I travelled on a few Greek trains Patras, Olympia, Korinth Nafplion in the early 1970s. I used to love the lamb souvlaki kids would sell on the platforms - you just lent out the window and paid for it. Unforgettable. Many thanks for great video bringing back so many cherished memories of fabulous Greece.

Love it this captures the atmosphere of rural Greece and I assume was filmed early in the year given all the greenery. What a marvelous little railway serving rural areas. its what we could have had if so many branches had not been disposed of in the 60's

4:20 - small observation, very interesting level crossing we have there. it has Scheidt & Bachmann barriers, and a Vialis EBA(?) e-bell... but with the German level crossing sound. pretty awesome!

Great video! Definitely needs rail maintenance, new crossings, platforms & stations. That'll eliminate 90% of the horn noise and make many people happy, LOL. I'm sure new rail cars would be nice too, but not sure the Greece economy can support it. Hopefully this line receives updates as it offers beautiful views throughout & not found anywhere else in the world. Thanks again for sharing!

Oh my gosh! A lovely tour of Greece but the train made such a ruckus that it even disturbed my mom who was lying down reading her book adjacent to me. Half the time the train driver kept using the horn. I liked the two minute arial view you showed us during a stoppage at a station. Felt like I was looking down from my own balcony. 😆😆😆.

Thank you Anmol. The line is the second oldest in Greece, constructed during 1882 - 83. The view was taken from a top of a hotel. Sorry for your mama and the horns but the driver has to use it for safety many times for cars and pedestrians crossing the line. The whole line will be upgraded in the near future.

That's the same train trip that The Fonz took when he visited Greece in 1978.

Very much enjoyed your videos, too bad more of the metre gauge network isn't still running, particularly between Patras and Pyrgos, which would surely be well used? May I ask though, what is the maximum speed being achieved on this line?

You get the ticket from a ticket person inside the train or the internet it only stops if there is a station or a raised concrete platform for example the platform at 14:55 that lady near the start was probably staff of some sort like he said that stopped and got in at the crossing i don't know that actually

There is a European co-funded project signed last weeks for the upgrade of this tourist line in the next couple of years. Also they've started for the last three weeks to limit the weeds and stuff in the track. Have a nice weekend my friend!

Could do with some flange rail greasers along the route for sure! It all looks nice line but in desperate need of TLC and investment.

Which motor is the train powered by? It cannot be electrical because there is no power line. And you can't hear an internal combustion engine. Mit welchem Motor wird die Bahn angetrieben? Elektrisch kann es nicht sein, denn es fehlt die Stromleitung. Und einen Verbrennungsmotor hört man nicht.

こういう外国の電車内や駅でのネットワークを強化したいですね。外国だと、基地局を設けにくいだろうから。

Στην Αλφειούσα υπήρχε διασταύρωση, η οποία οδηγούσε προς Κυπαρισσία....

