The Baja 1000 is the oldest and most prestigious desert race in the world - and maybe the most dangerous. Teams and drivers try to prove their speed and resilience on the Baja Peninsula. CBS News' Jeff Glor has more, including his own taste of the trek.

That is so cool. I didn’t know about this before. Its like NASCAR or F1, but in a more unpredictable conditions and a rush of adventure Why they aren’t broadcasting this race on TV or in a livestream is beyond me

I guess you're not into motor sports because this race is legendary, I'd go as far as to say that this race is more prestigious than running the Dhakar rally at this point... 😂

Back in the day when Paul Newman, James Garner and Steve McQueen were involved with motorsports is about the last time there was any consistent and decent coverage of racing. Throw in the fact that you live in a "stick & ball" fanatic country is why you probably didn't know about this event... that has been around for decades. CBS was once a good source of the sport during the 1970s and 80s. But not anymore. The Ken Squire (RIP) and David Hobbs days are long gone. Which is why it's hypocritical for CBS to showcase this event, when they should have been doing so all along. What? One interview with Mario Andretti and a plug for that (inaccurate) stupid movie Ford v. Ferrari movie, in the past 30+ years? CBS is worthless. It was a slow news day is why this segment was produced at all.
I would love to see an interviewer ride in a trophy truck with not knowing what they are or anything about Baja , riding shot gun with Robby Gordon , or the the McMillin’s, or any of the greats . That would be amazing television.
This year VILDOSOLA from mexicali won in his category these ADRENALINE is the star of the baja 1000 every year its our go to .The cars are just increíble when thd race end destroyed

Well to correct the story.. there is nothing more exhilarating than racing in a trophy truck. I raced in one for years.. once you get a taste of that.. all other offroad vehicle just does not compare.

You nailed it square on the head! The downside is the exhilaration comes at a steep price...co$tly is an understatement! Thankfully they have other classes that are easier for the common man to afford, even though there is nothing cheap when it comes to racing. I have loved every dollar I've spent on it, even when I really didn't have it to spend.
