Dual Motor Wired Cruiser (PsychoCycle) Part 2: Initial Testing

We've finished the rough draft of the dual motor Wired Cruiser aka the "PsychoCycle" and do the initial performance tests. During this rive I encounter a few small issues that thankfully are minor and can easily be fixed. Enjoy!

    Was this a 2024 bike? I'm on the fence about which wired bike to get right now. I live in Southern Illinois, and if I purchase the wired cruiser I guess I can pick it up in about 5 days at their warehouse north of Chicago, but if I purchase the wired freedom, it looks like I'll have to wait until the end of the month. I don't know which one to get!

    @@maximumchargeEV I'm 39 years old and I get around just fine, I'm just really impatient. I can't decide whether I want to wait until the end of the month to get the wired freedom, or if I'd rather just go ahead and purchase the wired cruiser and drive up there and get the white one immediately. Because it's the white one that's available now, If I choose to purchase that one anyway. So I've been debating whether the wired freedom is that much better than the wired cruiser or not. Of course I would miss out on the rear suspension, and it seems to me like the frame on the wired cruiser wouldn't be as sturdy as the wired freedom is, but hell, what do I know?! If you don't mind me asking, and I do greatly appreciate your response, if you had $2100 right now, and you've never owned any of these bikes, which one would you purchase with that amount of money? I don't just mean these two bikes (wired freedom &cruiser), but any bike?

    @@jcolt84 I believe you are a patient man! It's worth the wait. Right now the wired freedom is the best all-around option in my opinion, but please note it is a large bike, so if you are under 5'9" you might have trouble with it. The new Ecells bike is coming out that's more cost-effective and so far based on the parts it looks like it will be slightly better than the wired freedom and cost $1895. They gave me a coupon code that saves you guys 100 bucks "max100". I do affiliate marketing for both wired and ecells so that's not me trying to push you one way or the other haha.

    @@maximumchargeEV I trust that you would push me in the right direction! I am 6 ft 1 in tall, so the size of the bike shouldn't be a problem. I just joined the wired freedom owners group on Facebook, and the drama on there is really making me question! Kind of makes you wonder if it's a competing eBike brand trying to plant a seed of negativity. Lol I didn't question anything about the strength of wired freedoms frame until I joined that group. I really like the Rev 1 but 750w isn't a whole lot of power. The aerial rider x-class is an attractive bike at $1700 I must admit, but the wired freedom is just so much more powerful! I think if I had the option to buy the power goat right now, with it's massive seat, I'd buy that in a heartbeat, but it's not supposed to be available until early April. I much appreciate your response to my question, and thanks for all the awesome videos! Keep putting out amazing content, because we all look forward to your videos.

    Wouldn't work well, regen barely gives you any power, and in order to charge, one motor would have to add regenerative resistance. It would be robbing peter to pay paul, and paul wont get the full amount either.

    I checked and because the phase wires come out of the side where the disk brake is, the whole motor would be too far offset to one side. If you figured out a way to customize the axle and have the phase wires come out of the other side, along with machine down the axle itself (so long as it's solid and not hollow) It might be possible but it's a lot of work.

    Got it from a company called "smlro" it's on their site. They make a generic dual motor ebike

  • @EBikeBuilder_
    @EBikeBuilder_6 ай бұрын

    Nice man!! I agree if my upfront goal was to build a high power ebike, i would probably do one high power hub motor, as opposed to dual hubs. That comes with a high initial cost though. The way I look at it is- Dual hubs is an upgrade path to add some power to an existing ebike. Maybe not much top speed, but that additional acceleration totally changes how you can ride. Dual hubs can be quirky / dangerous / not practical, AWD is a double edged sword but can have its situational uses. I just did a ride thru the snowy forest with my dual hubs and I dont think i would have kept traction with just 1 motor. AWD would be great for a hunting bike with some big fat tires and lower the pressure. Your front motor looks really clean with the painted torque arms and hose clamps! If you are disappointed with front wheel traction, try using a different tire, i've found the front motor tends to have crazy tire spin with street tires. It's manageable though you can ease onto the throttle at low speeds to avoid the tire spin. That's crazy how the speedo was misbehaving, I'm not entirely sure why that would be happening. From the looks of the video, your rear motor was reading a low speed of like 6mph first, then you did the top speed run after which the front hub motor speedo started acting wonky too. It almost seems like the speed being displayed on your display is related to the throttle signal somehow? When you were giving it full throttle, it would say 49mph on the screen, then you let off the throttle and the speedo would say 0... thats almost like its displaying the throttle signal as a speed?? It was working at first, that's so weird!!! I think when the front motor shut off at 39:21, that was a maybe an inactivity timeout / auto shut off. It can depend on the display, some of them shut off after a few minutes of no speed signal. Some displays let you configure the auto timeout to x minutes. A few minor issues I am sure you will get that sorted out. Very cool build man it will be hella fun!! Get some chunky tires and go mucking around in the winter thats when the dual hubs truly shine!! It's also fun in the sand at the beach. Nice job man its great to see the build after all this time!! 👍🤟🤙

  • @maximumchargeEV

    @maximumchargeEV

    6 ай бұрын

    Agreed that as an upgrade path it's more cost effective to do the dual hub for sure! It's probably the reason I went this route to begin with. If my rear motor totally broke I would have went the qs205 route. I'll have to keep investigating and tinkering to get the speedometers fully functional. Thanks for all your help again!
