Drilling a Earth hole with a DIY Auger Tool for a fence Post

Yey its was not my idea!!!
I was in the situation that i had to drill a few holes to set some fence posts. I looked around on youtube and that came around :)
I used a old 125mm grinding diamond wheel and a 12mm steel bar.
I drilled the holes 0,5 meter deep.
I was really happy with the result, it worked great and it saved me a lot of time.
Simple, nice, cheep and fun project.
Thanks for watching
And if you liked it don't forgot to give me a thump up :)
See ya Dirk

Try using a shop vac to extract the loose dirt as you auger the hole. You can do it in one continuous bore and save some time. Love your vids, keep “em coming please.

I tried two different gas powered post hole diggers. Hard red clay and tree roots. Ended up digging 49 fence post by hand. Next time I will make a square tube drive for the tractor and buy a auger. Nice work thanks for sharing many ideas for design in my head after seeing your drill model.

If you get some sheet metal (which doesn't need to be too thick, therefore easy to bend with the edge of the work table, as it doesn't need to be a perfect cylinder) you can make walls that go up from the blade, creating a "pocket". It allows you to lift even more dirt than with just the empty blade. I'd say for the one in the video, 4 to 5 cm of cylinder wall should be enough, too much and it becomes difficult to clear easily. You can also add a swivel joint near the top, which should be tightly wrapped with the strip made from the inner tube of a bicycle. The stiffness allows you to work the auger with ease, but it also gives you some flexibility and doesn't put too much strain on the drill. Bonus, it also helps clear the dirt in the cup.

Composite fence? That post looks interesting, is it made entirely out of the same material as the boards? We had issues with composite posts snapping during winter times

Not a bad design, but I think mine is better. It's based on an old italian planter. You can create 20+ cm diameter holes in no time. My personal best is 40 cm deep in 50 seconds. Strictly hand-powered! It can be extended with a 1/2 inch steel pipe and a welded connection piece. I made my garage base in two hours. 14 colombs 160 cm deep. No futher concrete job was needed. It is simple and effective, but require some muscle strengt.

That would not work on the ground here on Guam lol. It’s all rock. Literally only 1-2 inches of dirt in most parts.

It would if you make the scoop angle more aggressive. It would also be better if it had more layers, pushing the soil up and/or requiring less pull outs. No man likes to pull out.................so often anyway.

OMG... nice DIY tool, but the way to fill the hole with concrete is the worst I've ever seen. Next time, prepare the concrete OUT with the right proportions, and then fill the hole xDDD

Thank you 😊 its a finish mix, you put the concrete in the hole and than you fill it up with water. And than its finished. It was new for me too! Tried it the First time like that.

This is a common way to file post and fencing holes. Also pulls water from ground, and been done that way for over 100 years.
