World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen tops the field for the Airthings Masters, the 2nd stage of the Champions Chess Tour. The 12-player event will be played online on chess24 from December 26th to January 3rd and, as the first Major of the tour, features a $200,000 prize fund with $60,000 for 1st place. The winner also qualifies directly to the Grand Final in September 2021.
The tournament starts with a 3-day preliminary stage where the players play each other once before the top 8 go forward to a knockout. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: championschesstour.com

Turns out you certainly can recover from a screwup or two against good players on occasion and it's worthwhile to try.

@@EEEEEEtwothousand In his early videos (like, super old ones, among the first in the channel), he tends to make this mistake where his computer's sound would be loud enough to be caught on the mic, causing an echo in the recording. He usually notices this mid-video and leans down to turn the computer volume down while saying "Sorry about that". This happened surprisingly often and the commenters of his videos at that time joked about how it's pretty much a meme at that point. So, while it does seem that he doesn't make the mistake now (you can clearly hear that his recordings are more than fine), he acknowledges that it's a meme and he's saying "Sorry about that" while pretending to adjust the volume for the sake of it. Might be annoying for some people, but for me it's a nice little callback to who he was before.
