Thanks for the test portion of the video. No DSE. But question: I used the 2160p60 mode, and the video on my TV (LG55" CX Oled) seems to have very bad screen tearing issue. Is this because KZread encoding ? Also, I am in Europe, so the display friequency could technically be 59.7-59.9 don't remember the exact one... and not 60Hz.

Honestly, it’s annoying that companies can’t fix this. I bought a 65”, QN90A that looks awesome. However, I have noticed vertical banding, especially on an angle. I wouldn’t say it’s a terrible panel but for a tv worth $3000+ here in Canada, it makes me sick to my stomach that DSE is still an issue.

Great video explaining the issues experienced by the dirty screen effect. One issue we should begin to mention seen in larger TVs, specifically LCD tv’s 65” and larger, you can encounter dirty screen effect due to wall mounting placement. I recently purchased a 85” Sony X95J LCD tv and experienced areas of dirty screen effect during low light situations. I soon had the service tech over and he recommended removing the tilt from the wall mounted position which fixed the issue. What he explained was due to the larger screen size and increased weight of the TV there was excess stress being placed on the LCD panel in the forward tilted position, which resulted in screen uniformity issues observed during low light situations.

@@joserosado4667 tried it and that didn't seem to resolve it for me. Might be the difference between the way the models are built, I have the 85" X90H. I've been on the fence about whether or not to even try for a warranty claim, it's only noticeable when there are large areas of one uniform color, like when the screen fades to white, or when the shot is panning across a bright sky or something. It's bad enough to distract and bother me, but I doubt anyone else sees it.

I ended up getting two 85-in Sony X95J TVs with major grid pattern problems that were noticeable in normal content. Ended up finally getting a 83-in LG C1 which has slight uniform vertical banding that's not noticeable the vast majority of time so I'm keeping it.

My near 8 year old LG Smart 3D has started showing a grid of white sports very recently. But most of the time they cannot hurt gaming. Even the repair center advised me not repair it cuz the issue is so minimal and repairing is costly for such a little issue. However, I replaced that panel one year after purchase, a new dark spot appeared (I recently found out is one of LEDs in the grid). But this dark sport nearly had ZERO effect on my gaming life, u can only notice in plain color, but in games almost never. Of course these issues dont bother me at all while watching TV.

@stopthefomo, I just had a 65" LCD that developed a very large and very noticeable brown splotch after a couple weeks, which I could easily see on all but the darkest colors, and I started a return process for it. But then someone suggested I try unplugging the TV to fix it. I did that, and all that discoloration was gone. Can you explain why simply unplugging the TV would fix such a problem?

Also what tends to cause quite some DSE (the classic type: striping, patches etc) is full array local dimming grids. You can literally have a visible checkerboard on a lot of FALD LCD panels. Samsung comes to mind here for me with their Q90R, Q90T etc. Having owned a few of those it was one of my main gripes with the panel.

  • @ye-rochawkins5432

    @ye-rochawkins5432

    2 жыл бұрын

Yessir! I know exactly what you mean, and same here man. It was my main gripe too. I unfortunately see it on virtually every FALD LCD/QLED I look at. Even many of the MiniLEDs. I also notice the transitions in dark scenes, between the zones. I am just very sensitive to things like that. It’s kinda a curse tbh. Bc I’ve had a rough go finding a TV that didn’t have immersion breaking distractions such as this. It’s why I finally switched to OLED, after being anti OLED for quite some time. (Bc my experiences with BI) It definitely has been better on OLED. Less distractions. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss Quantum Dots. They’re magic imo. But even OLED has its own set of issues. I just thankfully got a clean panel the first go around. I am super hopeful for QD-OLED. I need something to bridge the gap, til QDEL comes to market.

Question for all. Can laying down your TV face down on a bed or big flat cushioned like sofa for approximately 2 hours cause more DSE? I had it like that while preparing the mount on the wall and screwing the VESA brackets on the back. Now after finding out my 65” U7K has vertical banding and DSE I can notice while playing content my big concern is if it were my fault. Someone please prove me wrong. 🙏

I experienced this over 10 years ago on a Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD HDTV, before LED TV screens were on the market. Back then, Aquos had a great 2 year defective panel guarantee. At the time, this particular set was really known for really bad banding and splotches that were really annoying in scenes where there is a grey sky. But I knew based on forum discussions that was an inherent defect with this model and not just a panel lottery situation, so I took advantage of the 2 year guarantee and waited until the last couple months to report the defect. 2 replacements later from Sharp, they all had the same DSE and I was able to get 100% of my money back under their guarantee and I used it to buy a Samsung set which had a more acceptable level of DSE.

