First Chair on KT-22 After a 7-Foot Storm

This storm was a fun one! The morning was pretty exciting but also a little nerve racking. Unfortunately the east winds rolled through the night before and made the snow a lot more dense, so it ended up skiing more like 1ft even though it snowed 7ft. The whole morning while we were waiting in line patrollers were telling us not to send anything big because they thought we would get buried. Ended up taking a mellower run than I intended because of that, but needless to say, it was still epic!

    Don't see many people riding Blizzard Spurs! I picked up a pair for myself after (permenantly) losing a thinner pair in deep powder, and vowing to never ski bad skis in powder again. The spurs are a great ski. Cool to see you're ripping them.

    I've never skied the west, but I was thinking something similar. then he got into the grooming lane and it was like one line surrounded by 3' banks! 😅 i get so nervous watching these first person views of anyone in deep stuff atop cliffs. so completely foreign to "skiing" to me. and I was skiing since 4yo. 😆

  • @danb.709

    @danb.709

    3 ай бұрын

    @@daneg that's one thing many young or new skiers don't seem to quite get. It sounds good in a video title and probably gets views, but it's not acually that deep because it's so dense. It doesn't matter if it's 7 feet deep if it's the consistency of cake frosting, it might as well be 6 inches. It's still really fun, but not legendary. You'd be fine to ski it, you might not even need wider skis. There is legendary powder that is kneck deep while you are skiing through it, almost like flying through a cloud. It is very very fun, quite rare, also very dangerous. It requires big skis, lots of experience and some serious endurance, also an equally capable partner. Good goal to work towards but baby steps. Lots of people show up on a day like that and can barely get down the mountain, they have an absolutely terrible day. Don't be that guy, work up to it, but also don't be afraid of that super thick stuff, it doesn't require the same high level of skill or demand the same level of fear and respect. It's a good way to work up to stuff that's actually deep.
