A POSEABLE American Girl Doll?!? This is a Must-See!

Ойын-сауық

I've always liked that American Girl dolls don't have visible joints all over, but I've also wished they had better range of motion (oh, the doll photography possibilities!!!) Did I find a way to get the best of both worlds?? I think so, but you'll have to watch to see for yourself.
And yes, I DO read every single comment, and I reply. So please engage in the comments section and thank you for spending some time talking dolls with me today!
P.S. Shout out to ‪@AGTV4Life‬ for being a great doll friend and helping make this video possible. If you haven't checked out her channel, you definitely should :)

@agtakesover they have started making more expensive limited editions lately with their collection line and the Disney and Barbie collaboration. So we'll see. I would want it so much but if it's too expensive it wouldn't be worth it cuz I do set up scenes and change their clothes and the articulated part might wear out after a lot of use. But I'll check out OG's. Does the hair smell? I read somewhere that OG changed the hair and it smells now. If so I can't get another OG doll. I do love them but the AG smile faces are my favorite.

I will concur with what Cassie said on the live chat. Very few of my OG dolls stand well at all. I have them in stands or leaning against something. The ones that stand are knocked over easily in my experience. I think this experiment was a success. So many of the movements in the pictures looked so good. I’m especially pleased with the sitting since that’s one of my biggest gripes with AG/18” dolls in general. Cool video.

And the thing is, I don't even want them to change ALL the AG doll bodies. Many ppl do not like the look of articulated joints and would not like it. But if they made SOME articulated dolls then people could pick what they like and I would personally get at least one articulated one in each skin tone and I'd just change their heads as needed.

Great idea! I find the newer mold OG faces so much better than the older ones, but not comparable to the softness of AG. I’ve also realized (maybe it’s just me) that the lighter eye colors give the the creepy deer-in-the-headlights and “I’m watching you while you sleep” look, but the darker brown eyes look sweeter and more natural. Tangent here, I actually find all dolls creepy except for AG! 😆🫣😳 I love Josephine - she’s so sweet and I find her hilarious. Her way of talking is so funny. This is a fun video! Have you ever looked at the Götz Happy Kidz? They have articulation similar to the OG doll here, but without the articulation at the wrists and feet. I would say they have a better range of motion in the elbow and knee than this OG body. They are fully vinyl, though, so it would not be possible to swap heads. They also tend to have a more neutral expression than AG. I collect both AG and Götz Happy Kidz, so I just use a Götz when I want to pose a doll. Maybe you could start a whole other channel! 😂

Probably 99% of Our Generation dolls have no more range of motion than AG dolls. Then they have a limited number of "poseable" dolls that are softer with wire armature inside and then TWO dolls with this type of joint articulation (both retired, one light skinned and one darker skinned). I’ve always wished AG dolls feet could point and their knees could bend to sit in a chair properly, but never thought about the arms and hugging. I never liked the original OG doll faces; now they are so much cuter, but like you said, melancholy looking. The big thing I’ve never liked about them are the weird arms. I just can’t get past the way they look. I laughed out loud at your description of the 3 types of dolls! 😂 Also, that was so nice of AGtv4life to pick her up for you! Then bendable leg Barbie of 1965 which ironically Barbie collectors call "American girl Barbie" due to the pageboy hairstyle being like that girl next door American kind of hairstyle etc. lol check KZread for 1965 barbie commercials and you'll see how the bendy legs worked 😆

OK, so I do like the possibility especially the one where they are sitting I like that a lot that is so freaking cute. I do kind of still have a problem with the first the mobility of it I mean granted it is a lot more than what you get now with an AG but at the same time, I don’t know they look funny and I have little issue with the hand because they’re not AG hands, but I do like the wrist mobility so if AG ever did something like that, I would want a little more mobility and I want it to not be necessarily so noticeable that all your doll can wear is long sleeves like that our generation one, but I do love this idea. I’m all for it. I just have some weird thoughts about it considering I’m used to AG. I don’t collect OG like you said, I don’t really like them. They have a weird face. Their faces are cute but I just don’t like them. I even would and I even have one those because of the stitch costume have one of the ily forever 18 inch dolls and I would take any of those again over an OG doll because I don’t like them. So I definitely love the sitting pictures and some of the standing ones because like you could get it like you said pretty creative but at the same time. they look comfortable.

I'd ideally like AG to make a few articulated dolls of their own. Not to replace the current doll bodies, but as an option in addition. Maybe they'd be limited edition, maybe they'd be a CYO option, I'm not sure. I get that they'd be a bit more expensive, but for me it would be worth it to have a couple in different skin tones and just switch out their heads as needed :)

Hello, from Brazil. Love your videos. I don't know if you are willing to try this (probably not) , but hear me out: if you take a little bit off from the back of the leg, where the joint touches when you try to bend the knees, I believe you would be able to get a 90 degree angle. I saw Marina from Poppen atelier do that to a barbie 9ithink) in one of her videos, and now watching this I remembered. It wouldnt look good, but It could work and you are already going to cover it up anyways, so...

She doesn't know about the basement dollroom (the cat boxes are down there so for the moment we just say it's a stinky place). She knows we stored doll stuff down there, just not that it's set up beautifully. She is allowed to come into the upstairs smaller doll room, but with one of us. And she has her own WW and AG dollhouses (both purchased used) where she is allowed to play as she wishes whenever she wants. So far it's working for us.
