Love your commentary on this guy. I've read that hes a stickler for perfection in the studio and refuses to use triggers and tries to impact every hit equally so that producers have little work. Great drummer with so much style

Chris Turner is from another planet. You should check out his most recent video of him recording for I Am Abomination. There’s even a separate behind the scenes vid that was done (I believe by Sabian) that talks about how hard and accurately he hits.

Yes, I believe I watched it. Hes obsessed with not using triggers or anything digitally for improvement and tries to make every hit equal. He also has to do everything in 1 take to perfection to be pleased with it.

Repost from a previous video. 😁 How about a reaction to Matt Horn from The Word Alive performing Hounds of Anubis. There are two great videos out there, one being a live video where drums are isolated and one where he seems to be playing at home. The latter would probably be a good starting point so you can hear the whole musical range of the song. Cheers!

Great video, as always! I'd love to see you react to Aric Improta again, playing through one of his songs with Night Verses. If you want a truly live video, check out his playthrough of No.0, but his playthroughs of Copper Wasp, Vice Wave, and Earthless are incredible, too (the last one being my personal favorite).

As someone who barely understands music theory (might be generous to say that I know the basics lol), I also can't help but wonder what goes in to writing these drum parts. It's gotta be 1000 notes broken up into 100 segments condensed into 3-4 minutes lol. If you watch Chris Turner's face while he's playing it's like you can see that he is straight up seeing the notes in his mind's eye scrolling past his face like he's playing rockband. Dude has some of the most intense focus I've ever seen.
