Drummer reacts to "Jack of Speed" by Steely Dan
Well, we have finally arrived at "Two Against Nature"... after many weeks of saying I was going to do this and then forgetting and then remembering as i'm already editing the video.... we are here! And what an intro to this album... This could have easily fit on Pretzel Logic or anything of the sorts of that era.

Hey, KZread: young Lee gives some of us elderly and retired musicians the will to keep on breathing . Leave him the fuck alone as he’s doing a social service and we love him for it.

You are too kind my friend. It’s just a rough patch in viewership. It happens at the end of the month since I’m usually at the end of the requests. I tend to front load the month with the best videos 😅 but all that to say, yeah. Back off. 🤣🤣👍

Almost Gothic - Negative Girl - West of Hollywood are the best from TAN !

Negative Girl, please! One of the Dan’s most accessible lyrics, with music that perfectly evokes the exact atmosphere.
I absolutely love both the reform albums Two Against Nature & Everything Must Go. Superb production, as always, super grooves, and fantastic lyrics. I suspect you would like Donald's most recent solo work Sunken Condo's & Morph the Cat too!

Donald Fagen’s solo albums continue to build on his top tier compositions. His solo albums embraces the Steely Dan mystique.

Definitely check out Donald’s solo albums. The Nightfly from 1982 tends to get the most attention, and it’s a classic. But its follow-ups shouldn’t be missed. Kamakiriad from 1993 came the closest to being a Steely Dan reunion during that hiatus period. Walter produced the album, played guitar on all of the tracks, and I think even co-wrote one of them.
The opening and ending horn was stuck in my head forever.

I can see why. Their music is like a disease that you can contract and it just never leaves your bones lol
We do this track in my Dan homage band. Love everything on the album. Try West of Hollywood. It has one of the most incredible sax solos you will ever hear. Keep up the good work young man.
My all time favorite group. They always put me in a good mood.
That Steely Dan groove is always so good.
I think it’s time for some Elvis Costello and the Attractions my friend . Like Oliver’s Army for example from The Armed forces album .

I had that album which came with a bonus 45 single with the album.
So excited for this Lee... hopefully, you will play another song from this album, Janie Runaway.. it is one of my favorite by the Dan. I know you will enjoy Jack of Speed. Take care all.
I say it every chance I get, West of Hollywood is classic SD, reminiscent of their work in Aja and Gaucho. Jack of Speed is such a groove. After twenty years all that’s changed a bit is Donald’s voice. West of Hollywood, West of Hollywood, West of Hollywood. 😊

A great song live, lyrics are self-explanatory.
So glad to see someone doing some Dan cuts off Two Against Nature. A great Grammy winning album. But, of course, you can't miss with the Dan!

Perfect summer vibes here! Honestly all the songs today were pretty summer-y lol
All their songs are good. Amazing
Lee, it was interesting to hear about your visit with your mother and how you shared music. It’s great that you can do that. Seeing how one’s parents respond to your favorite songs is a fascinating way of getting to know them more deeply, I think. It was a nice Steely Dan song, smooth SD style.

Do you think Kent Nishimura’s Steely Dan guitar covers could be programmed in? The Pretzel Logic and Hey Nineteen from April? They may have gotten lost in the hubbub…
For some reason, the audio was out of sync for me on this one. Anyone else have that problem?
Glad you delved into 2 against. This everything must go and the Becker/Fagen solo materical will give you plenty to listen to. Do check out Gaslighting Abby, West of Hollywood, Negative Girl, Almost Gothic, pretty much any song on that album.
West of Hollywood is two minutes longer than this.
Never understood the hate some people heap on the later SD output. This album and EMG are unique for their respective times and withstand repeated listening. Lee, stay with these albums....they will sneak up in your playlists over time.
You being a drummer means you NEED to listen to "Negative Girl off this album. Colaiuta on the kit.

Vinnie is so good on that song.
Lol 😂. The quantum theory of Steely Dan ❤!
As a drummer you should look at cream performing Toad live featuring Ginger Baker
I hope you check out IGY by Donald Fagen. Amazing track.
You want funk? We have funk.
Who else was at Fiddler's Green (Coors Amphitheater) in Denver on this tour? The most notable thing was how much weaker Donald's voice had gotten by that time but hey, it happens to everyone.
That wonderful snare…….
😊
Almost gothic, great aong
Great album / won 8 Grammies I believe !
Darts work with Steely Dan just fine.
so mad i been missing SD sunday with ya. things be hectic here. SALUT! edit change the bad F bomb for one you can use instead. frik works... "frikken" is was a thing as s kid where im from oh that "frikken kid from math is such a nerd" not saying to use that though, rabbit hole time the actual Fbomb is thought to derive from the German word Fricken "to strike" so historically its a good replacement.. THE MORE YOU KNOW🌈🌟
You really need to investigate some of the tracks from their Plush TV Jazz-Rock Party. It was recorded in a pretty intimate club in NYC and the sound is clean. There's a rendition of JOS with Walter and Jon Herrington playing off each other like Keith Richards and Mick Taylor in the early 70's. Their rendition of Black Friday, FM and Pretzel Logic are just superb. In my opinion, better than the studio. You can drum up the individual tracks on KZread any time. Just type in the track and add "live" and they'll come up. It's got all of Nature, or most of it. All awesome!

I have this DVD and I can attest that it is indeed most excellent. Highly recommended!
Negative girl , also great
A more mellow sound done very well.
You can also create some new obscene words that you tube hasn't heard.
utube has some very strange roles
KZread hates me too.
If it hadn't been mentioned before, Steely Dan took their name from one of the many sexually uninhibited scenes in William Borroughs' infamous work, 'Naked Lunch'.
A comment.
I would like you to focus on some live McCartney from the 2000s. There's Back in the US live (20022), the entire concert can be found on youTube, but some of the sites are blocked? Then there is the DVD The Space Between US (2005) which has about 21/3 of the 2005 tour concert but lots of other extras. Again, some of the youTube versions are blocked. but there are some that go through and then there is Good Evening New York City (2009) the concert at the New Citi Field stadium. All have his current band line up that came together for the 2002 tour. BTW that 2002 tour had a wild preshow presentation on stage for 20 minutes before the show. It's hard to describe. And the Space Between Us DVD was in Anaheim with tons of celebs in the audience and a hookup to the space station.
Almost gothic and negative girl from this album, please.
