This was my first car back in 1990 . I was student in university. Great memories !!!
Insane to change the colour on that car ..would have looked amazing in the bronze with a EuroSpec look ..better than ending up scrap though

Yes, have to agree. The spoiler on the front has made it into a boy racer job. A repaint in the original colour would have been best.

In the original colour without the spoiler and the terrible striping it would have looked a lot better. Museum worthy. Now it looks silly.

You guys sound like a bunch of grandpas lmao Noone in the right mind would ever want a bronze car when they can have a black one. And calling a period correct Alpina chin spoiler boy racer-like is outright idiotic.
should have kept the original colour
As a teenager in the 80's this was automotive royalty! Well a least until the 325i 😆

agree I owned both , 325i very quick car for its day but the 323i sounded the best and was more of a handfull in the wet.
I agree that it was a mistake to lose the original bronze colour. They made a lot more work for themselves (which they did not show) and lost an element of originality which means a some potential purchasers would no longer consider the car.

It is what they don't say that's concerning. The cost of that paint job would've put this car beyond budget whilst reducing the potential original stock value.. the BMW bronze colour WAS the sport colour in it's day. I'm 44 and even I know that!

I had a 323 in that colour. It was quite special, tan recaros, 3 spoke steering wheel, extra fuel tank in the boot, alpine front spoiler, 13’ BBS dish Everyone can have a black car, that colour is original and so period
Don't reckon the pin stripes and definitely should have kept original colour
Yep, that worked out well. The 323i was a real gem, pretty much the same interior space as a 6 series. faster than than a 628i and not far off a 635csi.
Back in 1994 I bought an E21 323i from my first wife’s uncle. It was a 79 V reg and he was the only owner in 15 years, so I was 2nd owner. It was very tired in, out and mechanically so I restored it. But 4 years later I sold it 😢 I paid just £850 for it - wish I still had it today, that’s for sure. It was finished in Phoenix Orange so was a real head turner
Crazy changing that color.
The only car that made me cry of joy !! (driving in Sweden) after that no car came close to it, no way!! Never ever, now way!!!
Nice video, thank you for entertainment. The same restoration with the original color would be the best I can imagine. Black looks always nice, unfortunately the special charisma without the original color is lost
Back in the 1980's I had the ultra rare forerunner to the 323i, it was a 1976 320i 4 cylinder I believe the blocks were highly sought after for Formula 1,000? Mine was factory non metallic black, I had it resprayed and the Martini stripes fitted it also had a Britax folding fabric sunroof, Philips servoglide electric windows and cross lattice alloys. A real beauty & a flying machine
There goes the self proclaimed car expert changing something that didn't need changing in the first place. I wonder if his house is painted black?

had one in the late 80s ..... remember one late night dash for london to Newcastle in 3 hours pre cameras.
Best metallic colour for the e21! It really lights up under the lights at night.
I owned a 1979 733i, 4 speed stick. It was the best car I ever owned, if it weren't the absolute worst car I ever owned. Not a month went by that it didn't require some other very expensive repair. It was truly at it's absolute best when it was parked, indoors, in storage from October thru March.
A period correct Alpina striping i could have understood but not these clown car stripes on the trunk and sides. Especialy those on the trunk

I owned 2 of these beautiful BMW's both black and one was Alpina spec, wish I still had her! 😍
Investing in losing money.... Original colour would have been a killer for the true collector. The current update looks cool, but the increase of value is for the ones kept in original condition.
I had 2 e21s in the late 1980s. A 320 and the 323i. Loved them both

Great little car. It looks great in black. I hate the striping though. I like the original color. I used to drive a 316 e21 from 82. It was also painted black. Originally it was Pusta green.
I am not opposed to some mods, as I find fully stock cars rather boring, but changing the colour on a valuable classic is a big no no. I own an E28 myself, and although I lowered it, mounted a set of 16’ BMW cross spoke wheels and fitted a Simons sports exhaust system, I will keep it in its original Lachssilber colour. The other mods are easily reversible should I ever sell it and the new owner has a different taste, although I highly doubt I would ever sell that beautiful machine…✨
Wow brought back childhood memories as an 80s baby.. my father had the same car after a Datsun 120y fastback.. (fast being opposite of what it was😂). My dad's 323 was dark metallic greenactment and on the boot where the black plastic is between the lights was a reflectivered "323i" plastic.. best car my dad had too.. top job 👌
Drew ends this worshipping the handling, yet i remember the swing axles at the rear being treacherous in the wet…

Unfortunately as Drew hasn't driven one as a daily driver in rain and snow he knows nothing about these cars true handling. Fun on a summer's day, lethal and tail happy in the wet and rubbish in the snow, that's a fact I drove one every day for 2 years. Previous owner did a 180 spin coming off a wet island and it scared him into selling it!

