OMG, these instructions couldn't have been better! I ordered the parts from Amazon, got them and spent about 1 1/2 hour installing! It really worked! (And I'm challenged with this stuff). Thaks Matt! Very nice video and part/tool links! And you are correct, getting those two terminals off of my thermal fuse was hard!!! I kept thinking there may be a locking clip -but no, just need to carefully pry off with a flathead screwdriver.

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions. This is the third time I've repaired our dryer with your help through your videos. The first two were F01 errors - those were fun opportunities to practice soldering skills). This time the dryer wasn't heating. Watched your video and I promptly ordered the parts via the links you shared. When they arrived I thought that maybe I should have checked a manual for the dryer model I own just to confirm that I had the correct parts. Your dryer in the video looked like an exact match to mine, but what if it wasn't. Interestingly the manual I found online had a very different looking thermal fuse. I worried that I had the wrong part, but before returning it to order the part shown in the manual, I thought I should open up the dryer to double check. Sure enough, the parts in your link were exactly what was needed. Dryer's working again and we saved time and $$$. Thanks so much!

Karean, nice job. Check that your vent pipe is clean and not clogged. Often as these build up with lint the dryer will get hotter than it should which causes the fuse to blow as a safety measure.

@@MattsGarageMiscDIY Yup. It seemed to work great then shut off again. Cold damp clothes at the end of the cycle. {{grrr}} Took the machine apart again to check the solenoids with a multimeter - both good. Then pulled the maching out to check the vent hose. That was embarrassing. Bought a new hose, cleaned out the vent outlet in the wall, and tried it again. This time I realized that the flame after the first repair was orange. After cleaning and replacing the vent hose, the flame was blue. First load worked great. Second one .... @#%^ Should I check the thermal fuse again?

@@kareanwrightson3864 If you have a multimeter you can quickly check the thermal fuse for continuity. Recently I had to swap the solenoids on my dryer. They'd work when cold, but after one or two cycles (10 minutes into drying the dryer would no longer light). @@MattsGarageMiscDIY just a quick update with thanks, again. I ran out of time to devote to continued attention to the dryer repair so I called a local, highly-regarded, repairman to come check it out. He said everything I'd done to that point was great. I just missed cleaning the exterior vent exit and the cage that surrounds it. He said I did everything that he would have checked or done in the process of figuring out where the problem might be. Deduced that the only thing it could be at that point was the gas valve. He replaced that and it's working great. While he was there he also gave me some diy tips for the washer, opened it up, and showed me a couple of things to maintain and watch for. Thanks, again, for your terrific videos and instructions!

What size are the little bolts to take cover off? 1/4?

With my bad thermal fuse my dryer was not igniting at all. Now it cycles heat on and off as needed depending on the heat setting.

Great video. How did you remove the wiring from the thermal fuse as for being tough to removed.

It should wiggle free, but take your time, you don’t want to pull one of the wires out of the connector. I was gripping the connector, do not pull on the wire. Good luck!

hello I have been given a whirlpool dryer and where I live there is no gas in the laundry room and I have tried drying but it does not heat gas is required

Hey man mine is newer one~ish and looks like yours but is in like a sea foam green color. I replaced both the thermal fuse and the other piece you installed but it still doesn't produce heat. Do you know what might be the cause?

Another fairly common culprit may be the gas solenoids. they are also inexpensive and easy to reach on most models. There are some good KZread videos that demo how to test yours for proper resistance. Best of luck, you’ll get it!

Where do you get the thermafuse? And other part? Would lowes have it. Or I need to order online

Ben, I wonder if yours is doing what mine was in my other video. When cold (not having run in a while, it would light and cycle heat a few times, and then mid cycle it would stop lighting (it would glow bright to ignite, but no gas to actually fire). Fuses series are devices so it doesnt matter which wire is right or left, whats more important is that you label wich fuse they belong to

This is true, as I take things apart that I have never fixed before, I like to label so that I can put it back exactly how it was.

C Ray, my understanding is that it is normal for the flame to cycle on and off, and it’s dependent on how high you set the heat. On a lower temp it will not stay lit as long and then only relight as needed to maintain the heat setting.

i have the same exact driyer but mine is electric. will this parts work for it ?

I don’t have any experience with an electric version, but imagine it might also have a fuse. Pretty easy to open up and have a quick look around. If you have a multimeter you can remove and test parts. Best of luck!

Joanne, behind the dryer in addition to the electrical cord, you should have the vent line that exits the home, and a smaller flexible gas line connected, often with a yellow colored valve handle that you can turn to shut off the gas. Hope that helps.

