A professional DI has to get into character when doing their job. If they were truly the assholes they seem to be they would never make it in real life. They are doing a job and doing it well. The Marine Corps has this down to a science. I realized this when I went through boot. But, to be clear, this is just my opinion and I was never a DI. I had friends who were and the best ones knew when to "turn it on and turn it off". These are professionals and the best of the best. Semper Fi!

Obviously not literally hold her hand, but help her. Looks like recruit in the back got up and was walking, Might have gotten sick or something.

The one I’d hate about serving and in being in training is the yelling. You can always hear the hoarseness in the di’s voice and sometimes it’s depressing hearing their voice crack/fall just talking regularly and my fear would be my voice ending up like that.

I was talking about being smoked by a drill instructor in general. That's not fun at all, I was being yelled at once by one and he made me so nervous he brought back something that I'd never to this day would ever think I'd do. Stuttering!!!! I used to stutter a lot when I was a little kid and he brought that stutter kid back to life. It was embarrassing and nerve racking at the same time.

I remeber being a recrute, and doing something close to this in 93. And the rain was hammering us down, ive just come off the buss. You give up all of your personal belongings, You get your kit, and then the Drill instructor just starts hammering you down as if you where a pice of nail against a card board. Relentless. My fingers just dissoled in the water from the rain, and the drill instructor was just screaming at me as if i was a idiot. Good memorys hehe.

One of the disconnects between the Marine Corps and the civilian world is that in the Corps you are taught to be part of a team and there is no "I" in "team", while the civilian is often narcissistic to the point of where the "I' is the only thing that has meaning to them. You can rag on Marine discipline all you want, but I found civilians to be most predictable as well as boring.
