I can see your young, so it is impressive you have developed this level and skill. Don’t listen to critics. Real drummers like to share and lift up other drummers, especially someone who who has great skill, a good ear and amazing potential.

@@Truthspeaker_14 yes. According to Merriam-Webster: Truth = the body of real things, events, and facts. Also a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality. Honesty - adherence to the facts: fairness and straightforwardness of conduct. As I stated, the player is young. Regardless of what you think of his play, I believe there is raw potential there and I hope he is not deterred by comments such as yours. Does he need work? Absolutely and I hope he seeks it out. I for one, would be happy to assist him if he wishes. Which causes me to wonder why you insulted him as “mediocre”, and if you are as good as you claim, how is it you missed this opportunity to offer him encouragement. I remind you of the children’s fable about the ‘tortoise and the hare”. Be careful young rabbit. You don’t want to be caught napping only to be awoken by someone surpassing you.

@@haroldmorgan8718 I am probably only a year or two older than this dude, and have been drumming over 10 years. He plays at a similar level I did as a 14 year old. Nothing wrong with truth and honesty. The main purpose of the criticism was to save the stage time for drummers who are clearly better rather than the mediocrity here who clearly needs practice.

Jay Kaylo has chops for days. The 80s Yamaha RCs (with mismatched floor tom) he's kicking are impressive too. Are the heads cranked tight, or are there drum triggers on a quick decay to shorten the overtones that big resonant drums like 12x12 rack toms produce? On his channel Kaylo plays smaller sized Yamahas so the gear here may be the house drums at some venue.

All the KZread hyperactive chops monsters display their acquired-by-rote-practice mega-chops in a framework of rather unremarkable, conventional music. Prolonged showboating solos over chord changes quickly become boring. What is especially interesting is new music which is beyond category, that challenges our notions of what we think music is. In this context, I have yet to see a "drumming instruction" video on KZread that addresses the techniques & approaches required for playing in free time.

@@Groov3lab "KZread hyperactive chops monster" & "showboater" are not pejorative terms, they're just the way some people decide to present themselves. Buddy Rich was a chops monster showboating drummer & he was one of the all time greats. The young gentleman in this video is obviously a pro, I'm not "judging him off on [I believe you meant to write 'one'] performance," I said that prolonged solos over conventional chord changes quickly become boring. As Bill Bruford pointed out, drummers are in a situation now where their advanced skill level is not properly contextualized by commercial music, so they end up en mass at Vic Firth Drum Offs soloing at each other. Drummers who have especially interested me are not known for playing inverted paradiddles at a gazillion miles an hour, but rather, they're drummers whose unique abilities were applied to new music: Sunny Murray, Tony Oxley, Paul Lytton, Mark Sanders, Mark Guiliana, to name a few. People who post KZread videos tend to be preoccupied with a commercial aesthetic. I'm interested in new music that is beyond category (i.e., beyond conventional marketing strategies) CHEERS.
