Dressing My Dolls for Pride & Creating an American Girl Pride Parade (+ My Pride Parade Experiences)

This video is three in one - Let's chat as I dress the dolls for Pride, then I'll walk you through creating an entire doll-sized Pride Parade for them (it's pretty epic), and I'll show you the results of that photo shoot as I tell some stories of my own Pride Parade/ Pride Festival experiences.
If you're only interested in some of the video...
*Dressing My Dolls begins at 2:06
*Planning for/Creating the Parade begins at 14:00
*Parade Pics and story time (some of my Pride experiences from the past twenty years) begins at 28:33
I'm really, really proud (pun intended) of this photo shoot and I think it's full of joy, which is the perfect counter to the bigotry that becomes especially visible in the AG community every year in June. If you enjoy this video, do me a favor and share it! Share it far and wide and hope that it brings some joy to someone else.
Thank you so much!

    It’s really hard to pick a favourite element of your AG parade, but I think it’s the flag twirlers. The car and float is the obvious answer, and the way you made the dolls line the street is amazing, but something about the flag twirlers came together in such a surprise. The TM dresses were perfect, the flags were brilliant. Happy Pride! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

    Thank you! Who knew having so many of that dang dress would come in handy? I think it's the wire in the top and being able to make them "flutter" - that little detail makes it for me. Happy Pride, Blaine!

    WOOW Kristie! As always, you’ve done a wonderful job here. I love how you dressed each doll. Those small scale styled overalls are SO cute, the way you split Julie’s outfit into two was creative and done well.. I could go on and on. I think your stitching on Ash’s shirt looks just fine. It has a homemade charm that I just love. Seeing you and the fam at Pride events made my heart warm and fuzzy, and the icing on the cake that is this video was seeing your creativity shine through in your doll Pride event. It looked like so much work and it was worth it for the results. Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

    So it didn't occur to me in time to do it for this year, but I just got the idea to do a virtual AG Pride Parade next year as a community event on agig - everyone can create ONE float or one grouping of dolls marching in the parade and we can all post them with the same hashtag and create a huge, glorious, global virtual Pride parade :)

I want to help name your wife’s dolls 🩷🧡💜!!!! This was a beautiful way to celebrate Pride!!!🌈 I can’t imagine that feeling you had that day in the bank! Yesterday was loving day, and it’s difficult to think that the year my husband was born was the year it became legal in all states for interracial marriages. I cannot fathom being told that I can’t marry who I love just because of race. So I am happy and celebrate with you as an ally. Much respect and love!🌈

Also, happy belated Loving Day. My friend got married on Loving Day. She is biracial, queer, and in a biracial marriage. Imagine all the laws and minds that had to be changed for her marriage to exist. And the beautiful thing is they didn't realize when they picked the wedding date that it would fall on Loving Day. What a beautiful, happy surprise!

    I love your pride parade, it's incredible!! I remember for the last few weeks of my junior year of high school my friend and I were constantly looking for updates on the Obergefell case. I was so happy when same-sex marriage was legalized because it meant my mom and her partner, who had been together since 1999, could finally get married! They're celebrating 25 years together and 8 married this August! 🏳️‍🌈

    Happy Pride . The video is great you never disappoint. The dolls look great in their pride outfits. We have the red remote car and have great fun with it . The float is a nice addition that is Amazing !!!!!!!. I have attended many pride parades with friends in New York. The parades have always been a nice experience that was just the start of the fun and events for us. I will say when I first started attending the parade or pride events it was mainly single people. Over the years I have seen more families attending and the types of events done have changed to include more family friendly events. You are so creative and this project as you said is really AMAZING the fluttering flags, the banners , Ms Bosco,s and Logan ( lol) a great use of the meet outfits everything The our generation car paintjob totally transforms the car. Two of my friends got married so on a personal level I understand how important marriage equality is, before that they were domestic partners.

    Happy Pride! Wow, your parade looked fantastic -- what an amazing photo shoot! I was so excited to see one of your dolls dressed in Pride gear and using a wheelchair. I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user myself, and it sounds silly, but that genuinely made my day. I actually got really behind on watching AG tube videos lately because I was having a chronic illness flare, but I'm looking forward to going back and watching all the cool videos I haven't caught up on yet. You did a great job with everything, but I especially love the flag corps -- my uncle was actually in NYC's Flaggots for many years. I've been to NYC, Philly, San Francisco, and LA Prides so far. I'm sorry about the situation with your library, that sounds really awful. It's great that the comic shop volunteered to help.

    How cool about your uncle! And thanks for your empathy about the library. It is scary how much conservatives' threats put well-intentioned people and organizations in a chokehold. I hate it. I *am* very glad it prompted the formation of Delaware Ohio Pride - they've done a lot of good in our community. Also, re: Lark being an ambulatory wheelchair user, I'm so glad it made your day. Someone mentioned EDS or POTS as possible reasons lark could use her wheelchair, so those are two things I'll read up on to learn more about.

