"Creating magic is not for amateurs"... George you can't seriously think that. So many of our great story tellers had no idea what the fuck they were doing most of the time. Hell I imagine most of them barely had a formal education yet alone understood how to format a story. All of the stories that we watch, read or listen to are built on from stories told by our previous generations. They weren't story tellers of any kind. They were builders, bakers, priests and so on. It was someone's granny telling their grandkids a story. Fairy tales lasted the test of time through word of mouth before someone bothered to write them down. An amateur if determined enough can easily create magic. Story telling doesn't require much just someone with a vision they believe in and are willing to pour their soul in to every word. Shakespeare was once a nobody, who knows who the next Shakespeare will be.

If it was me I'd say it as it is and be honest. Disney fucked and shit everything up. Disney single handedly destroyed a lot of franchises. Lucas has more than enough money he doesn't have to take sides.

The fact is people don't know how to gracefully exit a community, I think part of it is also artistic pride on Luca's part cause Star Wars is his legacy. I know people in the cosplay community that are pushing 40 years old and they refuse to completely exit the scene when they were never really popular or e-famous outside of their local area, if these people can't leave a simple hobby imagine how much Lucas thinks about Star Wars.

The destruction of Star Wars was always part of George's plan. He never forgave us for the backlash against the Prequels

I think people forget George sold Pixar to them first. Star Wars is just a part, a big part but a part. He sold Lucasfilm, Lucasarts, THX, Sywalker sound, Skywalker arts, Industrial Light & Magic. Now all Disney have done is destroyed all of that. Then add Marvel, Twenyth Century Fox, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Hulu, Disney plus, Buena Vista, Disney Parks, Disney Cruises and counting. They have tanked all of that. It's a steady decline in all those areas. The word desaster doesn't come close to discribing it. Now shares are worth less than half and a just bouncing a step up and a step down at any given time. He thinks that is success? George has dementia. Or a guaranteed return on his own shares.

Shares are less than half in reference to when exactly? Lucas sold in 2012, and as far as I can tell, shares were about $50 each, and as of now they are about $114 each. So that’s twice as much. However, they have really tanked since 2021, when they were all the way at $200 each. So im assuming you are referring to 2021, which it did go down by half. But it’s still technically 2x more than when he sold. The trend is down from 2021, but up from 2012.

@@colinwest3301 I apologize if my response came across as a pointless “rebuttal.” That was not my intent. I was just trying to add some context to the discussion, and participate in the dialogue. I guess it was just a wordy way to agree that shares have fallen recently like you said, but it’s not entirely doom-and-gloom since they have actually increased from the time of the sale.

Let's not pretend here that Lucas was absolutely betrayed by the fans who turned on him with the prequels. The fans treated him like crap and it was our fault he sold Star Wars. He had plans for episodes 7 8 and 9 before the total fallout. But yeah. I agree. He doesn't give a damn anymore.

Lucas betrayed the fans, first with The Phantom Menace, then by burying the OT in his shitty narcisstic obsession with his 'SPECHIAL EDHUTIONS', refusing to just release the fucking trilogy as it was before he turned it to shit. He has despised his fanbase for decades, even the people that suck up to him no matter how much he fucks everything up. He treats you like shit and you let him. I don't get why people thinks he cares so much about star wars. He made what he wanted with it and sold it when he was done. He had a bit of regrets for a while but he knows he is done with it.

... or George is so disappointed in what Disney has become and done to his legacy that he wants to see it crash and burn.

George Lucas was really involved in the writing and production of "The Clone Wars" show, so it wasn't like he just spoke with Filoni a few times and let him go unsupervised. Filoni has basically taken over in that regard, along with Jon Favreau, since the Disney sale. Lucas doesn't obsess over the franchise like people think he does. He decided to distance himself from the operations and the writing and did so. He can make some kind of zen-like statement on how he could sell and let it go. We have seen him visiting the sets of "The Mandalorian," so he isn't bothered by where they take the story.

RIP Star Wars 1977-2012, “help me George you’re my only hope” George: “nop”

I wonder if George knew he had nothing left, so he happily sold out to Disney knowing no one there would ever top his contribution or show him up....

No, I'm pushing back against the whole "George judged KK poorly," thing. Kathleen Kennedy and her team's biggest problems were the story. When George Lucas recruited Kathleen Kennedy, he did not say, "Hey Kathy, make up a new story from scratch. Do whatever you want. Kill off whomever you want. Knock yourself out." Instead, Lucas wrote three stories he approved of and told Kathy to make HIS stories. He didn't know she & Iger were going to throw them out. So the idea that it's Lucas's fault we got Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker -- no. Disney's decision to throw out his stories, he didn't know they were going to do that. He thought they were going to make his stuff.

Kathleen Kennedy was nothing but a production assistant for very powerful men. Leslye Headland was a personal assistant for a very powerful man. I truly believe that the positions that they have are payment - both for silence and in gratitude - for all the crap that they know about and covered up. It really doesn't matter how they "perform." These are vanity projects to those women. And it's hush money from the system.

To be fair to George, he lived through an entire decade of his own fans calling him Satan for the Prequels. It was unrealistic to expect he'd jump to their defense now that he's a billionaire and the fans got exactly what they deserved.

