Driving through London real world MPG Challenge in the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid. Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I take on the ULTIMATE driving MPG challenge and drive the 2018 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid through London to Harrods, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Hyde Park to see what the fuel consumption of the 2018 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid was going to be. Was the hybrid car going to get the figures claimed by Hyundai, with a lot of stop start and slow moving traffic this was going to be very difficult for the 2018 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid to achieve 70 mpg.
The Hyundai IONIQ is the first car in the world to offer separate hybrid, full electric and plug in hybrid powertrains within one body type. Seductively styled with smart technology and a driving experience that’s responsive and rewarding, IONIQ represents the next-generation in eco-friendly vehicles.
IONIQ Hybrid and IONIQ Electric launch in late 2016, the line-up will be completed in mid 2017 with the IONIQ Plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Every IONIQ will share the same unique platform.
With three exceptional powertrain options in one beautifully designed car, it’s easier to make better choices when all the choices are better.

That was pretty heroic and impressive fuel economy too. It's a long time since I have driven through central London and no plans to do it now. A very enjoyable and informative video. Thanks.

Charles Holland-Keen I’m pleased you enjoyed the video driving in that chaos made it a bit more lighthearted as well (possibly might do some other videos in London then) I think it gives a good idea of town driving and not the sort of distance and time you can do on a test drive. Are you a IONIQ owner

@@DamoDrives Yes we have owned our Premium SE hybrid for 18 months now and are really pleased with it. A bit over 9K miles clocked now and averaging about 63mpg over very mixed driving with at least two people in the car. Motorway driving 70mph in cruise cruise+LKA fuel consumption mi 70mpg. Braking seems to give beast regen. Don't use sport mode much unless pushing on or a steep decline. Seat heating/cooling are ace as is heated steering wheel on a cold morning.

I have been very impressed with the 2 cars I have reviewed from Hyuandia and hopefully will have another in the coming weeks. Not reviewed any other hybrids yet either

Glad you enjoyed it. I think it depends on your type of trips and where you live. If you do short trips every day and can charge either with the end of day or during the day the PHEV is a good option (ie travel to work 20 miles then charge at work drive home and then charge over night or around 35 miles a day) in this way you only use the battery and have the backup of the battery. If you do not charge a PHEV you end up having to just use the petrol engine with a lot of extra weight so it’s less efficient than just a petrol. On the other hand if you do longer distance and or cannot charge the car the hybrid is better. Self charging hybrids generally have a lot smaller batteries so cannot do the electric only distance of the PHEV and is really good for longer trips and when you are doing a lot of start stop. Also with a PHEV you should try and plug it in as often as possible to keep the charge up, so go into the supermarket plug in for an hour, go out to lunch plug it in, go to work plug it in and when you are home charge over night. Hope this helps

Hello, I want to buy a car, and I'm between Auris 2016 and Ioniq 2017 and both hybrids. In terms of fuel economy what do you suggest? and is there a big difference between them in their fuel consumption? because if not I'd rather taking the ioniq since it has more space in the back seats, but fuel economy is my priority.

Hi Casper, i have not driven an Auris so i can not give a fair comparision between the 2. All i know is the Ioniq was a very good car. Sorry that does not answer the question but hopefully these videos can show you what the IONIQ is like

I watched both parts and you should have done a trip counter/mpg counter reset for inner city. You overall fuel consumption don't mean much for those of us interested in inner city driving figures.
