In this drifting for big blue catfish video I meet up with my longtime friend and guide Matt Cartwright on Lake Tawakoni. We start the morning catching bait and then make our run to some deeper water to try our luck on them big ole blue catfish. Lake Tawakoni catfishing is some of the best fishing in the state of Texas. The lake is full of big blue catfish along with trophy sized hybrids and stripers.

That's some good drifting. I used to go to Tawakoni for some of those big ole blues. Caught 13 fish over 40#'s on the day after Christmas in the snow a few years back. Would start up by the dam on the corps of engineers side of the lake. My wife loves that lake, but if I'm that close to fork I have to hit those slabs!! Lol

Good video. Not much of a cat fisherman but I go for a change of pace from crappie fishing. The biggest cats I've caught was while I was crappie fishing. One 28# and 1 over 20# yellow cat on crappie jig.

Thank you Rick for taking the time to watch. I like to mix it up every now and then. I’ve caught some giant catfish as well on crappie jigs. A lot of times they win the battle though lol In one of my next videos I catch a big bass on my 12ft rod and crappie jig.
Awesome video! We’ve been fishing with Matt for years (at least 9), we always have a great time. If there’s fish to be caught he’ll catch em!

There’s never a dumb question. It’s a drift sock. It helps slow the boat down so that we can control the speed of our drift. Some days the fish like the bait a little slower than on others. It takes a little trial and error to figure that part out. Thank you for your question 👍

It should be a great weekend to be out there. They are biting in the dam area in 50ft but I also have heard reports of some big ones being caught in the 25 to 35 ft water as well.

@@CATCHAHAWG this may be a bit random, but could i possibly request a video on distinguishing sonar hits of one fish vs miltiple fish? Im kinda new to the 2D game and have seen videos of people showing multiple arches but saying theyre looking at one larger cat.

@@UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh I’ll see what I can come up with. On that particular trip the shad was so thick that we couldn’t see any fish at all. I find that to be the case a lot of the time.