Matt i have a question, like an idiot I broke my multimeter as I was grabbing it to check the thermostats so as of now I just bought some parts that I'm guessing is broken so my question is this. When the dryer is on I see no glow or ignition, do these pieces effect that or should I have bought the solenoids instead? FYI im still waiting on the new thermostats to come in so everything is still original

A couple years back my sister who has the exact same dryer as mine had the no heat issue. In her case it proved to be the solenoids. When my dryer stoped heating I was pretty sure it’d be the same thing so I ordered solenoids, but added the thermal fuse and thermistor because the parts are cheap and I figured if I’m in there I’ll check or replace it all. As it turned out MY only real issue was the thermal fuse which likely failed due to my partially clogged vent pipe. Now I have solenoids on hand for when that day comes.. Good luck with your fix.

There are other potential causes, bad igniter, even a bad dryer door switch could cause problems, but the fuse, thermistor and solenoids are worth a go.

Vic, sorry forgot to mention that my dryer was also not igniting like yours. In my video the bad fuse WAS the fix, but there are as mentioned other possible weak links in the chain.

Kim, the thermal fuse will blow if the dryer is getting dangerously hot (to prevent fires). This wouldn’t happen at initial start-up. Usually it’s a symptom of the lint vent being clogged up and not flowing enough air to keep things within the safe heat range. The fuse is easy to test, and cheap to replace if yours is bad. Good luck with your dryer repair!

How did you remove the connectors on the thermal fuse??

Gripping the connector only and gently rocked them a little while pulling. You do want to be careful not to rip a wire out of the connector (by simply pulling on the wire)

if you have gas stove and/or a/c furnace..etc in your home be sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors and of course smoke detectors too

I replaced both of these parts but no luck. I have ignition but no flame. Ignitor starts to heat up then fades away and stop. I never get any flame. I tested the coil solenoid and I have continuity on both solenoids. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I believe the coils need to be tested for resistance, I had to change my coils fairly recently and also posted a video, it’s also an easy swap and the parts are cheap. Good luck.

Elizabeth, was the old fuse bad? Another fairly common issue with no heat can be the gas solenoids. Test yours before replacing them. There are some good KZread videos that demo how to test yours for proper resistance. They are also inexpensive and easy to reach on most models. Best of luck!

Elizabeth, sorry I’ve only worked on Gas Dryers, never an electric model. Are there no good videos? I have no idea on the nut size for the heating element. Best of luck, maybe you can capture some video and share with others that have the same issue on their electric dryer!

Thank you for these instructions, but my gas Whirlpool duet dryer has a similar problem that these instructions didn't help resolve. I appreciate any further tips! I did replace the thermal switch and thermistor, but my problem recurred. Here's what happens: my dryer is idle for at least half an hour. Then I put a wet load in and start it. The gas will ignite and run for about 2-3 minutes as normal. Then a high pitch sound starts coming from the bottom. About a minute later the flame extinguishes and shortly after the high pitch sound stops. The drum keeps turning and I can see the igniter glowing on and off every minute trying to reignite the flame, but the flame never ignites. Keeps doing this until I cancel the cycle. If I try to re-run it within 5 or 10 minutes, the igniter glows on but the flame never ignites. The drum runs without a flame. I have to let it sit still for at least 30 minutes to get it to re-ignite like before and only for just 2-3 minutes as mentioned, then a high pitch sound, etc.. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It is behaving like this with the older and the newer thermal fuse and thermistor. Thank you!

Check out my other video where something similar happened with my dryer. In my case, the Gas Valve Solenoid Coils needed to be replaced. Easy fix, inexpensive, hope this helps! These over time stop working when they get warm, which is why when cold it will work for a light, and then during the cycle they stop working as they get warm. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lq1_18SdhbCTgqw.html

How come everyone else’s dryer they can find the thermal fuse so easily as almost as if it were in plain site. I’m tryna find the thermal fuse in my dryer and that crap is nowhere to b found. I’m getting really pissed off about it

*****HELP***** I just changed the Thermal Fuse and ran into the same issue getting the leads off the old thermal fuse. The right one I felt didn't click on the new thermal fuse as well as it was on the old fuse. Anyway I buttoned everything up and started the dryer and now I'm getting Error Code L2 (mine is not gas btw) which I wasn't getting previous to this project. I didn't wait to see if the dryer got hot or not. I turned it off, unplugged it and came here to the comment section. Btw I did check my electrical panel and I didn't blow a breaker.

Wait wait wait…why is that dryer plugged in to an outlet that isn’t made for appliances? Very dangerous.

gas dryer only requires 120v to operate, not a 240v plug like an electric dryer or stove

Hope that 110v plug wasn’t your dryer plug. 🤦‍♂️
