Please compare HD3 with Eris E3.5.

HD3 sweet highend detail and nice mids forward sound.

Im pretty sure most people would prefer the HD3 but I love the laid back sound of the HD4

HD4 has a much more idealistic in room response which will sound more pleasing to most people than the HD3.

I have both. Used directly with the internal DAC, the HD4 clearly sounds better to me. The internal DAC setting looks the other way around: hd3 sounds "thicker" than you'd expect (maybe they have improved this aspect) and hd4 sounds "thinner" than you'd expect from it. Here I think they are compared with the internal DAC variant, but for me, a much better experience for both is with a DAC upgrade (I use Topping D30 pro, driver 5.27). At first glance, Hd3 seems victorious and seems to sound clearer. After a while, I started to prefer Hd4, for the increased impression of natural sound, and real instruments. What is gratifying: the higher the quality of the source, both speakers keep up and offer a better experience. I bought HD3 for the first time, I was satisfied, but I wanted something bigger. I bought Presonus 4.5 and Mackie mr524, but I returned them. I may not have left them long enough to get over the breaking period, but HD4 seemed to sound better the first time around. Anyway, the period of "breaking" on HD4 was over 60 hours for me.

I have the Topping DX3 Pro +, once connected the internal DAC is being ignored? I'm in the market for new desktop speakers and the space is limited so the HD3's are a contender.

Any issues with your topping dx3 pro? I have the older topping mx3 and I have volume knob issues where the volume jumps randomly regardless of turn position and bt connectivity issues (for my work mac) all the time and it drives me nuts. I’m thinking of going going to the HD4 to drop the amp all together.

@@mytrung my topping is d30 pro and not dx3. Without preamp has no influence on the volume. I have volume problema with Tidal Apple, but that is another problem.

Gonna need a sub for either, so go with the 3's since the mid and treble are clearer/cleaner. My two bits.

Apperantly the Frequency Response says it all. HD4 more bass and more sub-bass which provides fuller sound. More low mid so the mid sound fuller and more natural. HD3 more high-mid and much more treble which bring brighter sound and more details, the mid becomes more forward. HD3 is the not a good stand alone speaker but a perfect one when pairing with a subwoofer (S8). HD4 is a better stand alone speaker. My advice incase some of you considering these 2: If you dont want to pay extra money for a subwoofer, then go for HD4, otherwise, HD3 + Subwoofer is better than HD4, and even better than HD4 + subwoofer.

@@phantom6134 Với gu nhạc này mình recommend A2+ + Sub S8 bro nhé. Nếu chỉ xét HD4 và A5+ wireless thì A5+wireless.

Is the bass reduction switch turned on or off on the HD3 ? Also, HD3 is 60W and HD4 is 120W. Sonic difference is likely more apparent at low volumes.

How about PreSonus R80 v2 vs Eris E8 XT and PreSonus R80 v2 vs Focal Alpha 80 Evo?

So which one we going with? Worth the extra $100?

Funny... I am listening this video on an HD3 that I have had for several years now. But I also hear difference between the HD4 and HD3 from your recordings, which makes me think that it does not really show the differences at all, since I hear the differences other people comment about on my set of HD3. :)
