Ash and Ogmios, the dream driving team. What a treat. Thanks gents!
I was there for the biggest crossover in KZread history - absolutely love this!
So many principles of driving also apply to life in general. Safety and calmness can be a way of life. Why stop when you stop the car. Does mindfulness stop when you check around your door before exiting the car. It's still advisable to be a responsible pedestrian. Every cup of tea or coffee requires handling boiling water. It just so happens that driving is the most hazardous thing we ( by that, I mean most people) will ever do.

This is so cool! And the ogmios song too 👌
Great to see the other side of this meet up 👍and nice to learn more about the legend that is Ogmios 😎 . Thanks, I have subscribed.
“It’s a part of my life that I don’t look back on with any pride, because I probably didn’t do myself justice”. That a lovely insight into your humanity.
I love Ogmios’s channel. It’s so creative. Simultaneously educational, aspirational, relaxing, and hilarious.
I'm from Liverpool but I found both of your channels randomly this year, great to see this collab!
Hazard lights need redesigning (as they are being misused - for parking - frequently) so a single hazard light can be distinguished from an indicator, could be a more rapid flash rate or as amber/red sequence.

Ooh! I like the amber/red idea. It’s hard to change things. Conventions get frozen in
The thank you hazards. I sometimes use the left right left right indication of thanks. In Europe when ive being cycling and driving I do notice people use the horn a lot more and nobody seems to get upset by it
Entertaining conversation and impeccable driving ! Looking forward to Part 2.
So nice to find a channel that focuses on driving and is actually calm, it's honestly so refreshing and just had to subscribe :D

got in an afternoon of work in the garden yesterday. today I'm going to do my best to not work at all.
Deadly. I'm new to this channel, and discovered Ogmios recently too - it's great to see you both driving around together! The LTNs though?! The slow nudging and conditioning of people to stay within certain limits that will get smaller and smaller - the plan being for you to be not using a car at all. Beware these techniques that use the tactic of the plan appearing to have an immediate benefit - with the aim of the observer not looking toward the end game of where these initial steps lead.
This was my home patch for about 20 years. The traffic calming has really worked. The road that you first pulled in to rescue the camera was a few hundred yards from my wife’s childhood home. That used to be one constant traffic jam with boy racers going along to side roads and not stopping at junctions. The drive up West Green road only took you a few minutes. It could have been more like half an hour 15 years ago.
Really enjoyed this. Was just a very chilled chat with to very chilled drivers about being chilled whilst driving. The “gentle beep” you talked about is in a new car. The Ineos Grenadier a new spiritual successor to the classic Land Rover Defender has on the steering wheel a small red horn button with a bike symbol on it. It makes a very small subtle horn beep to make your presence known without blasting a large horn.
This is great! As a long time viewer of Zen Motoring it was great to hear such a relaxed and insightful interview with Ogmios. I feel an important movement growing and the fleshing out of Ogmios and your own views on patient driving is a critical part of that. This is right up there with the first installment of Zen Motoring as one of the most important driving videos of all time. Props to you both 🙏🚗
What a great conversation between you both.
Thank you - what a treat! Mature and nuanced conversation about driving on a chilled drive in and around Tottenham. With perfectly-timed moments like Ashley's comment around 23:23, after checking that Ogmios is ok with him talking: "You've got this well under control mate, I can see". Cue Ogmios letting three men clear the zebra crossing and waiting a moment in case a fourth wants to cross. Ogmios gets a new subscriber 👍
First time ive heard of you talking about your football past, very interesting
An absolute legend, dude is hilarious.
These are very good uploads and you are the Man Ashley for these for sure! 1:28 is a very heartwarming moment on many important levels
What a great video Ashley, this made Sunday afternoon, before the working week starts, so relaxed! We can all learn from you two, I know I have. More thought for others, making interactions with strangers a fun and pleasant experience and as Michelle Obama once said, when they go low, we go high. Stay safe.
Sorry Ashley and Ogmios, the video is a little long for me to watch right now. However later tonight I will relax, empty my mind of all negativity and get ready for an hour of Zen-tastic viewing. I am off for a grateful jog to the kitchen for some lunch and maybe a double thank you on the way 👍👍