@Ally LCD is not the same as LED. LCD is the display technology. A component of most LCD Displays is a back light and LED is technology used the backlight. Not all LCD TVs have LED Back lights. Early LCD Televisions often had Florescent Tube back lights for example.

When you say vertical banding do you mean that it pops up light in a vertical form? When I see mine, mine goes horizontal and I see some small lights in which those lights go horizontal, especially when displayed in a full grey screen. So what my TV is experiencing is DSE?

Good video, FOMO. I agree with basically everything you say here. I got an 85” X900H earlier this year and it has a bit of DSE that I can notice in the sky sometimes when gaming and I pan the camera, but it’s not that bad. It’s fairly uniform for the most part. It does bug me a bit that for all that money in 2021, we can’t get near perfect panels, but I guess it’s really our own fault for continuing to purchase and put up with TVs that have this issue. If we all stopped buying these, the manufacturers would have to up their game.

Question for you sir. I have read that loosing the screws a tad on the back of the panel can help alleviate dse and banding because those are usually caused by the stack being to tight. Have you ever tried doing this? I Have also read that over time that dse and banding can go away bc the heat from the tv helps loosen up the insides a little. Any thoughts? Thank you very much in advance!!

My LG 75" LED TV is 3 years old this September and over the last 4 months an area of DSE has become apparent that was not there, prior. So I think that, over time, DSE can be 'developed', rather that 'lessened'. The tv hangs flat against the wall on a wall bracket.

Another great video FOMO! anyway, I had massive red tint on my 65 lg c8 and then brutal horizontal banding and grid on a 77 lg cx, which I ended up selling bc it was out of the return window. My dad bought a 65 and 48 cx from a different store and both had horizontal banding. So, from what I’ve seen, oled is definitely not free of dse. I am now on my second 85 qn90a. The first had dead pixels. Just got the second two days ago through an exchange. It has no dead pixels or vertical bands or grid or anything. But it does have some streaks near the bottom of the screen. I am convinced every tv has a problem of some sort, especially dse. I decided this most recent dse isn’t enough to return it. It’s very faint and toward the bottom. I only notice it if I’m playing a video game with a light solid color toward the bottom of the screen. Even so, I still have to look for it. Skyboxes are always on the top of the screen, so this viewing scenario to see the dse is rare. With that said, the QC of these companies is brutal. I would be willing to pay more to ensure a clean panel and not have to go through swapping, which is a pain, especially with large TVs.

I find if you just got a new TV and you notice dirty screen don't worry. Most new tvs have it after a few week or months it will go and your picture will get better the TV needs to brake in over time so constant use and geting the best settings will sort this only WRKS on new tvs. Your braking the TV in form new. Most new TV have dirty screen but by changing seting and using TV constant it will fix after few weeks or few months as the TV will get best out of it after few week or months.. I got panisonic 4k I read up nearly every TV new will have dirty screen but like I said just brake the TV in and it will go only WRKS on new TV you just got.

Vertical lines over half the screen and just overall terrible uniformity. Even a slightly yellow area in the top middle. These things are only really noticable during grayish scenes, but when it's visible it's really visible. Of course I didn't get the extended warranty and it was outside the return window. SIGH.

On my QNED99, I have two dark spots on the top left half of the half of the LCD panel. Funny thing, we can temporarily fix dark spots by repeatedly lowering and increasing the backlight of the maxium to a minimum of several times in a row, then turning the backlight power back on as before.

I had hoped the X95J would be my next TV. I was ok with the performance, but the rainbow effect with direct on-screen lighting was a killer for me. I kept my eyes on black Friday pricing, even though I wasn't expecting to purchase until 2022 TV's were available. OLED was a no-go due to lack of brightness and burn-in fears due to my wife's viewing habits. The 65" A8H dropped to $1,499 on Cyber Monday and I snagged one. It is definitely bright enough. I keep the Light Sensor on for SDR viewing, and DV Bright for HDR. It is bright enough for my usage, even with overhead lighting turned on. YMMV!

