Not a sailor. Not Irish. Have no tattoos. Just a broken & lost 35 y.o. man. But just every word in this song resonates deep inside of me. 2 years ago on this day I lost my little brother to suicide. My brother and I tried to stop him right up to the very end... I sit here weeping, typing this out listening to this song on loop thinking about him. We both tattooed his name on us and wear him on our arms til our dying day. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. Thank you Dropkick Murphy for making this amazing and wonderful song. I've since moved on from MA. DKM will always be a love of mine. I've partied with them. I've moshed with them. I've seen random off shows in punk clubs. I've bought tickets to random showings that were on drives back from somewhere. DKM is my love affair in music. Always there when I'm away from home and always a good time. Love these dudes until the grave.

Almost 8 years my grandma's been gone. She was my best friend for many years, and she was a proud Irish woman. It's been almost a year since I've gotten a tattoo to honor her memory; a sapphire (her birthstone) in the middle of a purple rose (her favorite flower).

I am from Crossmaglen up in South Armagh and I left for the states cause i was sick of the state the north was and is in, I dont really like the American Irish bands especially the Fenians . But I also dont like Celtic Punk like how the Murphys take a folk song and put it into some punk format. Personally the best American Celtic band is Schooner Fare out of Maine. I also hate certain things about Plastic Paddies like the fact that they drink Irish Car Bombs on St. Pádraig's day or how they yell Tiocfaidh ár lá! when they hear someone sing something as simple as Rattlin Bog. All in all this song is class and I like it and I can see where the Paddy you met got all fondered but hey sometimes you got to sit back and let people be happy. My condolences on your loss 😢 I have my wife's name translated into Quenya & written by her own hand in Tengwar script tattooed on my left forearm. COVID nearly took her in 2021 & she'll be on permanent disability the rest of her life. Our 25th Anniversary is in September.

I sent my grandpa this song in 2013, he was about 85 then. He said it reminded him of going to O'Leary's in St. Paul Minn way back in the day. I hope he rests in peace, I still listen to this song a lot.

my Dad who has passed this year always played this song, at his funeral my mom played this song. Brought me to tears. When we were lowering him down a big eagle soar through the skies above us. We are Native American btw. I cried when that bird appeared a spiritual sign he was with us I had to graduate jr high without him....I'm ranting sorry..

My grandmother passed away back in February of 2015, and was of a very proud Irish heritage that she passed along to her children, and their children. She was of the old school, but, even she had a tattoo of a long-stemmed, red rose that she got later on in life. This song reminds me of her every time I hear it, and it's hard not to cry when I hear this song for that reason. I'm sorry to say that I only recently became a fan of the incredible Dropkick Murphys, and so I have only recently learned of this song, but I have become utterly obsessed with this song. LoL This song does, unfortunately, remind me that she's not with us anymore, but I know I'll see her again, so, don't feel sorry for either of us. LoL With tears streaming down my face as I write this, I just want to express how much I love this song. It seems that we with Irish blood in our veins carry a constant sadness with us that seems revived with every hearing of songs that reflect the lands and loves of that great emerald isle that bore us all, directly and indirectly. But, the strength that resides in that same blood is a shield at times against that sadness and the sorrows that come from simply being an inhabitant of this cruel earth and the atrocities we as humans perpetuate onto it. I am proud to be a child of Ireland, and to be counted amongst those aligned with that great nation and people, if for no other reason than the fact that we make some of the best music on the planet. LoL So, yeah - I love this song. :)

KamikaziRainDrop My dad passed away few years ago. I know what it feels like, at first it's like a punch to your chest and you cry a lot but after few years you can think her with a huge smile on your face cuz you remember how much you really love her and how many great moments you shared together. And I also almost cry every time when I listen to this song cuz it's so beautiful and it brings great memories to my mind. After few years you can listen to this song and be sad but also very very happy at the same time. This reminds my about my dad but just think those happy moments so you really can enjoy the song. Btw sorry for my bad English cuz I'm Finnish and because I'm only thirteen I have studied English only three years. And I wanna say that you clearly loved and still love your grandma very much. And I also love this song :)

The love of my life was named Rose, I was never so close to anybody or as happy as I was with her. She died tragically at 31 years old and turn my life upside down. This song and album came out a month after she was taken from me.Needless to say, It's hard to get through the song with dry eye.

Lost my mom just a month ago. She was suffering in the hospital while I was at sea. The pandemic made it so difficult for me to go back home but I'm glad I made it before she died. I was able to tell her how much she means to me and how much I love her, said our goodbyes and shared kisses Next week im getting a rose tattoo with her name on it. I love you mom.

14 and a half years I lost my grandmother, the remainder of her ashes got buried today right next to her mom and dad. RIP Robert Gillespie Coppinger, Lola Lois Hazelwood Coppinger and Karla Jean Young. Anyone in Cork County in Ireland that sees this stop by Coppinger Court and let my family know I'm thinking of them today.

Some punk fans may disagree with me, but the ONLY genre of music that is equally, if not more pure and true to its audience and artists than punk is country. Not that "pop country" that's popping up, but the true, blue-grass rooted country music. Down home people making down home music; pure and simple.