Always learning new things on Ashley’s channel. Today I learnt something non driving related. Never knew Ashley was a professional footballer that played for Liverpool! Only know he from his KZread channel.
I love this guys channel!
Great collaboration you two. Greetings from Australia 👍🇦🇺
Would love this to become a series you guys bounce off eachother so well!
OMG! You ended up where I was born, in a road off Clapton Common. And you stopped on Spring Hill, on the way to the steepest swing I'd ever seen, and slid on, in Springfield Park It seemed steep to me then at he age of 4. I saw recently that they got rid of it. The River Lea, rickety bridges, marshes and the low, short tunnel under the train line. Vague, distant memories!
I just watched all of Ogmios zen videos 🤣so funny and insightful!
Great video, I seen this guys KZread shorts, knew I recognised his voice!
Good call. Ogmios' channel has really affected my driving for the better, I found him before I found you and you have both had a very positive influence on me.
Fantastic drive.....loved it, very relaxing. Also just a quick update on my PCV training with National Express........they brought my final module 3 and 4 forward to next Wednesday. And I passed mods 1 and 2 with flying colours. It's only been a week lol. I'll let you know Thurs how I got on.
Namaste! Or should that be "gentle beep"?! Love Ogmios, how cool that he's on your channel!
@41.34 mentions hazard light thank you. Yep I do that at early evening when u would not see the thank you hand. I detest the flash of main lights as it blinds you, so hazard twice flash ideal. I have notice I see more and more people doing it and rightly so 😊
Haha I was never expecting to see Ogmios. This video is gonna be so good and I know it 😂.
"Using your horn as a stress ball" Great way of saying that.
As I said in Ogmios's video, 'Two philosophies practically with the same goal - safe carm driving'. I watch both of you. .
Hand gestures are often seen from the front hazards are seen from behind!
Regarding LTNs one of the key issues was that during the morning and evening rush hours people were racing down 20mph residential roads as a means to avoid traffic on the busy main roads. Now couple this with schools opening and closing and you can imagine the accidents where school children were hit or almost hit by speeding cars. So part of the LTNs is to force cars onto the main roads. A secondary part of it is to make driving deliberately slower than walking or cycling. Lots of people were using cars for short journeys where it could have been walked with relative. Now if that same journey comes to a point where its now longer to drive, people would obviously now walk instead except for those who cant, however id guess that by now there are less cars on the road. A third benefit now is that the residential streets become calmer so thus encourages cycling and walking because people no longer feel afraid due to the calming measures. I remember when these were introduced and still to this day people moan about the increase in traffic. However, its kind of the point. London is at a point where there are simply too many people and too many cars and so its not sustainable for infrastructure to be centred around driving and instead active travel more encouraged. The LTNs id say were a "cheap" way of doing this without needing to spend loads of money developing new cycling and walking infrastructure.
Love to see the driving channels on KZread to do collaborations together. Such a wholesome community! would love to see videos with other driving instructors like Aman from Clearview driving or Richard from Conquer driving.
Good to hear you two chat openly about LTNs. There's a lot of published research material about the impact that they've had, which may be of interest.
I've enjoyed this one. You should do part two in Liverpool.
Omigos is a guy I’ve never really watched, seen a few shorts but no videos. He seems a very chilled guy and liked how he came across and how he drove. A few instances that I wouldn’t have gone into before assessing a little more but hey the camera can’t see as well what the eye can. The Transit tow truck and it’s missing numberplates I’d have avoided, the beige Toyota missing a back bumper I’d have definitely questioned especially talking about hazards.
I love driving, I just feel so happy when I'm behind the wheel 😂!
Cracking video, old Corsa great wee cars, I was behind you near the docks a few weeks when down to Liverpool on holiday glad I didn't feature in any of your videos
@ianmason.
Жыл бұрын
Really? My old garage lent me a Corsa while my car was in, long enough ago to count as an 'old' Corsa. One of the least safe feeling cars I've driven in my (rather long) life. The thing I feared most was that if you tried to keep your right heel in the same place and slide across from the accelerator to the brake you'd find your foot *_under_* the brake pedal, an evil, dangerous bit of non-design.
I started watching this video and thought someone had put something in my coffee. I've never heard of this guys channel but I will take a look.
This collaboration is as miraculous as when Jonathans Liew and Agnew buried the hatchet. Thank you both.
ive been waiting for this collab
KZread algo works in mysterious ways...I am a sub to Ashley, Ogmios, and Reg Local, nice
The gentle beep…how apt that this appears in the video and discussed when I attempted one yesterday but ended up with a triple gentle beep while trying not to press the horn too long 🤣
Nostalgia to see the area I lived in 20 years ago! (Green Lanes/West Green Rd/Finsbury Park)
I love the idea of a "thank you" signal in a car. "Gentle beep" vs "telling off beep" as well, would be great if we could use cars to signal in this way.
I passed in a Corsa and had one for a while. Still have a soft spot for them.
The "grateful jog" is one of the (many) reasons why the new highway code rules are stupid. Pedestrians instinctively do not want to hold up a whole queue of cars.
@LS-gk4zc

