Underrated comment
Man, the new RATM sounds great!
If you ever try this again, I think you could've controlled the pitch by putting a finger (or something else) on spinning plastic to slow the motor down. Or used the other gear (blue one had a switch one the top). Putting the torque limiter on could've given you some rhytmic clicking sounds. But that was aweasome job ! :D
@HeinerGunnar
2 жыл бұрын
Sure that was a torgue limiter? It looked a bit like a drill/screwdriver combo, so it could be the switch to flip the rotation
@quadruple_negative
2 жыл бұрын
The switch on the top would just be the gear selector, it wouldn't affect the pitch of the motor. The rotatey thing behind the drill chuck is the clutch for, as OP said, limiting the torque. Put that on the lowest setting and grab the chuck for some clicky goodness.

Rob you're (imo) one of the best musicians on KZread. Simply because you're so creative. You produce quality content in funky and fun ways. Love your work!
This crew is really fun to watch. Great video!
U guys are freaking amazing
This had a real Primus vibe to it.
Love your content! Always excited for some classic rob content! 😀
This reminds me of Savage Aural Hotbed, a Minnesota band I used to go to see a lot when I lived there in the mid 90s. They used a ton of "found instruments", one of which was a drill. Check out their song "two stage trigger". It was made with a drill that had, well... a two stage trigger, so it had a medium speed and a full speed they could use to get two different notes.
@tygrak

I looked up some videos of that band and they are amazing lol
This sounds like the background music of any Command&Conquer or Red Alert video game. Frank Klepacki would be proud.
That was AMAZING!!!!! Really hope this comes to Spotify 😏✅
who needs tom morello when you have a pair of drills
This was INCREDIBLE!
That was awesome! Way better than I imagined it could be
Really impressive! A new genre!
this Is the best song you guys have come up with instruments that are not meant to be instruments. I love this!
Those are awesome. Spike Jones would be proud of you. Also, GREAT drumming, Jessica.

These "found instrument" experiments are great!!!
Dang, Tom Morello went next level! 🤘
"Rob The Builder" - Driller Killer
If you use a plug in drill that goes into a wall socket it might be interesting because those tend to be higher power and you might be able to get a constant pitch.
Edwin from Shrockra played drill through his bass live quite a bit in the early '90s. Fun stuff.
The construction crews need to play this as a morning motivation!!
As usual, very well done!
The new and improved record skip sound!
I can't describe the urge to listen to Poundcake right now
Nice, this is very fitting content for unstable 2022

Classic Rob, being the most creative youtube musician on the platform.
Hi Rob, any chance you could do the sound engineer's perspective or at least a retrospective on how they help you guys sound so good. Feel like there's a whole aspect to this mess and tricks they're doing to elevate the piece that we just straight up miss.
There was a band I used to go watch frequently in the late 90s called Yolk, and they had a song where they used a toy drill over the pickups for the intro. Was a pretty cool sound too.
That was impressive af
Drill bizkit - My Generator

Makita is truly the drill of rock
I was waiting for them to attach a pick to the end of the drill bit
Wow this is actually quite good
Jessica's end screen for the win lol
I was hoping for this, and I am _not_ disappointed. I also wonder if there's a good way to dynamically affect the pitch, like scratching against different surfaces.
"So let's practice the chorus." "What's the chorus?" Yep.
I really love the drill slide ! (I never thought I'd say this)
This is so clever goes hard
You should try some brushless drills since they have much more tone and note definition
Yo this is funking sick
