Driving a Bus in the Rain - Easter is Over

Музыка

Easter weekend is over, so peak travel southbound is back again. Lots of rain was in the forecast for the drive back.

    Congratulations Albert you did a wonderful job!! You did a job that would have made my grandmother proud she drove school bus for about 40 years. 😊

    I wish you the kind of joy and luck that she had in her years. She never had a wreck. She never had a student hurt. She did have one fire on her bus and it was large. But she got everybody off including a teddy bear that was important to one of her small students. Also she got me into it for a little bit while I was in college. And she got me to drive to California. On trips with her. And drive regular routes.@@alblua

    I am very fascinated by your coach videos. I subscribed to your channel. I feel I’m there riding with you but soon I need to make it reality and get my passengers endorsement and drive too. My name is Tim and I am watching from New Jersey.

    Great video Sir I felt like I was driving and I haven't driven since 1992 when the company I worked for closed its doors. I have a question is the lot in Chicago where your new division is located or were you just parking your busses there for the weekend. I can relate to driving in the rain and fog also busses of yester year didn't have very good defrosters. Thanks for leavimg the captions up longer it worked great.

    Yes, that lot is currently where our Chicago buses are based currently. I was lucky there was an open spot for me to use that weekend. Thankfully, my defrosters were in good working order and I had just changed my wipers the day before! Glad the captions were better, thanks for watching :)

    Why don’t you collaborate with J. Wang Vlogs as he has his sturdy view of the drivers seat and you have the head mount

    So how long did you drive the company cars/vans before moving up to the motorcoaches? 10,000 miles is pretty far... did you have to travel far away to like bump points, etc?

    I work full time as a front end developer and assistant schedule coordinator at the company in the office. Our insurance has a minimum age of 23 for driving motorcoaches. I always wanted to drive a bus, so when I turned 23, I went through our training program to receive my CDL. It was about 2.5 weeks for me since I was already well acquainted with company procedures, but usually takes around 3-4 weeks training from scratch. Now, I fill in when we are short on drivers and can escape the office.

    Albert, I really want to watch your videos all the way through, but I'm getting seriously motion sick from the camera on your head. The perspective is very cool, but the movements are too quick and jerky and I have to look away so much I can't enjoy it... plus the nauseous feeling. However, I seriously appreciate the effort you are going through to produce these, but I think a different camera mount is warranted. Unfortunately I don't think there is a mount that can be on your person that will be steady enough. Thanks for your work man! (and I love the Japanese style white glove approach. This is something I will seriously consider when/if I start driving. :)

    I always look around while driving to be aware of what's around me. Unfortunately I can't really improve the mount situation; a static chest mount is too low. The white gloves is definitely something I picked up from Japan and also help with grip and ventilation for me; they're actually baseball gloves but work very well for driving!

    I'm on Albert. On this kind of weather, even you're just driving a sedan, you HAVE TO look around like this to be extra careful. Views on side window and rear mirrors are much more limited due to the raindrops.

    Is it easy to drive these buses?

  • @alblua

    @alblua

    2 ай бұрын

    It's quite different from driving a car; you need a commercial license and undergo special training to legally drive a bus. Buses are also much heavier, wider, and longer. You are also responsible for the safety of all the passengers on board behind you. There are also strict regulations on hours you can drive and safety checks required before, during, and after every trip. In the end though, it can be good fun and you're different from everyone else on the road!
