Hey Andrew.....Have checked out The Warning at TEDX University of Nevada in 2017 .... Singing ....Survive Live......A Awesome Performance.....when Pau snaps Her Drum Stick and Carries on like True Seasoned Veteran Profesional Drummer.......So Awesome to Watch Mate.. . .💯👍

Ya know... I watched this last night for the first time.. And i could do Nothing but just be Amazed.. Paulina is Absolutely Phenomenal.. And to be honest at one point during the video, i shed a tears of happiness for Paulina.. This is such a HUGE accomplishment in her life at this age and i wish nothing but success for her in her drumming career..

you cut it off before seeing her clap for herself at the very end, it's so cute it melts your heart!

Every time I'm having a bad day, I watch little Pau playing drums and I'll smile for the rest of the week :)

Learning Pau's personality from all the Instagram Lives and other things they've done during the pandemic to keep contact with their fans and grow their relationships with their fan base, I can confidently say, this would make Pau scream with excitement to hear that :)

This just reinforces what a great drummer Pau is and what a great drummer and teacher you are Rooney. The Warning Cave's whole front wall is a mirror to improve their performance, stage presence etc.

What also makes this great is that in an interview Pau said that one of the video recorders stopped working during the 1st take and she got a little emotional, as any 10 year old would because she didn't think she could do it again, so her my stayed in the room to give her support. If you notice you will see a foot in upper left corner. That's her mom.

As a father of 2 girls, I have nothing but a heart full of pride & happiness for them, in all things they conquer. That exact same feeling, always pounds through my chest, for DPA. I have rooted for them since the first time I heard/seen them. They give, give, and give to us all, without ever asking for a single thing. My respect factor for the entire family, and crew, is cranked to 11. 🤘⚡🤘

In a recent video, shot from behind her, Pau rides with her right hand on a cymbal at about 1 o'clock, then she crosses her left hand under her right arm and plays floor tom with her left hand.

Aside from the skills here, it is fun to see her showing off a bit-she doesn’t do that very much these days. I believe she does not want to distract people from their songs. She’s also doesn’t throw in a lot of fills for the same reason. Pau is greatly inspired by Neil Peart, who once was quoted about the importance of the silences, of the notes that are not played. Particularly when she was a teenager that impressed me a lot; young rock performers usually are much more into showing off.

Starting off with a natural talent and rhythm like Paulina I can only imagine how much joy her drum/music teachers and parents must feel seeing her now almost 10 years later seeing her utilizing all those years of work into the amazing drummer/musician/singer she is today. When I was 10, the only talent I had was rollin around in the dirt, ya gotta have a passion for somethin ! But great observations Andrew

This cover was inspired by Cobus. She saw a video of him ding this in his own style and said I want to do that. It took her a year of practice before this video was shot. The warning band do in fact have a full wall mirror at one end of this practice room, and for just the reason you mentioned. They can see how they would appear on stage, but also to help with communicating with each other. Paulina does play barefoot, but not every song. In some concert videos you can see before a particular song begins, she quickly strips off shoes and socks.

Neat reaction video. I think its great to get some insight from someone who knows their stuff. Btw, I loved your "Oh what" reaction when she started to do the crossovers. (If I've got the term right.) PS FWIW but in a recent photo of The Warning, taken on stage just after they'd finished their set opening for The Foo Fighters, Pau is in her stocking feet.

For longer sets she does go barefoot. There's video of her taking her shoes and socks off between songs, she gets her shoes off but then starts the next song (she controls the backing tracks) and then takes off her socks all while hitting the kick drum. I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember that she had to re-record this, as she had played it perfectly, but there was an issue with the first recording, showing at a young age, her strength of spirit and also why she is so happy at the end. Also am I correct that she is playing a full size drum kit and that this is unusual for a kid and makes me wonder how her arms could reach around to the cymbals while going into octopus mode. HEHE! 😉

That observation about girls with a dancing background makes a lot of sense, actually. Both dancing and drumming requires extensive coordination of different movements. Dancers (and martial artists) have a well-developed kinetic memory and are able to learn a set of movements at a fraction of the time than us 'normal' folks. I saw an interview with a director some time ago who told of a looong action sequence where one of his actresses had to deliver a 3 minute fighting sequence and she nailed it in one take. The actress was Summer Glau, she is a trained Ballet dancer since childhood. I like your reactions a lot. Not a drummer though (my Dad was), 'simple' Bassist, me.

This was before she had a pile of wood splinters around the kit from broken sticks. 😄 Still pretty raw at that age compared to say Yoyoka (my gold standard for 10 year olds), but then Yoyoka started playing when she was only 3 or 4 years old. Interesting observation about the correlation between dance rhythm and drumming ability - you might be onto something there. I wonder how well Yoyoka dances. 👍😎

I thought the same thing with the dance/ drum relation. I was a ballet dancer from age 4 to 16 years old. I'm guessing that's why I'm able to somewhat play the drums without any natural talent or drum lessons.

It should ALSO be noted that she's the primary musical genius behind this trio, she starts the composition of most of their songs, music and lyrics, collaborating with Dany and Ale to work out guitar and bass parts, and she ALSO runs the show from her stool, with a laptop running Ableton Live, which she has programmed with their entire set list for each show. They are currently half way through their first North American tour, the "MAYDAY 2022 Tour" and they are killing it at every stop, 28 shows in six weeks before teaming up with Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless later in the summer. Finally, for those who don't know, The Warning was selected to open for the Foo Fighters in Mexico City in one of Taylor Hawkins's last shows. To understand what Dave Grohl thinks of The Warning, understand that he gave them a 40-minute opening set in front of 60,000 fans, and the crowd went wild over them.

Andrew, I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I have a few random thoughts. The Warning is my favorite band, so I'm glad you are open to listening to drummers in their amateur stages. Pau singing the song "Dust to Dust" while drumming was what made me a fan of the band, and I'm not a fan of most hard rock music. I also was not a fan of heavy percussion, and I never paid attention to drummers in bands (no offense) until I watched Pau. Now I do listen to drummers, and I find most of them boring compared to Pau (call me a fanboy if you wish). You mentioned Pau drumming barefoot. She does do that, but she has also played in heels (check out "Survive" from the band's TEDx concert). Pau has always played drums on an adult-sized kit, which may explain why she is such a powerful drummer. She is small as an adult (5 feet tall), so I can only imagine how hard she had to hit the drums to generate the sound she wanted when she was a child. Excluding the tambourine and cow bells, Pau has a 13 piece kit in this video. I'm not a musician, but that seems like a full kit for a small child. I believe she now plays with a 14 piece kit , including two hi-hats. As a drummer, I suspect you may enjoy watching The Warning opening for The Killers: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoCKsMihYpWsiM4.html There is some great footage of Pau beating the drums into submission starting at 21:25. Her timing, sure, but what really gets me is her dynamic control already - so many younger drummers have none, she's really good at it even back then, knew not to overpower the softer parts.

After having watched this many times, only now am I recognizing that Pau has 5 toms...and I'm wondering if she has permanently removed the 14"? In her latest rig rundown she only tours with a 10, 12, 16 & 18 inch toms. Or does she still have the 14" at her home studio kit?

This girl has never not known where her "one" is. Surreal.
