Drywall power sanders - Festool Planex 2 vs Makita

Is more expensive better?! That all depends on what you're looking for in a set up. The Festool Planex 2 is the most advanced and expensive system on the market and for good reason. Exceptional dust control, random orbit, a lighted head, and tons of suction but its $$$$. The Makita is a lot more affordable but doesn't come close with some of the options. But if you're looking for speed the Makita is where it's at. Its fast, cordless and the pad is perfect. What system is your choice? Premium or affordable?

Love the video! I have been using vacuum power sanders since the mid 90s, did not know there was so many options out there. I have mainly used Porter Cable sanders. Just recently used a Harbor Freight power sander with a light built in, was not that impress with it. But I do like the light system! I had to put one on my Porter Cable sanders. Thanks again for sharing with us your sanders!

That porter cable is a back breaker, try out the mirka leros, the new Festool, or even this Makita. All vastly, lighter, and better balanced

I’m not a professional by no stretch of the imagination, but do a lot of DIY projects for myself and friends. I work at my own pace these days…slow. I would never make it doing any kind production work! I have the Planex Easy and it’s a great sander. The dust extraction is incredible. The down side to the Planex Easy is that the length is not adjustable and it becomes a problem in small spaces. Otherwise I love it. That said, yesterday I ordered the Planex 2 which is supposed to be here midweek. You mentioned a soft pad for the Planex. I’ve never used one on my Easy, but I have gouged some of my work and had to go back and fix it. Do you think using a pad between the backing plate and the sandpaper will help correct that? If so, is one pad enough? By the way, great review!

How much does the Makita weigh and festool, is there an attachments that fits in tight corners for the Makita and festool it would be nice to see how they sand in corners and tight spaces

The Makita has a removeable brush to sand angles. The Festool does not. The Makita weighs about 15% more but I find it much easier to use.

This would be great for that! Either one would work - the Festool is quite a bit more expensive but the vacuum system is amazing. It will suction itself to the ceiling which helps a lot

  • @DrywallShorty

Absolutely. When we tape we do butts, flats, then angles. The flat goes over the butt joint tape, the angle tape over the flat.

@@daengchounlamany4192 Kilz is a good primer and Benjamin Moore paint. Get exterior paint for your bathroom for obvious reasons. Keep a good pace though because exterior paint dries a little quicker. 2 coats of each just to make sure you get every nook and cranny.

The Makita provides a MUCH better finish. Makita is also the only company that makes 100% ceramic sanding discs. Using 180 grit will leave a completely scratch free finish. The Festool leaves swirls.