Πριν από λίγες ημέρες υπογράφηκε η σύμβαση του έργου ανακαίνισης της γραμμής με συνολικό προϋπολογισμό λιγότερα από τα μισά χρήματα του αρχικώς προϋπολογισθέντος ποσού (αρχικό ποσό προϋπολογισμού: 5 εκ. €, ποσό σύμβασης: 2,3 εκ €!). Τι ΔΕΝ περιλαμβάνει η σύμβαση του έργου: α. επέκταση της σιδ/κής γραμμής από τον σημερινό σιδ/κό σταθμό Κατακόλου έως το κρηπίδωμα του ομώνυμου λιμένα (υπήρχαν σχετικές κοινές δηλώσεις του τότε προέδρου τους Γαιαοσέ Αθ. Σχίζα και του τότε προέδρου του Λιμενικού Ταμείου Πύργου για το θέμα αυτό) για την καλύτερη εξυπηρέτηση των τουριστών κρουαζιέρας, β. ανακαίνιση της σιδ/κής επιδομής στα πρότυπα της γραμμής της Τρίπολης για αύξηση της ταχύτητας (υπάρχει μόνο μια αόριστη αναφορά για βελτίωση της γραμμής και ανακατασκευή των εδράσεων των γεφυρών, αλλά τίποτα το συγκεκριμένο, γ. εγκατάσταση Α.Σ.Ι.Δ. σε όλα τα πασάγια της γραμμής μεταξύ Κατακόλου και Ολυμπίας για αύξηση της ασφάλειας και της ταχύτητας. Ομιλεί για εγκατάσταση έντεκα (11) ΑΣΙΔ. Άραγε με αυτά τα συστήματα ΑΣΙΔ διασφαλίζουμε όλες τις ισόπεδες διαβάσεις μεταξύ Κατακόλου - Πύργου - Ολυμπίας; Άγνωστο! δ. Καμία αναφορά για βελτιώσεις σε κτήρια σταθμών (ειδικά στο Κατάκολο τα εντυπωσιακά ομολογουμένως σιδ/κά κτήρια εκμισθώνονται(;) από τη Γαιαοσέ για άλλες χρήσεις και ο σταθμός είναι κατ' ουσιάν ένα παράπηγμα. Κατέρχονται οι τουρίστες από τις χώρες τους, στις οποίες ο σιδηρόδρομος κατέχει μια σπουδαία ομολογουμένως θέση και τι αντικρίζουν; Μια παράγκα και μια σιδεροκατασκευή; Δεν πρέπει να υφίσταται ένα κτήριο σταθμού; Αν δεν θέλουν κτήριο και θεωρούν την ύπαρξή του περιττή, ας κατασκευάσουν τουλάχιστον αποβάθρες με στέγαστρα, στα πρότυπα του προαστιακού Αττικής και φυσικά WC! Επιτρέπεται να βρέχει (κάτι καθόλου σπάνιο στη Δυτική Πελοπόννησο) και οι τουρίστες και επιβάτες του τρένου να βρέχονται μέχρι το εσώρουχο; Επιτρέπεται και μάλιστα σε καιρό λήψης μέτρων εξάπλωσης νόσου να μην υπάρχουν WC τουλάχιστον για την πλύση των χεριών; ε. Καμιά αναφορά για συντήρηση και ανακατασκευή των παρακαμπτηρίων γραμμών στους σιδ/κούς σταθμούς Κατακόλου, Αλφειού, Πελοπίου και Ολυμπίας. Για τοποθέτηση ελατηριωτών ψαλιδιών ή τηλεδιοίκησης - σηματοδότησης (αν και πρόκειται κατ' ουσίαν: για δύο (2) ψαλίδια στο Κατάκολο, τέσσερα (4) ψαλίδια στον Πύργο, δύο (2) ψαλίδια στον Αλφειό, δύο (2) ψαλίδια στο Πελόπιο και δύο (2) ψαλίδια στην Ολυμπία, σύνολο 12 ψαλίδια ! στ. Καμία αναφορά για ανακατασκευή συρμών, ζ. Καμία αναφορά για εγκατάσταση "τηλεματικής" στους υπάρχοντες συρμούς. Είχαν υποσχεθεί ότι θα εγκαθιστούσαν οθόνες εντός των συρμών ώστε στη διάρκεια του ταξιδιού να ενημερώνονται οι τουρίστες σε τέσσερις (γλώσσες) για την ιστορία της Αρχαίας Ολυμπίας. η. Καμία αναφορά σε περίφραξη της γραμμής ειδικά πλησίον της διέλευσής της από πεζοδρόμια, αυλές κ.λπ. ειδικά μεταξύ Κατακόλου - Πύργου, θ. Καμία αναφορά σε ι. αύξηση της ταχύτητας, ιι. ελάττωση του χρόνου διαδρομής, ιιι. αύξηση των δρομολογίων, ιν. αύξηση της χωρητικότητας των συρμών, ν. διεύρυνση του ωραρίου εκτέλεσης δρομολογίων.

Something is constantly dragging the rails, with the exception of the places where the continuation of the rail lines are connected to one another. See e.g. from 12:12 Who can explain this to me? 12:12 Also irgend etwas schleift ständig an den Schienen, mit Ausnahme an den Stellen, wo die Fortsetzung der Schienenstränge aneinander verbunden sind. Siehe z.B. ab 12:12 Wer kann mir das erklären? 12:12

Yes, that noise really strange. As if there was always something dragging on the rails, with the exception of the places where the rails are connected to one another. Ja, das hört sich vom Geräusch her wirklich eigenartig an. Als wenn immer was an den Schienen schleifen würde, mit Ausnahme an den Stellen, wo die Schienenstränge aneinander verbunden sind.

Must be a secondhand Sprinter or Pacer from the UK.

It's a Swiss-built Stadler Gelenktriebwagen (articulated railcar). Variants of this design run in ten or so European countries and three states of the USA, but definitely not in the UK!