Then took it back for the 65 since it also went on sale on Black Friday and also did the same tests for dse, banding etc…The 65 had some dse but when watching any kind of content or playing video games not even noticeable at all🤷🏽‍♂️ If it weren’t for all the people in the AV community I wouldn’t have even known about dse. So I’m pretty stoked with my tv, as long as it isn’t noticeable when viewing content or gaming keep it.

It does NOT show up on D.S.E. tests, nor does it show up on R.G.B. tests. The only way I saw it was because the game I was playing had a brown image on the screen. Then the backlight started giving up in late June this year. The black spots started showing up early last year. It was an LG 43UK6400PLF which I bought on black Friday 2019. The TV before that had a few big dark patches on the screen after four years. I bought a Philips 58PUS8535 and there's one very small dark grey spot near the bottom left of the TV already. I do sometimes wish I had been a bit more picky when I bought my QN90A. The thing is, when put to a white or grey screen and looking straight on, the panel is very clean. Years ago, I had an LG tv with noticeable shadow spots. My QN90A has nothing like that. The issue is that on an angle, you can see the vertical banding. What's weird as well is that if I am watching cable, I noitce it more in lighter images, but with HDR or very clean images, it's not there as much. Rehardless, the tv was expensive so although I will keep it for the amazing picture; I am disappointed that I have to see that here and there. On a side note, I agree that brighter screens are showing DSE more.

I’m confused on what to do as it’s a 75, and if I go Sony X90J am I just going to see the same thing and have to return another TV? Frustrating to say the least. My wife says she can’t see it all. I see it every time during football. You can see the same issue on Best buts sure for the 75in R646. Several people have complained about it. Other content is fine, and looks great. However, on top of the dse, I also have a problem with watching sports shows or other show where they do wide pan out shots, the images look blurry. However, when the camera is close up on the announcers face, single face, image looks great. 3 commentators on the scene and there is blurr. Again I’m confused. Never experienced this with a TV before, but also never had a 75in. I have a ticket open with TCL for the dse, but we are moving at a snails pace since opening the ticket on Nov. 30th. If your TV scores below 7.5 (which applies to 90 percent of TVs) on the gray uniformity test by RTINGS, you might observe it during Cyberpunk gameplay. Beyond this specific instance, I've never encountered it anywhere else except during a gray uniformity test.

One way I avoid the possibility of burn in with our Sony 77" A9G OLED, is to set the TV's sleep timer to turn the unit off right after Blu-rays or 4K BDs end, so that the menu screens that discs return to after movies end, can't stay on the TV for a significant period of time, if I should happen to fall asleep while BDs play. But honestly, in our particular situation, since our OLED is ONLY used for watching movies from our huge collection, in our theater room, that TV is never exposed to dangers like the ever present logos seen on TV channels like CNN. Because for watching TV programs, we use the 80" LCD/LED back-lit TV that's in our living room.

Before you throw out your TV due to DSE try this option: I learned from the AV forums you can use a soft cloth and rub the screen in circular motions (gentle pressure) where you see the darker shades areas on your screen. I was told it releases surface tention on the screen and restores the screen. There is a more technical description but I forget. It worked on my 2yr old tv and it looks great again. I'm surprised these KZread experts do not research a little more as it is not necessarily a lost cause like they tend to state. Give it a try before you start shopping for a new tv like I was going to do. Hope this helps some people.

My LG QNED MiniLED has a tiny amount of banding, but it's so faint I'd never mess with returning it.

CCFL TV's almost never had this, and even now these are nearly 15 years old, they still don't have it. Somehow the ageing and brightness variation of white LED's differs hugely from LED to LED, and that seems the root problem. Expect local dimming TV's to be/become even worse at this than edge-lit. OLED has other problems like burn-in and low saturation highlights (color bleach) due to the fact that it is 4 white LED's per pixel. Cheap-ass FullHD CCFL Bravia's from say 2010 remain the benchmark for IQ when showing a Blu Ray as designed. Decent colour, good blacks (more than black enough with a bit of ambient lighting in the room), totally even illumination, proper ul-altered motion in 24/25/30/50/60p and no excessive shapening or frame interpolation.
