Drop shotting hair jigs for smallies is an underrated technique. You can also replace the dropshot weight with a finesse jig.

I remember I was using a Ned rig instead of a drop shot weight, I missed one on the drop shot bait then next cast I caught him on the Ned rig below it
Thanks Tyler....I just started using the drop shot at the end of last season and looking forward to using it this upcoming fishing season. This was super helpful!
That's some great stuff Tyler. I have just recently added a permanent drop shot set-up to my arsenal and can't imagine not having one every time I go out. However, I'm definitely guilty of your first topic. I cast out and twitch that bait all the way back to the boat. I have had pretty good success with that....but what if smoothing that bait back to boat gets me more? I will definitely be trying that out the next time I'm on the water. Thanks! And also, thanks for jumping right into your topics. As someone who watches a lot of KZread fishing videos, it drives me crazy when people spend the first 5 minutes of a 10 minute video telling people to subscribe and hit the like button, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I appreciate it when others jump right in like you're doing.
Thanks for the tips and techniques. Thanks for taking time making the videos!
Great tips, thank you very much !
Thanks for the information. A few illustrations of the tackle you are describing would be helpful for some of us newbie’s.
I learned a lot.Thank you for the video
Awesome information thank you
Dude, You hit this on 100% everything you touched on is key to being efficient at drop shot fishing. I do seminars on this and these are key points that I feature, especially for beginners. I learned from Aaron before he left us, Ike and Shaw. Great info Sir👍
Excellent video (Again). Took 12 place a while back on the wolf River up north. All of my fish were caught on a drop shot robo worm. I am curious, what size hook do you use with your robo worms?
For me I've found that a 3/16oz cylindrical weight on 6lb test fluoro works best with most baits

So, if you're fishing in the Winter when the bass want less action on a bait, would it be better to use a heavier weight? You said a heavier weight will limit the baits action. Thanks

Hi Tyler...I drop shot Roboworm MM the majority of the time and dead sticking it. It gets bit all the time. Great show
6:43 in relation to the roboworm color reference the MW3 is a phenomenal color up north here in idaho, also I really like the PB&j
Great video thank you for this.
Do you recommend a shorter or longer leader from bait to weight in the Winter to keep the bait closer to the bottom? Talking 40 degree water. Thanks
Thanx Tyler. You didn't get on the flat worm ban wagon? They sure seem to like it. Any experience with other straight tail worms. The Zoom finesse has put a few bass inthe boat and the trick worm has caught some largemouth and big smallies.

That was an April fools joke man!
I started using a drop shot when I just started out fishing from shore for smallies. Man you are right. Being patient with and just letting sit there feeling the bottom is the only way to fish it. BYW Berkeley max scent minnow is the best by far drop shot ever. Best place to find em is at Walmart.
Great info in the shorter videos style! 👌👍
Thx great tip. I know I’m way too restless when drop shot fishing. Need some therapy for sure before I nail this art of fishing 😂

Nothin like good old regurgitated, basic, common, industry norm info. "I see a lot of guys..." "I get a Lotta questions about"... no. No you don't. You watch a lot of KZread videos and repeat what you hear. Even telling stories that other guys have told and re branding them as your own.
Great video dude really enjoyed it
The Drop Shot is one of my favorites, the heaviest weight I use is 1/4 oz.
Love it when you refer to Lake Champlain. That’s because I live right on its New York shoreline.
I am new in finesse fishing and drop shot that would be fantastic if you could show how you actually rig these up thanks
I keep a drop shot tied up all year round. Dedicated dobyns fury med light finesse rod always has a drop shot tied on. I agree 100% that too much action is a no-no. I usually throw it right up near grass lines or near cover where fish are being picky and let it sit. Once I learned to be patient and barely move that thing at all, I changed my dropshot game. Robo worms, some tini jackal plastics, etc.. work so so well.