  • @S.L._

    @S.L._

    @@agtakesover It is very scary what conservatives are doing. I lived in Florida for two years -- and got out *just* as they were cracking down really hard on trans people. I breathed such a sigh of relief when my partner and I got back to the Northeast, where we're from. Ohio seems like it must be pretty nerve-wracking a lot of the time. I'm so glad your town created a Pride, and that it's doing so much good. And yeah, EDS and POTS are both great reasons why people are ambulatory wheelchair users. Fibro, MS, ME/CFS, RA, and Lupus would all work, too. Something that might be worth considering is that often (though by no means always, and not with every disability/chronic illness) many ambulatory wheelchair user use canes some or all of the time, when they aren't in their chairs.

    YAY!! I'm already planning to host an event for Pride next year on Instagram. Picture it - A virtual AG Pride parade where everyone who wants to participate creates one float or grouping of dolls to march so we can look at them all together as part of one huge, glorious parade.

    I love your Pride parade!! What a huge undertaking. Just setting up that many dolls and keeping them all from falling over is a job! It was so well done and so well shot. I’m for sure gonna try those rainbow crowns. I’ve got my “Super Gay” tee shirt on order (thanks to my unknowing super conservative mother in law’s monetary gift). Logan’s enhanced outfit was quite funny🤣. I really enjoyed hearing about your pride parade experiences. I’ve never been but I’d like to. I hadn’t thought about the implication of businesses supporting the parades and then pulling out this year. Thank you for all you do for our little doll communities, KZread and agig. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

    So I know you were hoping for an AGIG pride-themed community event and I don't know that I'll do one this year, BUT...next year I'm going to host an AG Virtual Pride Parade and encourage folx to create one float or one grouping of dolls that can march in a parade and when everyone shares their pics with the hashtag, we'll create a huge, joyous, beautiful, global virtual dolly pride parade we can all "attend". The idea just occurred to me yesterday and I'm already looking forward to it :)

    I've got good news for you and you'll have PLENTY of time to plan. Next June I'm going to host an AG Virtual Pride Parade event on Instagram (just thought of this today or I would have aimed for this year lol). We can all create ONE float or grouping of dolls to march and together we'll create a massive, joyous, lovely, global Pride Parade we can all enjoy. Just thinking about it makes me smile.

    I’m also in Australia and I remember the marriage equality referendum so clearly! I was in the 8th grade at the time and I did a photography project on the pride posters all over the city of Melbourne where i lived at the time! It was a great project but I did it before I was out to anybody. This year is the first year I’ve been out as bisexual for pride! Even though I’m in a heterosexual relationship, pride is still important to my identity. 🏳️‍🌈

    You had so many fun details in your parade! It was lots of fun to see your pictures and I enjoyed your stories. I think it's cool that your smaller town is hosting its own festivities now. I loved the details like the head wreaths, the flags, posters, the embroidered shirt, Logan (that cracks me up!) the babies, and more. I'm glad it wasn't windy for the photo shoot. It's hard enough to get dolls to balance. How did you do the facepaint on the dolls? (I don't think you told us, but maybe I missed it)

  • @agtakesover

    @agtakesover

    2 ай бұрын

    Oh, I should've mentioned about the "face paint". When i ordered the flags, they came with stickers. The stickers were all too big to work on the dolls, but a few of them were images that contained smaller images I could cut out and use (One was a large sticker of sunglasses but the lenses were rainbows I cut out and put on the dolls' cheeks, and a few were little animals holding the pansexual flag and I was able to cut out just the flag to make some 'facepaint'). I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!

    I was wondering where you stood on the Israel Hamas war. Now I am sad to have found out. I haven't been in tje doll community since I figured that most here were probably on the Palestine bandwagon. I was going to ask you because you are more mature than must on the site. Oh well, I feel very alone. You can ban me if you want but I do really enjoy your videos. I had just imagined that we had more in common than we do. I don't even care. I am used to being treated like a pariah lately. 😢

  • @agtakesover

    @agtakesover

    At this point I see no reason to block you. I would ask you to not dismiss my stance as immaturity, though. We obviously receive our information from different sources. I first started thinking more about Palestine when my older daughter (PoliSci major) took an Israel Palestine course in college and began sharing what she was learning. It helped me realize how successfully one narrative about Israel has been pushed in the U.S. but how that doesn't necessarily make it accurate. If you are at all interested in considering different sources of information, I would recommend several IG accounts: @eye.on.Palestine, @theimeu, @letstalkpalestine, @landpalestine, @middleeasteye, and several posts by @sunnmcheaux, to offer just a few. If it is any consolation, I too feel alone in this community. I can literally think of only one agtuber/agiger who has explicitly stated a Pro-Palestine stance. I've seen a couple comments from ppl in support of Isreal. Mostly, though, there is a deafening, heartbreaking silence on the issue and a sense that we should NOT broach the topic in the doll community in order to keep this a respite and a light-hearted place. While I generally try to respect that is what ppl want, I made an exception with the sign in this photo shoot.
