At 50 years old, my best running is waaaay behind me. PR High school 4:19 1600M, college 3:43 1500M. I am still disappointed looking back that I never broke the 4 minute mile. Also I could never imagine running sub 4 without anyone to push me and block the wind. Great job Oregon A team!

@@diskoeric2248 I don't know if training and diet is much better, or these carbon fiber plates in the shoes are helping a lot, but times have gotten so much better for prep and college over the past couple years.

If the two mile was a more contended world record then a lot more people would probably have run sub-8. For example, Kenenisa Bekele ran a 8:03 two mile split in his previous 5k world record of 12:37. Yet he’s never actually gone for a good 2-mile time. Barely anyone actually runs 2 miles professionally, and usually those rare pro 2-miler races end up being tactical and slow.

Nah West needed more motivation to run a 3:58 flat, maybe cheerleaders and coaches screaming in his ear like 10x around each oval, THAT would have brought down the WR 😗

So I guess this was posted to stir up interest in the new group of ex-ducks attempting this on the April 21 2023. So I guess they ran a 16:07.83. Looks like only 1 of the runners got under 4 min. on their split.

The first mile was 1.600m only.
