Been fishing straight 20 pound braid on my drop shot big hook no leader. Clear water and in all the rivers here in Virginia no drag streaght flipping them all in no problem. No more problems no more missed fish. Thanks again for sharing all you do. Late.

I'll sometimes use the VMC spinshot hooks open or EWG wide gap so I can tie a lighter leader line for my weight if I'm losing a lot of them

Great video! Question……drop shotting brush piles in open water which setup would you use? I haven’t tried the Texas Rig option just been setting off to the edge. Do you think I would have better success dropping in the middle with TR?

@@JustinLucasFishing I’m going to give it a try. Are you fishing vertical or you like a little angle and give them some space?

Looks like a great way to tie a hook for drop shotting. Wondering if one puts the line thru the hook from the other side of the hook, will it then be up instead of down?

  • @JustinLucasFishing

Maxscent flat worm is tough to beat on an open hook and any kind of 6” straight tail on Texas rig.

Does the drop shot work effectively in the Winter? And, should I shorten my leader in the Winter. I'm in the cold Northeast. Thanks.

  • @JustinLucasFishing

It does work great in the winter. Honestly it’s a year round technique. I like a 12” weight to hook leader in winter.

What is x9 used for? I figured x5 was bait caster line so not ball up in reel. They make x5 and x9 but never heard anyone talk about x9. Thanks

@@JustinLucasFishing thanks for clarifying that. I follow all i can find of David Fritts, im on fence with fishing braid for crankbaits, typically bring extra reels just in case without braid. Reason i asked is Fritts says x5 for baitcaster, but ive heard him make mistakes in podcasts many times, think he mis speaks. Example he called fusion 19 hooks fusion 13.

@@JustinLucasFishing sorry, but if your chain is only as strong as your weakest link. Why not just use all flip? That would increase sensitivity. Right. I am too old to tournament fishing anymore. I use to back in the day on a local level. Back in the day of flashers. We didn’t have these gadgets and scientific data to go by. While I do have some of the newer side scan stuff. I mostly use them to find my way back to a boat ramp I still don’t do to bad.

I’ve been doing braid to fluorocarbon for 15-16 years now and have never had an issue doing it this way plus I definitely get more bites. Just my two cents.
