You mentioned that a timer could cause the nothing happens when you push the start button. You do not show how to test the timer if this is the case. I have tested the following: door switch, start push button, thermal cutoff, good power to the dryer. whirlpool wed4950hw

You will just want to test the timer as shown in this video and go through the entire chart when testing the time.

My Roper dryer in the timer setting runs for hours.. could this be a faulty timer?

Yes, if the timer is not advancing through the cycle on the timed dry setting, it is usually a failure of the timer itself.

@PartsDr it does advance, but it will run for hours, and the clothes aren't dry. I have replaced the heating element, thermal fuse, Thermal Cut-off Switch, dryer thermostat, and cycle thermostat. In the high heat timer setting, I have to stop and restart the dryer after 30 minutes to get my clothes to dry and stop the dryer when the clothes are dry.

@@kimberlysousa5091 The timed dry setting should be run the dryer for the set amount of time. If you set the dryer to run for 30 minutes on a timed dry cycle and the dryer runs for 90 minutes, then you most likely have a failure of the timer. Your slow drying could be a separate, unrelated issue. Make sure to check the exhaust venting and dryer for any lint build up or restrictions.

You probably have to test T to X and T to F like our dryer timer chart shows. What model number is your dryer?

@PartsDr Thanks for the reply. Model is WED5000DW2. Timer won't advance in any timing mode, but heat levels work. I opened timer and cleaned all contactors with sand paper. Good video BTW.

@@wilee.coyote5298 The timer chart for your model shows separate columns for T to F and T to X. So you will just need to test it the same as we show in this video. The timer motor on the timer could be bad and causing it to not advance. You would need to replace the timer as the motor is not sold separately. partsdr.com/part/w10185992-timer

@PartsDr Thanks for the quick reply. A replacement part came in. The resistance and continuity test on motor and tabs were the same. I installed the replacement part and it is now working / advancing. It appears just the motor gears may have been bad. Thanks for your responses and help, I very much appreciate it!

Follow up: I took apart the motor. The yellow plastic shaft/gear was broken where it should connect to the motor - obviously causing it to spin instead of engaging.
