This is a great video for people who don't know anything about repairs and aren't very good at DIY jobs. We got a free old washer and dryer that we were told worked... and they sort of did, except that there was no heat in the dryer. I looked through about 10-40 DIY articles and videos, and this one was the simplest to follow for doing the actual repair (I found other ones that were useful for diagnosing the problem). Our dryer works as of 5 minutes ago! (The actual repair took us less than 30 minutes, although this does not include the prior work of research, testing all the wires and therefore getting quite familiar with them beforehand, and watching the video patiently twice)
THANK YOU for this video! I bought my dryer used, and instead of 1 thermal cut-off and 1 high limit thermostat in these two positions, I found TWO high-limit thermostats-- the previous owner had apparently removed thermal cut-off and replaced with a second high-limit thermostat. NOW I understand why the 2 different parts were in the replacement kit: They are the CORRECT parts for this repair.
Greatly appreciate your prompt feedback. The terminal was covered with lint, so it was hard to spot. You guys are awesome. Thanks to you, I now have a working dryer and happy household.
Thanks. I was able to test/replace them without removing the heating element housing without too much hassle on my kenmore 90 series from the front.
Thank you! By following your video we were able to fix our dryer and I dont have to go and spend time and money at the laundromat! Woohoo!
A simpler suggestion is to take off the back panel of the dryer. After taking off the back panel, you can get right at the housing without trying to unscrew the housing and angle it out through the front. You can also test the thermostat/fuse right from the back to see if they need replacement before you go through and take off extra parts.

I own this model dryer and on a Kenmore 90 Series dryer, you can't take the back off. you have to repair everything from the front of the dryer. The only other option he had was take off the front panel as well. Then take the remove the belt from the pulley and pull the drum out.
Great video, maybe you can suggest a repair for our dryer kenmore model 11060972990 runs perfectly when no heat function is selected, when a heated function is selected it starts and shuts off after a minute or so. It can be immediately re started and it shuts off again. Thanks.
Thank you for the informative video.
Hi Steve, I followed the steps and removed the heat element housing. I installed new heat element but I can't get the housing to mount and lock-in. I slided the housing from left to right (clockwise). Thank you for this helpful video.
Great video. Saved me time and money!
Several videos out there... you guys are the best...!!
By inside dryer, that should mean everywhere lint can build up, all over the inside is one area, in the exhaust duct is another, and the one I wasn't aware of was inside the housing leading from the lint screen to the blower. Everytime you remove the lint screen to clean, a little bit of lint drops into this area, or passes by the lint screen sides as it doesn't make a perfect seal.
The back panel does not come off in my unit, Whirlpool Gold. It is a cabinet. You have to tackle it from the front
Thank you for the very helpful video. Both my thermostats test fine, but when i put the tester on the white heater element terminals they appear to not work. (they don't "beep" like the thermostats. But the white terminal part appears to be mounted on the whole element housing. Is the white terminal part not replaceable? And should it beep when connecting the tester? Thank!
Mine has the front two wires connected to the inside springs. How do I disconnect the wires?
Hi there, That would indicate a problem with your door switch - a mechanism that prevents the dryer from operating when the door is open. The part number compatible with your dryer is PS346704, and can be found on PartSelect [dot] com. I hope that helps!
Our dryer won't shut off when we open the door as it keep running. Also, the light doesn't work. I tried replacing the lightbulb and still, won't work either. What parts do you think I need to fix it? The model number is geq9800pw2 Whirlpool.
Thank you for the video, my dryer works yes indeed easy fix

Hi Steve. Greetings from Peru. My frigidaire dryer DE500ADW5 overheats and the power to the heating element is not turned off . Besides , the wires and terminals to te heating element are getting chared. What coud be the problem?
I can’t get the element housing back on the duct any help anyone ?
Someone please help! I am female and not sure what to do. My dryer timer goes on and the light in side the dryer goes on when I open the door however when starting the dryer it doesn’t heat or the inside doesn’t spin. What can I do or what parts do I need to buy?
I think you need to add one more step to this instruction video, that is, determine why the thermal fuse blew... It overheated for some reason, and more than likely either the vent is clogged up or the space after the lint screen and before the fan is clogged up. In my case it was both, dirt dobbers had clogged the vent thru the wall, and the space after the lint screen was packed with lint (15 years of it!) yeah I should have checked it sooner than 15 years.. I will check it yearly from now on!
My dryer was not heating properly. I have changed out the Heating element, High Level Thermostat, and Thermal Cut-Out. It worked for one load and then stopped heating again. I checked the Heating Element and High Level Thermostat with an Ohm meter and they are working. The Thermal Cut-Out however is not showing a reading. This is the second time I have tried this and ended up with the same result. It appears I have my wire harness hooked up correctly, but without being able to find a wiring diagram on-line I can not say with 100% that they are correct.
Omg thank you my friend
I wish my heating unit would go back on that easy! I've been trying to over an hour- longer than the rest of the whole operation! Not sure what I am going to do. I cant find where the tab is supposed to lock into. I even tipped the dryer on its back so that I could push down! Any tips?

