To try to get the word out dude! In hopes that they could maybe cause enough public outrage to force GM's hand. I'm sure he's quite pissed and quite desperate that he has a $50k problem that supposedly "can't be fixed". Although I've heard that this is supposedly caused by the aluminum drive shafts that they started using in 2015 or 2016 (can't remember exactly). I've heard that replacing that and the transmission fluid with a newer formula SOMETIMES fixes it.

JD Power awards are owned by a bank. Last i checked, NADA and KBB were also owned by the same back out of California. If you see any vehicle with an "Award" run away. Everyone is going to buy one and the problems will occur. That is ontop of lost value of market flooded by the same vehicle model. This is why i went the other direction to a vehicle majority dont buy.

@@es-qf2gw With the Focus and Fiesta automatic transmissions, I'm skeptical that it's as simple as calling it the "pitfalls of owning automatic transmissions". According to an attorney on KZread (a video I saw a few months ago), there are company documents showing that Ford knew that the Getrag automatic transmission in Fiestas and Focuses was defective during pre-production of those vehicles. They decided to go ahead with selling the cars, thinking they could fix the problem (under warranty) after they sold the cars. Of course, they never found a solution. Now Ford is hoping everyone's warranty runs out before they can sue. Ford probably committed fraud by selling cars with defective transmissions; it''s likely not just a matter of manual transmissions being more robust or reliable than automatic transmissions.

My 2014 does it with the 6 speed transmission. From what I’ve read on some of the truck forums is that it’s the active fuel management system that’s causing it. I read that if you drive in manual mode in 5th gear it tricks the computer into thinking your still pulling off and it won’t engage the AFM. Once you’re one open roads and above 55mph manually switch to 6th. It works but I’m thinking off getting a module to delete the AFM. I guess for the people with 8 speeds you would try running in 7th. That being said my buddy did have the torque converter in his 16 go out on him which I thought was odd for such a new truck.

And, do you think the salesman politely shared this information with me before I purchased this vehicle? I have over 1000 miles on it. I am going to take it to the dealership in a week. After researching this issue “after” I bought this truck it seems that there is no remedy for this - only a bandaid - not a permanent fix. If the results come back negative then off to Carmax and I opt for a Dodge - which is what I had before this problem.

Luis Rodriguez @Luis - I owned a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 “manual” for 15 years and never had a problem with their undeniable prehistoric transmission issues. In fact, I never had any issues with that truck. Had 83,510 miles when I sold it. The Chevy Silverado 2017 - 2019 models have transmission issues which cannot be remedied. In fact, there is a class action lawsuit against GM for this particular issue among Silverados and a few other models of their company which has yet to be resolved. It’s just like the Ford Pinto issue back in the 70’s - Ford knew the problem existed before the vehicle left their plant. GM, Dodge...they’re no different. The bottom line is the almighty dollar. If your happy with your Japanese product then good night and good luck!

The 8 speed is known to have issues - their is a fix... According to TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) 18-NA-355, the update addresses “torque converter clutch (TCC) shudder conditions on 8L45 and 8L90” eight-speed automatic transmissions, RPO codes M5N, M5T, M5U, and M5X. Affected vehicles include Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, as follows. Chevrolet 2015 - 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2015 - 2019 Chevrolet Corvette 2016 - 2019 Chevrolet Camaro 2017 - 2019 Chevrolet Colorado GMC 2015 - 2017 GMC Yukon 2015 - 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 2017 - 2019 GMC Canyon Cadillac 2015 - 2017 Cadillac Escalade 2016 - 2018 Cadillac CT6 2016 - 2019 Cadillac ATS 2016 - 2019 Cadillac ATS-V 2016 - 2019 Cadillac CTS (excluding V-Sport models) 2016-2019 Cadillac CTS-V The issues with the 8-speed GM transmission are two-fold. First, some customers report the transmission shuddering frequently. Secondly, the shifts are very harsh between first to second, and then second down to first, especially when accelerating and the transmission is upshifting or decelerating and the transmission is down Shifting. These conditions are most commonly observed under light and medium throttle applications, and as often during full throttle applications. However, a new fluid flush appears to fix the issues, with some customers beginning to report a dramatic change in shift quality after swapping out the old juice. If the flush doesn’t fix the issue, the next step may be to replace the torque converter, which could be glazed. The issue seems to stem from “moisture content in the transmission fluid.” As such, the old GM transmission liquid is swapped for new Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP fluid. Driving the vehicle for about a week or so improves shift quality even further as the new fluid cleans things up inside the transmission and the adaptive shift algorithms relearn various parameters. This is obviously a big deal for owners struggling with their vehicle’s eight-speed. Hopefully the new fluid swap will provide a lasting fix. It could also be the Cylinder Deactivation System

The shudder is the TCC, it's designed to slip a little to prevent the computer setting a misfire code. They have been trying to fix it with fluid updates. The Lockup clutch in the torque converter is designed to slip slightly. It's this slip that is causing the shudder. If you use the wrong oil, it will cause it as well.

This happened to my 2014 Silverado when it was brand new in 2014 and I took it in 2-3 times for vibrations issues and they said it was normal each time. They even said it was the tire balance and swapped the tires out to no avail. Based on my experience, it's poorly made driveshafts or unbalanced driveshafts. But good luck telling any dealer that. I'm still holding out hope here in Texas.

I had this problem in my 2016 Escalade, it is the transmission fluid. They originally thought the issue was bad torqueconverters, which I had mine replaced but it didnt help. All along it was the wrong fluid. The original blend was to hydroscopic. They have to use the new formula fluid, replace the transmission filter and flush the trans 3 times with the new fluid. After performing the work they have to do a transmission ECM / TCM reset and the transmission has to learn all the new shift points. 25,000 miles now since the new fluid and no issues.
