Driving in Austria 9: Otztal Glacier Road (Ötztaler Gletscherstrasse) 4K 60fps
The Ötztal Glacier Road (German: Ötztaler Gletscherstraße) at 2,829 m (9,281 ft) is the second highest paved road in Europe. It is the access road from Sölden to the Rettenbach glacier and Tiefenbach glacier in the Ötztal Alps. It was built in 1972 as a spur from the existing Hochsölden road. Near the top of the valley, the foot of the Rettenbach glacier, the road turns south and continues climbing through the Rosi Mittermeier Tunnel (1729 m long) where the highest point of the road is at the southern end of the tunnel. From there it descends to the ski station at the foot of the Tiefenbachferner glacier.

Ohh crap, I have driven past this so many times on my way to Timmelsjoch, I wish I had known about this road earlier. Hopefully I get to go on a road trip late this summer, definitely adding this road to my route!

Wonderful views on the highest paved road in Austria. Been a few times in Sölden but never did it, will surely wanna do it next time I will be there. The landscapes of The Ötztal Alps are stunning, did a 4-days hike there 2 years ago, on the ridge between Pitztal and Ötztal, enjoyed it a lot. Nice road to cycle up! Those long straights are on normal day real punishment; with head wind a sufferfest.. and it could get really cold up there; once weather changed and started snowing. Anyway miss these magnificent training opportunities… :/

Well it's nice as expected, but Sölden is more associated with winter activities... so I guess this video also needs to be remade during winter when everything is painted snowy white :)