Love the old BMW E21 ‘s always saw these on the roads once upon a time they were very common. Fetching great money now. After the E21 was the E30.
He's surprised about horse hair being in the seats, yet there is a very rare & expensive market that uses them in mattresses.
*Drew & Paul Get Rid of 45 Years Worth of Originality And Spoil A BMW 323i*

The car that put BMW On the map!! Not too big, not too small, Great handling, pePpy and most ImportantLy never gets Outdated inside or out!! Very well Balanced.....
I had a baur 323 convertible and a alpine 5 series, Doh! They were worth nout back in the early 90s
Beautiful car, any ideas where they got the bumper chrome? Thanks
when you look closely, it looks like it is moving whilst be stood still
Stunning in black with those wheels.
My dad had a new 323i in 1984 in Henna red, it was glorious apart from the steel wheels 😬
I remember my dad and just about everyone looking at these as the car they wish they could have. O
These wee snippets are great, no sitting through 20 mins of ads and repetition 👍
Brilliant job 👍👍👍
Looks superb. 👌
Lovely! I'd love to have an E21 323.
As a bodyman of 30yrs, I find the color black most suitable. It’s a color that will tell on you if you overlooked any detail on the the bodywork. It’s also a sign of class. Much respect to Drew’s choices on this car.👍
I loved the 83 320i in Baltic Blue I had in high school (89-91)...it was s 5spd 4cyl but it was quick, it was lowered so it handled like it was on rails, plus I had over 2000 watts going thru two 15" woofers, two 6" subs, and two tweets...it rocked...🤘🏻🇺🇸
My childhood dream car which I dreamt to buy in black and put zender spoiler kit at that time which use to make them look gorgeous
To keep it original you could of died that carpet, there was no wear on it.
My old man's first of many Beemers was this car in a light metallic green..........All my mates were well jealous! Unfortunately, I was too young to get a shot behind the wheel......but I made up for it a few years later when he had the 1st ever M5 sold in Scotland;~))......Which he only had for 10months, because it was just too fast! He part exchanged it for a 735i........Which, ironically, wasn't much slower! Lol!
What a beautiful car!
WOW, what a beautiful car and an outstanding job on the restoration, very, very well done

Not really an early 323i. The first series 323i was built from 1977-1982. The wing mirrors as on this model were fitted from 1980 or 1981. Till then the wing mirrors were in chrome, smaller and attached to the metal of the door.

I dream of restoring my 07 dodge ram. I am broke as a joke however I will do it someday. I own the greatest truck ever. I fell to certain death and survived reason being is I left my truck running on sub zero winter day in Michigan. Without the truck idling in the distance I feel I wouldn't have made my crawl after falling 25 feet. Once I made it too my truck I laid under the exhaust pipe to thaw out then climbed in my truck to call for my own medivac. My truck had over 400,000 miles on it that day and it never missed a beat. Everyone currently telling me to get rid of it. Truly will never happen some day my truck will live again like I am. Injuries shattered hip and pelvis broken right shoulder 10 broken ribs bruised lungs and severe hypothermia and permanently bruised femer. Again greatest truck ever.
Very nice restoration. Tasteful and classy.
Changes fabulous period 1980's colour for boring 2020 favourite colour (like every other car on the road either black or silver) whilst saying he wants to save the car's "Integrity" ... I'd like to see a passing Magpie yank Drew's poncy "I'm artistic me" floppy flat cap off and spray his baldy bonce metalic black!

So did they make any money out of it?
Nice car. Also nice that the modifications can be taken off easily is somebody was to make it original.
Very Fair price at 5k
came out really nice but for all the money they spend making these shows you'd think they would at least do a little better documentation ,for example the horse hair padding was used in the e30 as well ,e21 wasn't the last one to use it.
Shame the car is now being sold for parts on eBay after only doing 100 miles. Fishy
I had a black one of those , bought it for £250
Retaining that horsehair stuffing added $0 to the resale value of the car.
Another classic messed up. Original is always best!
Damn I had one of those lol wish I still had it
These were lovely on their day and stayed lovely. They went through the normal thing 70s BMWs did in middle age, becoming rat cars driven fast and illegally and without MoTs around London. But those that survived are worth the trouble. The E21 320 (6 cylinder) was also rather lovely. A 2002 but more so. Not cheap to run, but wonderful to be in.
Why not have it washed first? Oh yes, that's why lol...
it's bugging me can anyone help I can't be bothered to search. Who is narrating this?
The E30 also used horse hair until 87
45 seconds from end we see its manual 🙄
