Drunk Driver With No License Refuses To Believe She's Drunk

#cops #police #arrest
On March 25th, 2023. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a drunk driver who nearly collided with another vehicle. The woman did not have a valid U.S. driver's license and believed that her French license was valid for U.S driving. She kept asking the officers what she did wrong even though she was intoxicated and couldn't pass the sobriety tests. This is the body-cam footage of the events that followed.

As a French, a long time ago, I had had too much to drink after a night out in Chicago. I was taking a nap in my car because I knew I couldn’t drive. A police officer knocked at my window to tell me I couldn’t park there. I told him I was too drunk to handle my car, so he asked me to drive about 200 yards ahead and stay there until he would come to check on me again. I dozed off again and he did wake me up about 2 hours after that to tell me I could leave. Since then, I have a HUGE respect for the American police because in the same situation here in Paris, it would have been a complete other story.

  • @evernit

As a foreigner living in Paris, France, I find very unlikely that any sane police officers would ask a drunk driver - let alone falling asleep(!) - to move a single yard or just meter away, especially when they were told you were _"too drunk to handle [your] car."_ Chicago is a six time larger than the capital of France, so parking in Paris as one of the most densely populated cities in the world, is also six time more challenging than in the most populous city of Illinois. So just so you know why _"it would have been a complete other story"_ elsewhere, but for complete other reasons than you tend to "respect".

Am a police officer in Germany, this lady is a complete lair. France is one of the strictest countries in the EU on OWI's almost as strict as Japan. In France anything over a .008 will get you a 5000 euro fine, 6 points, no license for 3yrs and in serious cases prison. This lady knows what is going on and can tell she is playing the ignorant foreigner card. Even in Germany for a 1st offense. A level higher than a .005 will get you a fine of 500+euros and 3 points. But if you level is very high, 2nd offense or if its involves crashes or injuries, you will lose you driving privileges permanently and or prison etc.

I literally just got rear ended by a drunk driver completely stopped at a stoplight and then he fled the scene. Hit me goin 50mph. Totaled my car. Thanks to good samaritans he got arrested but the scary thing is it was before 11am. Sloppy drunk before noon. He totaled my car. No trunk anymore and my backseat pushed up to the front seat. Pushed me into the intersection and the impact made my glasses fly off into the backseat floor ane my hat was on the backseat. He looked right at me and drove away. Im suing him if i cant sue his insurance company but hes in jail still. This happened this past Friday and im still shook up I had to go to the hospital and still in pain. People that drink and drive are the worst kind of people. I think there should be harsher laws. He could have offed me. And it was out of nowhere cause i didnt see it coming

Yes, a driver's license issued in France is recognized and honored in the state of Florida. Visitors from France who wish to drive in Florida can do so with their valid French driver's license for the duration of their visit. Florida law permits this as long as the license remains valid and the driver is not a resident of the state. If a person from France becomes a resident of Florida, they are then required to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of establishing residency.

She doesn’t appear drunk. The officer was talking very fast even for an English speaking person. There was obviously a language issue. Why didn’t he slow down? And why wouldn’t they do the breathalyzer? That seems sketchy. Very sketchy.

I don't take the side of drinking drivers - but all of the pure ignorance of USA citizens regarding the French surrender to the Nazis in WWII is simply stunningly ignorant. The French armed forces had to retreat from the Western front with Germany as they were outgunned, encircled, and had questionable leadership. In the process they lost most of their heavy artillery and many of their experienced officers. In short - they were running from the German advance and were severely weakened and vulnerable (they would have lost anyway!) Nonetheless, the French wanted to preserve as much of their population and their beautiful cities and infrastructure as they could; they even removed and hid their amazing collection of artworks from galleries and museums so the Nazis would not plunder/destroy it, and saved the innocent lives of scores of French non-combatants - in surrendering countless lives, along with the history of Paris, and the rest of France, was preserved. The French had fought in at least 50 wars in Europe, which is more than any other European country, and won the majority of them. Wars come and go but Paris, and France, is eternal. Understand? Moreover, the French Underground Resistance never stopped fighting the Nazis (neither did most French citizens who resisted in less organized ways), and provided tons of extremely valuable and accurate info to all of the allied forces. Look what happened to the city of Warsaw, Poland, and see the resistance at the Hermitage Museum, Russia - I mean, really, do some research.
