Hard wiring the interconnect is for sure a positive - I ran one of those Pickerings back in the 70's, I think it was the same model, either way, served me well - - very interesting to watch you go through the table, thanks for posting.

I restore about 5 Dual units per month. 604 is a decent table. Not much to do on the 6 series. Im in Calgary. Time Warp Turntables. The stock Dual rca cables are notoriously bad. I solder new ones directly to the terminals under the mute switch. I pop the stylus in the ultrasonic and after its dry put a minute drop of wd40 on the suspension rubber. Sometimes it saves them. Nothing to lose when it's that bad.

You are a master even before i watch this video. I had a Dual 1214 or something, it was terrible, all oily and disgusting. I sold it broken, it was a crap.

I've got one of these I had from new. They are adaptable for 78 rpm as well, and the manual describes how this can be done, I have added a switch so that on the 45 setting I can select either 45 or 78. I also have a spare head shell so I can swap the cartridge for one fitted with a 78 stylus.

I admire your soldering skills. Curious as to why you didn't lube any of the mechanicals?

Ho un Dual 604 dal 1979. Va ancora benissimo. Ho fatto sostituire solo i due RCA con altri dorati di buona qualità.

The motors on these are definitely a nightmare to take apart.

As my JVC QL A5 not working,it stops rotaing after 3 to 5 minutes. One regulator IC in the power section becomes too hot, no idea whatsoever further.I bought one belt driven DUAL 505 ,with step down transformer from 220 volts to 110 volts. When I started playing it,it rotated in the correct direction but within one to two minuts it started rotating in reverse direction. What to do in both the cases. Appreciate your suggestions.

Hey Trevor, just picked up a Dual 604. Turntable doesn’t spin. I checked the voltage output of the transformer 22V, but I’m not getting a voltage reading on the wires coming off the circuit board (orange and blue wires). I’m very much a novice at circuit board repair. I watched your video as you replaced the four capacitors. I was planning ob doing the same, replace the capacitors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Larry

@TimeForTacos sorry I seen the little silver dial on right I thought it was for single or multiplayer. I am lucky enough to own both a 1219 and 1229 with piano cover. Thanx

@alanarmstrong2323 I have 27 Dual turntables currently. I run a 1219 in my basement system. I love the old Dual units. They come up daily here and I can't help myself. Getting rid of them is hard. Even have a 45 stacker for the 1219 / 1229.

Trevor... I have twiDual 604 turntables I'd like to freshen up... And I have two additional tables that both have separate flaws. I'd like to refresh and recondition the first two... and I am looking to make one (a third) working unit out of the other two. Is there anyway I can have you do them for me. I really liked your work.

Is the new cable high capacitance for CD-4 quadraphonic playback like the original though?

Better, it's low capacitance, I measured about half of the original

I've had this turntable for 40 years. After it died last week I found your video. The Refa cap is cracked and the fuse was blown. Can you give me some detail on the type of cap I should replace it with?

  • @TrevorsBench

    @TrevorsBench

    9 ай бұрын

What you want to replace it with should be a film capacitor with a class X1 or X2 rating (safety cap) and have the same value (47nF), lead spacing as the original also the same physical size or less so it fits. If you go to a parts distributor like Digikey, you can filter your searches to narrow down the list of potential replacements as there will be many choices

I do not like DUAL Schallplattenspieler. Never did, won't do in the future. I grew up with a HiFi SABA Telewatt Amp & Tuner, UHER R2R and a Lenco Reibrad TT, where I never have seen that Tonearm. Btw still running where I have no idea where that Telewatt had gone.

If you see ERO or ROE (it is prob the same company - guess they could not even get their name right) it is short for ROEDERSTEIN and also FRAKO, all those are Made in W-Gemany, and all those I have bad experiences with. Some seem to be okay still, but some I had shorts in them etc. If you see any of those, just for good measure, get them out. I dont thrust those. They are those plastic things you had, or golden in color.
