I knew the refugee group personally, helped with everything I could, even though we are not the wealthiest. Half a year ago, when I met a couple of people from the group, they proudly told me how it was going: they receive a payment, they can additionally work up to 19 hours a week while maintaining social benefits, and those who have already found a house for rent, their rent is covered by the state. The refugee woman has already SAVED 30k euros. SAVED!!! Meanwhile, we pay everything ourselves - rent, bills and I've never had a medical card... A smart refugee has already opened her own business, that is, they have money and a lot of free time, and so she opened a travel agency, for Ukrainians ONLY, because other countries also give some credits to those who's travelin from UA around the world.

We have a language, clan family names that identify us, we have heritage, land and resources, and nobody else has the right to tell us we aren’t an indigenous group according to the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples. Our land has been inhabited by indigenous Irish for at least 12,500 years that has been researched, however we have been dispossessed of our history that goes back further because historians apparently reckon tools found that were over 30,000 years old were dropped here by an ice sheet, which of course is a nonsense way of taking our history and ownership of this land away from us. What they never, ever mention is the turnover rate of these places. Is it 500 every 3 months, 6 months 1 year? The original 500 will move on elsewhere and be replaced by the next 500 but how often on average is this happening? Even if was on average twice per year, in 5 years you have 5,000. What is the target? What is the limit? Does it ever stop? 20 years could be 20,000 or more in Drogheda alone.

@@noelogara1 Firstly, the bar and restaurant is still open to the public. Secondly, the rooms aren't being made exclusive to non nationals. If they take in their share of asylum seekers and there's vacant rooms, I'm sure they'd be made available to the public. So, I don't think there'd be grounds for a legal challenge. I'm not defending it by the way. I think it's disgraceful. I'm outraged by it. I'm just making the point that I don't think anyone would get anywhere going down that route. It's still providing accommodation, the bar/restaurant is still open to the public, so is the function room, and the rooms technically are too if there's vacancies. I'm sure the government has made sure to cover their arses on that front.

Micheal Martin stated yesterday that a contract was signed. Leaving the bar and restaurant open was just a sop to the locals but they wouldn't go in there anyway. Leitrim CC have stopped a similar crime in Dromahair. It's before the HC now. I think the executive branch of our deviant government could find themselves out of step with the judiciary whose job is to protect the citizens of the Republic according to the constitution. The CC need a strong barrister to be in the HC in a few days. Get an interim injunction for non compliance with the planning and that will bring it to a head. Is it a hotel or a hostel? The impact on services, schools, dentists, tourism, taxis, everything will be detrimental to the town. Social unrest and serious crime is inevitable. The judge will have to take the hit publicly, if he tries to pervert the law with double speak. Put him in the hot seat and if he refuses, then hit the Supreme court with it. If that fails its time to take cover.

Never in the history of Ireland's existence have we needed an election and a change of government so badly. After the Celtic Tiger era, take a minute to remember that Fine Gael romped home in the elections on the back of promises to undo the damage Fianna Fáil did in bankrupting the country. Christ Almighty look at us now. Our criminal justice system is a shambles. The HSE is a mess. Hospitals are overrun. Irish nurses leaving the country in their droves. The cost of housing and living has exploded. Tourism is suffering due to lack of accommodation. And clearly our immigration policies are being abused wide scale. Every single thing Fine Gael has touched in government is now in disarray. It's disgraceful. I love Ireland. My family originate from Galway, and I lived and worked there for a number of years in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. I'm from Northern England and quite honestly working in Dublin back then saved me from the drudge of low paid dead end jobs in the north of England and set me up eventually to returning with a trade and some money in my bank. I have a lot to be thankful for and Ireland was a godsend. Loved the culture and people, and did my utmost to partake in stuff like GAA and feis. Went for a holiday in the north last year, after not going over for a few years, and was surprised just how much has changed for the worst. I won't be parting with my hard earned for a repeat trip this year, I'm afraid. Depressing doesn't even cover it.

It truly is insane. Just a quick note, the Fianna Fail owners of the hotel will receive aprox. 30 million euro's over 2 years.

That owner of that hotel said and I quote he got an offer he cudnt refuse, all about the money and greed, it's a two year contract, I rest my case!!!!!! 😮😮😮😮

May need to boycott the appropriate people and families who are most involved in this - not just here but anywhere else similar things are happening.

Boycott that kip, it was always only a 2 star hotel at best obviously with friends in the hotel grade system overcharging tourists.

He bought it last year for 11 million euro and will now get 1.5 million euro per month from his plantation. All his money back in 12 months - crazy stuff!

Simple way to sort that out. Stop using hotels and guest houses that operate these premises.

They are part of the problem.

The hotel's contract is for two years. Now let's say each room's occupants/family are housed among the general community in four months. There would be six sets of occupants/families over the 24-month contract period to be housed. So, 500 x 6 = 3000 people would pass through this hotel over the 2 years, equivalent to maybe 113 x 6 = 678 housing units. Since, in time, they'll be bringing in other members of their extended family, those homes would have to be extra large (and have high-speed broadband like they'll be used to!). The HSE and schools will be further stretched as was pointed out. Things are moving at an astonishing pace and this country will already look different from today by the time of the next election.

Crazy for those people living in Drogheda.

Make sure u do not vote for any of the political parties in the dail ..they are the ones calling concerned parents/ grandparents far right / racist… vote independents/ IFP/ farmers alliance/ Ireland first 👍

We've had the electoral fight back over the pond back in 2009 when over a million Brits in the North West of England voted for an alternative party that wasn't part of the Establishment set up. What happened? Media harassment, councils banning use of meeting venues, new regulations brought in to curtail their activity, establishment crony groups attacking members homes and families. If you partake in a rigged system, don't be surprised when you get a rigged result.

It will deteriorate and be a dump in no time. Depending on how ‘Civilized’ the migrants are.! Sweden has areas that were once beautiful and clean, now are filthy dirty. Drogheda will be destroyed and nobody will want to go to it. 500 Migrants what are they going to do all day long except Eat all the food they can get and of course the ‘INTERNET’ will be in use all the time! Checking out what others Freebies they can get! The day out will be to go to collect their Social Welfare once a week! All handed on a Silver Platter to the detriment of that town. Tourists will avoid Ireland the Tourist Board can forget about Advertising from now on.🙄

Although I positively loathe the EU and it's fascistic nature, after looking at the UK I suspect that you would be getting these economic freeloaders regardless. Ministers and politicians make the same excuses and soundbites, but the reality to stopping this is very simple: don't give out handouts! The more you give, the more they'll take!
