Invincible is incredibly fun because the whole track is basically in 7 with the constant pulse of 3 going underneath. I saw Tool live in January and in the crowd you felt the 3 but heard the 7. It was wild

John Kew has such an amazing catalogue. His Mastodon Chimes at Midnight, and Tool Leteralus are ballistic. His Ellie Goulding Hanging On cover is also amazing! He's disappeared a bit lately...a shame, as he is seriously good! 🤘🤘

No one does it like John when it comes to Tool covers. He is so god damn precise. I would give anything to have new John videos coming out; I miss them a lot. The only proof you need that he is the genuine article is that he has videos of just the drums with no back in track. How many people out there have the balls to cover a song this difficult and then give you the recording of just them playing? Very few Also, yeah, he looks like he gained 25 lbs of muscle between this and his previous vid. DUDES JACKED

This song is about being older and trying to prove yourself and perform like when you were young and spry. Kind of ironic to cover this song to show you can keep up with Danny who is in his 60s. My daughter and I saw Tool a year ago and Danny played for well over an hour with this intensity. He is the GOAT.

Gracious reaction Andrew, as always. JQs covers are top notch. If you've never seen his Rosetta Stoned dissection and cover you really should, and immediately. It's just that fucking good, fair dinkum must watch TV. All of his covers off the Fear Inoculum album were great, his production and packaging definitely took a step forward. Those bulbs reflecting off the floor toms, very tasty! Like you said also, Tool is notoriously camera shy, so quality footage of Danny pounding out these hits is rare and hard to get ahold of. John's videos have given many of us a look at how a lot Danny's stuff is played. And a much greater appreciation for some favorite old tunes. Hearing John explain the preparation, difficulties, and effort that goes into recording one of these intricate covers is incredibly insightful as well. The real treat for me at least though, was his bringing to light some of the little things that Danny does in his work that set him apart from the average human. Rare is the artist that explains himself to the layman! So it's really cool to be able to pick up on things that you would otherwise miss. Watch the deconstruction first and then the performance and tell me that isn't the coolest shit you've seen in a hot minute, I dare you. Links follow and thanks for posting! deconstruction kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3mopJakiN20nag.html cover kzread.info/dash/bejne/nat6q5Nmos2rpbA.html

Can anyone smarter than me break down the math of the drum part at 14:35. I've listened to this song hundreds of times but not a drummer or musician so never understood that section. It's mindblowing, but i'm sure there's some math to the kicks that matches with theme of the song. Appreciate it!

Hey man. I'm a drummer and jam this song with friends often. No brag, just for context. Lol. That section you're referring to is the only part of the track where I lose the drum pattern. There's still the same "8 counts of 7 beats" but I can only seem to remember the first phrase. So I play that phrase, play 7 more bars of 7beats, then kick into the next cool riff that is also 7 beats. It's all 7 beats lol So I can't give you the pattern; I'm not even sure ther is one. I decode Meshuggah songs and still haven't heard one in that part lol. But I CAN tell you to keep counting in 7 and try and memorize eight different phrases. Which sucks. Lol. It's like BADA BABUM BUM BADA BABUM BUM BADABUMBADABUM BUM ETC

The phrase for the main riff is 3 bars of 7/4, so what Danny does throughout the song is play a phrase in his right hand accenting every 3rd beat (So... like a 6/8ish?) over the 7/4, and then it just lines back up at the top of the 3 bar phrase.