I genuinely don't care that much for the corporate part of it. It's the opening sentence -" making magic isn't for amateurs". Like he didn't inspire so many little guys. This is the first time I've seen drinker genuinely disappointed and baffled rather than angry or amused.

Lucas is 79 and he looks like he is melting sadly. His wife is woke af too.

In George’s defense, in that on camera interview where George was passing the baton, Kathleen Kennedy said “the most important thing is to protect the characters you(George) created”. So, it would appear that George was lied to, because the 1st thing KK did was destroy then kill off the characters George created.

I have said this before. I think Drinker is controlling the narrative and ofc people in the conversation would feel uncomfortable to try to say against him. Edit: I like Drinker but there’s just so much of him controlling the narrative which I don’t think is good

You mean the fans that bought the merchandise, watched the movies, advocated for him, and gave him the money? The people who, without their money, without their investment, his little foray into movie making, would have had as much buoyancy as a rust riddled cast iron colander in a typhoon? George stopped making movies that people wanted to buy to watch. That's George's fault, sweetheart. Thats basic economics. When you cease to provide a product, people cease purchasing from you.

He’s the modern Star Wars fan that has seen what Disney has done and has detached himself from all of it.

I've said this for a long time, Kathleen Kennedy has something on Lucas it's why she has got so far and why he cannot say anything about her utter destruction of his IP.

It's 'the club'. You can't have success without 'the club'. And of course, when 'the club' tells them to do something - they do it. lol I don't understand how anything is shocking still.

I think he was offended about the reception of "a Phantom Menace" in particular. It's a great film in fact, strange that people don't realize that!

Maybe George wants to burn the company down indirectly. Sort of a revenge thing.

He probably doesn't care, it's that simple. He probably thinks about how much pudding is left than his legAcY with a bunch of nerds he doesn't even know and never will. If there is no more pudding left, that objectively affects his life more than what guys like us think of him.

Let's level head this. When Disney flashed all that money in front of George's eyes, he saw that as his retirement and, possibly (in some guilt-ridden way) his way to buy back the affection of his family that he'd neglected for so long. I'm positive that he had NOTHING to do with who was going to run Disney Star Wars - that was all decided AFTER the ink was dry and what WE saw was just purely the PR. Nothing more. I think what we (the fans and KZreadrs) are now waking up to is the fact that these people are all in cahoots and once they get past a particular point, they sell their souls to 'the machine' that is Hollywood and they don't care. I'm sure George Lucas hasn't given a sh*t since the "white slavers" comment - that was just his ego cos Disney dumped his treatments for the sequel episodes. Just a bitter, last stab for having done what he did (selling his "children" off), in order to retire comfortably and be set-up and buy back his family's affection. We, the fans, need to stop hanging on coattails and hoping for SW to get better - we need to wake up to the reality that the SW we knew is GONE and probably will never come back. It WON'T!! Not unless it was literally sold off by Disney, the new owner (Elon Musk?) literally redacts all that Bob Iger has done as 'non-cannon' and gives the fans what they want. That's a dream I'm not willing to hope or wait for.

George isn't running Lucasfilm now that Kathleen Kennedy and Iger stop bashing Lucas. Yeah he had poor judgment but he is not responsible for the current situation with Star Wars.

This should be of no surprise to anyone who hasn't spit-shined his legacy in the Disney Era. He sold out the integrity of his work since RotJ (remember the Ewok shows and movies?), doubly so in the Prequels and transforming it into a heavily commercialized brand, reselling and rehashing it in multitude of ways. Lucas stopped caring about his art long ago, selling it to Disney was the greatest expression of that.

Disney has done well with it. You guys just are closed minded and don’t want progress. To dislike a character because of sex is sexist. Or their Race is racist. And so on. Why don’t you want to more under represented groups portrayed ? I would be happy with a new lead with a disability. Because I’m not a discriminatory piece of garbage. I don’t want one type of person to hog the leads. You guys expected the the old trilogy and should ah be known you were never going to get that. Plus you would have complained it was a rehash. Then you push conspiracies about no one in the cinemas watching it they were all empty… with no proof…

This. The fans who thought the architect of the Prequel Trilogy was some kind of artist whose "vision" was "corrupted" by Disney is the most perplexing part of this story. George never made a good movie unless Marcia was involved. I'd call RotJ half a good movie. Cut out that Ewok stuff and it would be brilliant.

I'm neither for nor against his decision, but I think I understand it. He sold his creation to someone he trusted and thought he knew and watched it get warped and torn to shreds. Imagine what horrors might happen if it goes to someone he DOESN'T know?

Why does anyone think the new guy will be any better? Last week George was a hero, now a villain. Some guy maned Peltz is the new hero? Does he have any creative background or is he just a money guy?

I don’t think that SW was dead when sold, just in cardiac arrest. It had some hopes of reviving, but all of them have either been vain attempts that were counteracted or were intentionally trying to see it to its grave. Lucas just gave the call for the time of death. Hope that this is not Disney’s time to meet the grime reaper! RIP Star Wars. 😢
