Lots have people have mentioned that this is an older video, but it's an even older song. The song Forget Not was one of the earliest songs the band wrote, pre-dating their first album by quite a few years. It's about the loss of friends - it's where their band name comes from too as Ne Obliviscaris (pronounce 'Nay Ob-liv-ee-scar-iss") is latin for 'Forget not' or 'Don't forget'. It's deliberately quite repetetive on the instrumentation because it's meant to be quite contemplative, only really changing up section to section, rather than within each passage. As others have said, definitely check out some of the stuff from their 2nd album onwards, where Dan's really let loose and has much greater confidence with filling out each section. The band is awesome, particularly live!

While this is one of my favorite NeO songs, it's one of the least impressive play-throughs by Dan. It showcases some of his creativity, and certainly his precision, but not nearly as much as some of his more intricate songs. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend going through his play-throughs of Urn (he's done a ton of play-throughs, which is fantastic). There are others, but I would absolutely start with Urn.

Dan can do what alot aspire to do but, to me it seems like every song he plays it's just endurance training. He has the speed, endurance, and cleanliness but his fills seem bland. Used to follow him on ig and all it was constant double with linear 8th note fills. He's an amazing metronome.

Bland is exactly the word I’m finding to describe this drummer lol. Fast, Consistent, but lacks creativity

Nice work as always Andrew. Would love to see peoples reactions to the extreme metal master: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKB4udqQfbfJito.html If you do check out after the playthrough ends, he goes through his cymbals and has a pair of incredible custom bells the size of rides.

It’s just prog (because that means anything these days). Dan is phenomenal, as is Ne Obliviscaris.

This doesn’t really feel like a prog song to me. I would say prog is more like Haken, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Symphony X, Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Opeth, Pink Floyd, or even some songs of The Beatles

No. This was a HORRIBLE introduction to how amazing he is. Watch his video for Intra Venus. He is SO much more incredible than this song. If you want to see how good he Really is watch Intra Venus

Hot in New Zealand?? Now?? January?? WtF? Go to swimming?? I'm gettin on the plane and come there !! Maybe some volcano became to explode soon and that cause the hot ??That band maybe believes Opeth now it became to give up playing and want to replace them to fullfill the emptyness without a band like Opeth...Is a myth or a fact?? But i think they have too many influences from Opeth maybe the early years of Still Life and Deliverance with one smell of now extreme Death Speed Metal. Is one nice band in music for sure i don't analyse the Lyrics so i can't say something!

Very powerful and consistent drumming, but I feel like it kinda lacks creativity. Not much Dynamics and the light cymbals session didn’t really has great choice when to hit. Anyway, double kick speed and blast beat consistency is beyond human and the hand closing hihat part is very manly lol

Alas this is is literally the most boring and unimpressive video of Dan performing. He is such a beast and this video doesn't give him enough credit.
