Drop Everything: Full Squaw Valley California Love Segment 4K
Спорт
Squaw Valley is a monument to snow sport films and culture. Matchstick director Scott Gaffney represents that tradition in Squaw as much as anybody. He took a moment to tell us about his vision in filming the Squaw segment for "Drop Everything."
"The number of legends who have called Squaw home is ridiculous, and I’d argue more movie segments and iconic shots have come out of Squaw’s inbounds terrain than anywhere in the world. But with the passage of time, it occurred to me that there are ripping kids who probably don’t even know who Scot Schmidt is. To me, that’s unacceptable. This mountain and the legends who cut their teeth here have had such a huge impact on our sport. I wanted to remind skiers of that with the Squaw segment in Drop Everything. I wanted to show how badass the Becks were in the 70s, and how crazy it is that what Scot Schmidt was doing 30 years ago still stands the test of time. I wanted to give just a quick little history lesson, and I wanted share Squaw’ legacy." - Scott Gaffney

I've been pretty lucky. Moved to Squaw in the early '80s. Lived with and met some really cool people and skied my butt off. Was never the skier that these guys were, but I got to watch all of them. Met Scot Schmidt, he was a friend of one of my roommates. Great guy. 15 years later I ran into him wavesailing out at Waddell Creek. Got to see him out there pretty often for a few years. Lot of fun. Like I said, I've been pretty lucky.
Local Squaw skier. Love the mountain and the attitude
That 360 Screamin’ at 3:35 is what it’s about! Underrated!

Thanks for reminding me why I can't ski squaw anymore.
First time at Squaw with some engineers from Silicon Valley... 1983.. First run 8:30am ..introduction to KT-22. First turns I stepped out of my bindings, Got a quarter out and tightened them way up.... FANTASTIC FULL DAY of Blasting runs... !!
this is a cool clip...I grew up in Reno and Squaw was always the king location. There was an intensity there that I couldn't explain when I was a kid.
I actually skied the palisades while some of this was being shot, was pretty rad. I wish I'd stuck around and watched more of it.
I live in Utah and this is even amazing to me. Man what an awesome all-commit send. Nowhere to burn-off speed, nowhere to go besides straight down :) SEND IT

My 2nd day ever on skis my Scout troop went to Squaw. My Scoutmaster talked me into riding up KT22. We got to the top and he ditched me. That was 42 years ago and I'm still skiing around 50 days a year. Ahhhhhhhhh!!
INCREDIBLE film. I bought this in 4K from iTunes! Amazing work :) Loving the Frankie Goes To Hollywood track :)
SQUAW! Not a damn thing wrong with the coolest name of a resort.
That's awesome. That place set the bar for all snow riding skis and boards.
One of the best, one of my favorites ski footage....just blows my mind, makes as for miracles.......i want to be one of them, in my next life...these guys are unreal skiers!!!!!! hats off!!!!
5:17 WTF thats the sickest biggest backflip i have ever seen
Back when there was snow
Excellent video. Pacing, content and overall production values. I'm all in. Subscribed.
Awesome!!!
Next level.
FKNA! Feel privileged just to have been there to see some of it in person.
One of my favorite places to ski with all the best skiers in the world too. 70,d and 80,s was the time of my life .
The multi award winning film HOTDOG was filmed here
2:54 - 2:58 gives me goosebumps!
Liitle did they know Ross would become a ski legend
Yeah, but people like Schmidt were the pioneers. These types of guys were the ones that went were virtually no one went before. Amazing.
Scott skied those lines on 210s 80 under foot!!! Ha
I love Squaw! The only downside is somehow, this entire place is skied out in about an hour on a pow day... You only get one drop in on the face of granite before it's chewed up! It's still the best drop in of my life though and better than 10 pow runs anywhere else. That and chair lifts are often over an hour on powder days, even in the middle of the week.

Becks rock is owned by Steve Mc Kinney!
I miss Shane....
Year '88- 89. I was the first lift op to jump the Fingers. After that the more I jump the more people said I was the best from Toas, New Mexico.
that's more jump than corbet
Same family. Actually. Add IRC .
inverted aerials not allowed
Bigger! Riskier! Adrenialenier! Peoplepleasier! It's insanity! (I still like watching them, though) odaat
Windhold Mountain. apparently its the place to be if you like to do backflips off everything with Zero style.
Squaw is the king. new ownership cant take care of the mountain anymore to keep it operating. night skiing is now gone indefinitely what a shame. no more free shuttles either from reno casinos. foreigners took over the mountain and lost their hearts to money. no money could ever replace squaw valley but now its too expensive and now they cant even fully operate the mountain
I was on the Squaw Valley ski team in 6th grade ('85-'86) & now I make my own backcountry pow' riding videos that can lead you out of skiing idolatry & into eternal Life ~ faithandaction.net.

The Bay Area people ruined squaw
Wow. This really shows the effects of climate change. There was just as mush snow back then as there is now. Wow!!
I'll still take Snowbird, Jackson, or Alta over Squaw. Squaw is just the #1 resort for narcissists. Much better skiing at the other 3.
