little disjointed in retrospect.

Actually the "likability" formula is in the "wholesome" things, when someone doesn't find something that certain kind of people finds "wholesome" then that person or gets backlashed or is called an edgy bitch. Usually the likability formula is in people like the Tumblr users whose wants everything to be cute, diverse, inclusive, and good persons.

i know i am 5 years late but i think nowadays we can safely say "likability" formula is astro-turf on what a network wants people to think is popular, ergo people hop onto a bandwagon and think they just joined a large group of others that have great taste for a broadly appealing show.

She and Jason are good close friends and both studied at "The Comedy Club" in NYC and joined the Groundings in the mid 80s. This show is very underrated. If you enjoy the dark humor of Adult Swim shows today, you'll really enjoy Duckman. It doesn't hit the same chords considering it was made 20 years ago, but it's very surreal dark humor that works. It also has a ridiculous list of guest voices, from the people you would expect like Tara Strong to a lot of people you may recognize from the Simpsons (including Dan Castellaneta as a brief Homer cameo) to random celebrities like Ice-T and Coolio. I jumped into this show because I was watching Seinfeld and was interested that Jason Alexander was in a role that wasn't George, but I soon found that I had a discovered a visually disgusting yet very intriguing little gem. You really feel for Duckman. Despite how repulsive he is, when the world is against him you really feel sympathy for the poor guy despite the fact he had it coming. This show does a great job of making the characters fleshed out. There's a brief scare when you think something may happen to Cornfed and even though he's literally a perfect creation who has basically acted as a robot the whole show, he shows emotion and it's enough to make you cry. If you're curious about the show, you can watch the whole thing on KZread through two or three different channels. The first season is not the best, but thankfully it's the shortest. As the show goes on it just keeps getting better and better.

Good point about the two different kinds of (what's called) "political correctness". Sometimes it means sanitising content so as to never challenge anybody, but other times it's just something assholes use as a crutch to complain about not being able to say openly bigoted nonsense anymore. Donald Trump is one of the worst examples of the latter, thinking he can get away with saying any kind of racist or sexist shit he wants as long as he dismisses any criticism of his words as "political correctness".

Plus, the guy is pro-LGBT and has company policy to be tolerant of it, and accepting And supports women's healthcare. Both these points were made in the 80's (When gay bashing was cool) and as late as when he ran against Ted Cruz, who was furious that Trump had such "Unconservative opinions" while he'd hold the bible high, set it down, and lie lie lie. Failing to see how he's said sexist stuff outside berating Megyn Kelly (Which liberals do all the time, calling her a "Fox blonde white woman bimbo") and Rosie O'Donnel (Who he berated for criticizing him for putting a woman through rehab and giving her a job afterwards. Rosie's son went on to become a drug addict and OD'd, he could have used a Donald in his life.) Far from every woman.

I explained it to him and he unbanned it as long as my youngest brother didn't get a hold of it. My dad likes horror so that certainly helped keep it from being banned

PC extremists. Just think about it. They keep forcing people to "not offend others" to the point in which you get a fine for even muttering swear word, that they might as well be no different as any other extremists. I think the only difference is that they're not as easy to identify as many other extremists. (For more on that, see Wisecrack's video on South Park.)

FLCL is an anime created shortly after the end of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. because Evangelion was an anime that had a lot of darker themes, the entire animation crew behind the show was emotionally wiped out, so they opted to make a more lighthearted and fun show. Thus, they created FLCL, which is pronounced "Fooly Cooly" (or "Furi Kuri" in Japan.) it's only six episodes of an anime, but it's quite memorable, due to its great soundtrack, interesting characters, nostalgic vibe and overall insanity.

I'm going to guess (could be wrong) that you didn't grow up in the late 80s or early 90s. I can get how now you would see the Simpsons as milk toast but back in the early 90s the Simpsons was controversial. Bart saying damn and hell was a big deal cause kids on tv didn't talk like that and cartoons sure as shit never said that. Also Homer while show to be a caring husband and father was also show to be a drunk that strangled his son, show me a tv show in the early 90s on network TV where child abuse was shown as the joke. It's also not that they were the most edgy show on tv (there was far edgier on pay cable) it was that they where on betwork TV. It's the same reason that Married With Children got so much ire. It's not that it was so offensive it was that it was on network TV where anyone can see if not on a pay cable channel. Let's not forget then President Bush Sr. was quoted as saying "America would he a better place if we tried to he more like the Walton's and less like the Simpsons."

Most kids ignored The Simpsons where I come from, as it aired in English with subtitles, like most shows aimed at adults does. But my mother managed to shield me from it until I was 11, and when I for the first time fully watched an episode... it was the best thing ever. Duckman, however, never aired over here. But they released season 1+2 on DVD in 2007 (I think?), which I got out of curiosity.... And it was the best 5$ I've ever spent

I grew up watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Happy Tree Friends. Out of all of those shows, The Simpsons was the most tame. I understand that it was a different time and all But, it was still really, really tame. If anything, you can learn from them. It might have even been beneficial for kids to watch. Mostly because it wasn't all sparkles and rainbows. That's just my opinion, though. PS: I'm still a sucker for ATHF. It might have screwed me up even more, but, ah, it was a way to bond with my dad. My mom was gone during the day And my dad was gone at night Or I didn't see any of them. Growing up, my parents weren't around me much. So, I'd wait until late at night to be with them. Since I've always been a cartoon nerd, they'd switch on Cartoon Network. Since it was always so late, it had switched to adult swim. Although I didn't understand the humor, it was always nice to be around my parents. Shit, I got sentimental- sorry-

Dude, ATHF scarred me with how gross it was, but God dammit, I loved the humor too much. It was a guilty pleasure to watch as a kid and an immense treat to watch as an adult, finally understanding all of the jokes, and appreciating how funny it really was. As for parental bonding, I have Buffy and Charmed with my mother to thank for that. My dad only watches sports. Not a lot of people I know watch cartoons, but those select few are amazing people.

I was wondering about that. It's clearly him, but I'm wondering if this is at all related to the show. USA seems to be a network that's not so kid-friendly. Maybe it's a case similar to Hey Arnold were the characters of Doug and Porkchop just existed before anything resembling a show for them came about and then the show was completely different than anything you'd expect.