There is no tab for the heater assembly. The rear of the heating element housing fits into the round opening of the air inlet duct. It is a snug fit and rotating the housing back and forth may help.
Hi I have a Kenmore Elite and the cut off thermal went bad I need to know what wire went on top the black or the red and white thanks for any help you can give. Gina

Where is the cycling thermostat location on the exact same dryer I changed the fuse n high limit thermostat, and element, which was broke. Now dryer heats 5 mins then no more heat,
@partselect

The cycling thermostat is located on the blower housing. If your dryer heats for only a short period of time, then I would suspect that the high limit thermostat is getting tripped possibly from a restricted airflow, so check the vent cap and ducting as well.

Thanks that was the problem
I replaced the thermal cut off kit on my Kenmore elite twice, and the thermal limiter keeps opening up and my dryer won't heat. I'm no appliance repair man, but I'm an electrician and did all the electrical checks I know of. after each replacement , the dryer got hot briefly and then it stopped. what could be making the thermal limiter open up so quick? I have clean duct and good air flow. any ideas?

(Yes I know this comment is 5 years old, but these dryers last and last if you maintain and repair them.) Usually it's an airflow restriction in the dryer vent piping. Causes excess heat to build up in the dryer and trip the thermal cutoff. Maybe the flexible vent hose got crushed a bit and is reducing airflow. Also, less common, can include lint build-up in the exhaust tubing within the dryer frame. They have "dryer vent brushes" that can be as much as 30 feet long you can run into the dryer venting to try to clear the vent piping. Another possibility, is, if wire ends attaching to the heating element are corroded, replace the wire ends.

The correct wiring for the thermostat, themal cut off and heater should be as follows. These instructions are based on a mechanical timer dryer. If your wire colors do not match this description, please let us know before proceeding. The high limit thermostat is the device mounted on the heater housing that is closest to the front of the dryer. The thermal cut off device is located further back on the housing. There is a red wire that originates at the timer and attaches to one terminal of the thermal cutoff. There is a red wire with a white stripe that goes from the second terminal of the thermal cutoff and attaches to one terminal on the cycling thermostat located on the blower housing. The other terminal of the cycling thermostat has a red wire that goes back to the heater assembly and attaches to one terminal on the high limit thermostat. The other terminal on the high limit thermostat should have a white wire with a black stripe that goes back to the timer as well as to one terminal on the heating element. The other heater element terminal should have a red wire that goes to the motor switch.
I can't see how the wires are attached to the fuse kit, which is what I needed to see.
When timer cycle finishes the drum stops spinning but the heater element continues to heat. It has become necessary to open door and unplug as it seems too hot. Heater element was recently replaced. What are the suggested parts to fix this issue Kenmore Model 110 68712894 Thanks

+Trevor Miller The symptoms suggest either a shorted element to element housing or improper wiring of the heater circuit. The timer contacts and the motor contacts for the heater circuit, should both open when the cycle stops.

Joe and Sara Baisden You may have a shorted start switch or a defective motor switch. Check the continuity of the start switch first, it should be open circuit unless the button is pressed.
Not easier to remove the back, I tried that first before seeing a video how to do it correctly. Removed the duct, removed all the screws, it still won't come off, too much other stuff connected to that back.
in my Kenmore Elite, the yellow/red wire is loose, but I can't figure out where it should be connected to. I tested the continuity of the Thermal cut-off and it's open (no continuity). before I replace the switch, I want to make sure it doesn't have anything to do with the loose red/yellow wire. please advise. thanks.

The Kenmore Elect Dryer's model # 11064992300 and the part #WP3387747. Thanks, I hope this helps. I got the element in with no problem, where I'm having trouble is with putting that tube back in. I have watched your video but it looks like both side are the same size. I think that bracket is the only thing that hold it in to the back. PLEASE let me know. It would be great if the part that has the element in it would go inside, be so much easier. Wife not happy without the dryer.........lol

Hi Stanley. Thanks for the model number. You may want to check out this video, as it pertains to the heating element (part # WP3387747), and not the thermal cut-off kit: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZdlkrGqlse0mdI.html To try and answer your question though, the tube connects to the back of the dryer with a locking tab, that you can engage by lining up the tube with the opening in the back of the dryer, and then turning it clockwise until it locks into position. At this point the bracket should line up with the bottom of the dryer so you can re-install the two mounting screws that hold it into place. I hope this helps, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any more installation advice. Good luck with the repair.

I found out that you must lift the tube up and put the tab inside the back opening to keep it in place then put the screws in. I watched another video from Richards App.