Get a better rod and you'll love it. I bought a Xtacy 752 for d/s.... The sensitivity is insane
Tyler info it would be helpful if you showed the baits . Thanks for sharing
Solid tip and awesome vid
When I started dropshotting was when I marked fish in 35'+. I didn't want a heavy weight to crash to the bottom, so I used...3/16. And I use 3/16 for everything from 10' to 40'. It can take 30-40 seconds to reach bottom so it wouldn't work in current.
On pressured waters, last year I experimented with drop shotting home made flies. Worked well!
If you ever come up to fish LSC this year, hit me up! If you have room on your boat I’ll go with ya.
Been using the roboworms for about a year and the margarita mutilator is by far the best one ive caught bass, bluegill and even catfish off it
I remember a day fishing with one of my buddies fairly early spring it wasn't a drop shot but a shaky head. All I was doing was sitting in the back of the boat feet up on the motor holding the pole literally dragging it with no action. I'm sure I out fished him that day 5 to 1.
2nd time drop shotting today. And what do I do? Yep lots of action and no bites. The first time was in 2016 and I thought screw it. Going to keep trying your way. Thanks
I used a drop shot many times camping but can’t seem to figure out when to use them around my home lakes.
I have caught many 5 to 8 pound bass on a drop shot. One year I caught a 5 pounder every day out with a drop shot.
Purple is my best soft plastic color for any style fishing
Love putting a 2.5" STH tube on a drop shot. Not sure what made me think to do it, but damn does it work.
i always fish a roboworm on my drop shots but i notice as it gets colder and i wanna dead stick it, the action isn’t great it just kind of hangs. do you let it sink to the bottom on slack line? or is this not a problem?
@TylerBergerFishing
4 ай бұрын
Yes I let it sink on a slack line
Dropshot is definitely my go to #1 confidence technique.
The largemouth bass in my neighborhood ponds love drop shot flukes
The bait looks like it’s getting electric shock treatment 😂
I know you're taking about bass bud. I dropshot for walleye. I always catch them on the jigging drop.
On the highland east Tennessee reservoirs where I live, no matter how light I go, I stay hung up.
freaking love dropshot.... wont go anywhere without them
Was co-angling a tournament this last weekend and my boater smokkkked me in the morning when we were both throwing similar baits on our dropshots. I started paying attention to what he was doing different and noticed he would just let it sit way longer than I ever would and he'd get bit during those long pauses over and over again. As soon as I slowed down I filled my bag and started culling. Honestly this is probably the same across a lot of techniques.
The fall rate sometimes has to do with getting bit when it's tough.
the professor has spoken...we take notes.
Try a wacky rigged ribbed blue 4 " french fry. Thank you Tyler!
Another thing is , don’t set the hook hard if not at all ! Sometimes just reeling it in sets it good enough! Plus tie a palomar knot . The new fancy not that makes the hook stick straight out is one of the weakest knots in fishing!

That’s no joke that knot gargles balls
Just started drop shotting. Wish I had started sooner. Margarita mutilator is 🔥🔥🔥
We only use 7 gram ones in uk never seen anyone use heavy weights to drop shots, its a finesse technique supposed to be lightweight and tactical
Tyler if you want a seriously killer dropshot bait and I mean better than anything I've seen from any major bait co. You need to check out paul krews custom baits, specifically his 3.5 deopshot minnow absolutely killer hand pour
M.M.III roboworm is 🔥with a 3/16oz. Teardrop weight
Definitely a technique I need to just tie on and leave everything else at home and dial it in and get some confidence.

I did this last year and ended up almost never skunking because of it. Seriously the Margarita Mutilator robo worm is awesome, followed by the June bug chartreuse for me. Also caught some of my biggest fish on it.

My fave drop shot bait was Jackall’s Cross Tail Shad. I noticed that Sail wasn’t carrying it this year in Canada … anyone know if they’ve been discontinued? It’s a shame if so, because it would be like crack to smallies!

Number of times he said drop shot? More than anyone has ever said in this amount of time lol good stuff man ill try lessening the action to see how it goes.
Don't sleep on using a heavy dropshot weight... on purpose.
1/4 is the key size. In cali that isn't even a question🤙
Ike says about the same, but a very wise old guy showed me that small mouth love pink.