some pedestrians instinctively do not want to be held up by a whole queue of cars. Not everybody can or wants to do a 'grateful jog'.
LEGEND!!!
the collab I didn't know I needed
the thing that amazed me is that no traffic zone, its not stopping cars going further and taking longer to get through by going around the houses using more fuel and causing more damage with their car and emissions.
Omg amazing colab 👏👏😂💖
Ash - you may not think you have done yourself justice with your football in the past, but I am sure I speak for many when I say you have done yourself plenty of justice now. The quality and passion of your content is consistently improving, and speaking personally you have helped me to understand and become a better driver. I started learning to drive with loads of anxiety and hated it - now I usually enjoy driving and have developed a lot of interest in cars, and it's down to people like you who provide the knowledge with excellent teaching skill to build the confidence needed to manage driving anxiety. Thank you & take care!
Ahh and I feel nice and zen now! Can't wait for part two! When will that be released?
That rap at the start was hilarious 😆 Great collab 👍
Shuffling the problem to a different area is important for traffic management, balancing flow near junctions and relocating crossing or joining traffic slightly farther away from each other on busy roads. Also by reducing traffic in residential spots it helps with noise and particulate pollution (debatable because that get's concentrated somewhere else but depends on local wind flows too) and the chance of kids being hit.
Been watching amigos for the last couple of years and I love his cometary on the Jewish people dancing lol he's Great and been watching your videos for a few years ash .
He seems like a top bloke and obviously a very sensible driver. Have to say though, it is stressing me out a little that he never has his left hand on the steering wheel;)
Got an ad for a meditation app before this, seemed fitting.
I'm not a fan of horn use, even if not intended, you get the impression people will take it that way. The first time I'd realise my horn isn't working would be at an MOT 😅. I also hate, hate, bicycle bells. You absolutely can't use one without either scaring the shit out of whoever you its intended to inform, which can cause them to actually jump into your path, or just aggressively turn round and confront you, yet the same people will complain if you don't have one 🤷♂️ I much prefer a loud freehub as all you have to do is stop pedalling and people can hear a bike gently approaching with doppler effect so they get direction and approach speed, and psychologically it tells them you've stopped pedalling to accommodate them so its way less confrontational 😊
could be an idea to have a podcast spin off if this where you or the person drive around and have a discussion? id be interested. keep up the good work with the vids.

1:29 nice collaboration, I recognised that soothing voice immediately.

Dont forget to rebook your Zen Driving test after failing with the mistake of stopping across the pelican crossing. Loved it.. EDIT: My mistake. i was too impatient. I see you got your certificate for the Mini Zendabout. ;)
I have to agree with the non-high budget car choice. I only have a 2016 Fiesta Titanium which looks good when clean but nothing special. Too many cars, bikes and trucks on the road and unless you're rich, an expensive car will just wear and tear over time. Bumps, stone flicks, chips, scuffs. I'd rather have a cheaper car to use in my day to day life that can afford small damages. Wear and tear will happen. I'm rather boring but i feel people rush to get expensive cars for a status symbol. I just want to get from A to B.
@smilerbob

Indeed. Having managed to watch the first 10 minutes and reach this point of the video I can honestly say most of my cars have been the same. I currently have a 17 year old Ford Focus that has more than paid for itself. One of my previous cars cost less than £400 as it had a dent and / or scratch on every panel including the roof. This I didn’t mind as half my time was driving around Birmingham and the other half was driving around London. Any additional car park bumps or knocks were never noticed 🤣 Engine was good which was the main thing and it didn’t cost much to run other than usual servicing and tyres…don’t think any of the suspension failed in three years either

@@Dayboot33 What my Fiesta? It is to be honest but i could have saved more for a SEAT or a VW. I just know Fiesta's can be cheaper to maintain. It's the 7.5 model with the original face lift so you could say it goes against my original comment. Although they are cheaper to run and maintain than a newer Golf or a Leon for example. I needed a newer car for the mileage and a Fiesta was one of the cheapest options.
