I will admit, you rolled the clip and I immediately googled iron cobra bass drum pedal

It's a killer pedal for sure! Just don't think you need it to play those doubles well

It’s a great pedal but not the end all be all. I’ve used iron cobras my whole life and its basically the only pedal I feel comfortable using but it’s not the pedal doing the work. As long as a pedal has a sturdy base and has a dual chain, you’re good. (Provided you’re a chain drive user, strap or direct drive are usually gonna be high quality anyways)

absolutely goated video, super eager to view more content revolving around zach. just tryna stay consistent and persistent out here with practicing single pedal doubles and being patient with it. not expecting to get to great speeds in just a year. giving myself two years to really see some exponential progress, but while that goes on, i’m gonna make sure that i do what zach does with the floor tom and tune it real low so i can practice and record stuff that compensates for the speed he has with the kick and just move some strokes to the floor tom instead.

Thanks Matt!! Your plan sounds realistic. You can pull some really sick patterns when that floor tom and bass drum can work together. Keep at it 💪🏻

On pedal talk. Just get any pedal that isn't the cheapo one that comes default. DW 7000 and above, tama speed or iron cobra or dyna sync, mapex falcon or such, Yamaha FP of whatever its called etc. Any decent name brand pedal will be good. Which ever pedal feels best for you (go to your local drum store and try out pedals). See if you're a barefoot or shoe player. And also see what technique is most natural (slide, heel toe, whatever the one where you move your ankle side to side is called) and pick a pedal accordingly.

That was all solid advice. Watching your foot, it's obvious that you've worked hard! I say watching, because the sound quality was meh. And that sucks because you clearly worked on, and developed some nice chops. I'm not sure if/how you mic your kit, but there's virtually no attack. That works for certain styles of music, but when demonstrating speed, attack is the most important sound characteristic. An easy fix is to use the flat plastic half instead of the felt half of the beater. That would help make those doubles really pop. Hope I didn't come across as a jack-ass 😂. Your info was spot on, but the example was lost in translation, tough to hear.

Johan, All good, not coming across as a jack-ass. I actually prefer the felt side of the beater for feel. At this point it is so worn down it's essentially all plastic. The mic job here was poor. I'm learning as I go! Same thing I've been doing on the drums/guitar/recording since I was in high school. Thanks for the watch and comment. Appreciate you!

Is keep your kit lower a helper with those technique? I’ve always noticed Zachs is low and so is yours

I think it really depends on your play style. I choose my height based on where my arms/legs naturally lie. I am self taught, so measure my advice. Try different heights and see how it changes your motions!
