A Pride-Themed Q&A Video - all your questions answered!

It felt like time for another Q&A video and in the spirit of Pride month, I invited you to ask any LGBTQ+ themed questions about me or my dolls. You did not disappoint!!
One of the questions was about openly LGBTQIA agtubers I enjoy. I answered this one on the fly and the content creators I mentioned were: ‪@DisBlaine‬ ‪@superfundolls‬ ‪@Obsessed_dollboyag‬ ‪@Agforeva96‬
Content creators I either forgot to mention in my haste, or who I learned were part of the LGBTQIA community after editing this include: ‪@FixMyAGDoll‬ ‪@americangirlfilms‬ ‪@AGsunflowers‬ ‪@cheekyceci‬ ‪@idreamofjonny‬ Feel free to self-identify in the comments if I missed someone OR if you know of a channel whose creator is openly LGBTQIA and I'll update this list. I'll also add to it as I remember more of them ;)
I hope you enjoy this long video and I appreciate you spending some time with me today :)

Hi from a nonbinary person, your answers to the pronoun questions were great! Thank you for sharing and educating. I really liked how you said to ask seemingly cisgender people their pronouns to normalize asking people for their pronouns. It makes us trans people feel less like “the exception.” -Dallas (he/they)

Yes. Most of us do not like feeling like the exception, especially when the societal implication is that it's an exception to what is good and natural and desirable. Thanks for watching, Dallas :)

Thank you for making this video. As a fellow collector and a mom of a young adult who is trans and another child who is questioning, I feel more of these conversations need to happen. Thank you for being open and your story both challenging and uplifting. My oldest has lost friends just because she is trans. Collectively we both have lost family members because they are not accepting and myself losing friends because I love and affirm my LGBTQ child and others. Thank you for being here and sharing your life and love of the AG community.

I'm so sorry you and your children have lost friendships and family members because of their inability to open their hearts and minds. But I'm so, SO glad your children have you in their lives. You're not just helping *them* feel safe, accepted, and loved. I imagine you are also a positive and important person in their friends' lives, too. My older kiddo has told me repeatedly throughout my life that several of her friends have noted the way our relationship was rooted in respect and acceptance. It makes me sad that several of them don't have that with their own parents, but I also know it's been an opportunity to see that they *deserve* that love and respect. That, as the song says, "there's something wrong with the village."

You made such a good point about queer women being so rare in the community. It’s rare in EVERY doll community, no idea why. It’s something that’s always intrigued me. The men are almost all day and the women are almost all straight.

  • @agtakesover

I totally understand the men being here. When women try to enter predominantly male spaces they often encounter derision, resistance, and gatekeeping. When men enter predominantly female spaces, though, they are often met with gratitude, embraced, and even fawned over (ex: teaching, sign language interpreting, doll collecting, etc). What I don't understand, though, is the absence of visibility of queer women in the community (at least on agtube). That said, a couple Sapphic female agtubers self-identified in the comments, so pointing out the lack of visible presence seemingly helped :-)

I am trans masc enby and it is so nice to see other queer folks in the doll space. I don’t tell anyone in offline spaces about my hobby, and it’s really weird that the only folks I see are either kids or middle aged cishet white ladies making videos about it. I have more of a focus on using found/recycled/handmade things in my dollhouse, so I am kind of niche within the niche, but it is so nice to see your content and realise that there is someone else out there who sees trans folks as human beings and holds space for us and also enjoys the same hobbies. I'm a Christian from a very conservative family... and there's aspects I am that way... but honestly... it's just about the person. There are some very ugly people portraying themselves as good people and they aren't... so I personally I getting to know you and our growing doll family... and my daughter is excited when we get to see you guys or I have your videos on... and it's because you've been so kind to her... she hasn't asked why you have a wife... you just are who you guys are because you're kind. Jessna, I read this a few times trying to make sure I understand it correctly. I'm still not sure if the overarching message is that you have come to question your family's/church's teachings about sexualities other than heterosexuality or if the message is that in spite of maintaining those beliefs you are able to appreciate people on an individual level.

@@jessnawoods I'm afraid I'm still not totally clear. Do you also accept and respect LGBTQ+ people as they are when you don't know them or if they're not necessarily good to have in your life personally? The way I view people's sexuality is, "As long as it is consensual and rooted in respect, I don't have to personally understand it to support it." I'm trying to understand if it's an exception you make for individuals you feel connected to or if that acceptance and respect extends to queer people in general. Thank you for your patience and willingness to clarify.

I just have to tell you that I think you have such a beautiful spirit and your love for people is so apparent in your videos. I love that. I really appreciate your transparency in sharing your experiences. As I’ve gotten older the more refreshing this feels - it’s so hard finding unapologetically honest people in this world. What I like about your comments is how you’re direct, but you have a gentleness when explaining your thoughts and opinions. You don’t give off bitter vibes that could potentially turn people away who need to hear what you have to say. Everything you’re saying regarding the LBGTQ+ community is important and needs to be heard. I want to believe that people who are opposed to Pride are only so because they’re uneducated and videos like this will hopefully open their minds to what it actually represents. I truly believe we are on this earth for each other and we all have a desire to experience love through relationships. What I don’t believe is that it’s only ok if it’s between a man and a woman. I will say that we have two women in our family who were together for a decade before they were able to get married, and let me tell you - they are the only marriage on my husband’s side that has not ended. How could that possibly be “sinful” like you said about yourself and Grace? Growing up in a Christian home I heard the whole “hate the sin, love the sinner” comment a lot. Sure, I feel like I can say this about things like lying, cheating, etc, but to equate those things to two people of the same sex loving each other? No. Jesus did not talk about homosexuality - He talked more about not judging others, self-righteousness, and looking out for each other. To a point where he got so angry at these things He kicked down tables at the temple to make His point. The conservative Christian community seems to forget this and they’ll do anything to spout out Bible passages that are taken out of context in order to fulfill their own agenda. It’s just gross. As a straight white woman living a cushy life in Minnesota, I have so much to learn about the lives of those who are in the minority and I enjoy hearing the advice you have for people like me who want to know how they can support you. There have been times when I want to ask questions but I feel like an idiot for even asking, or I’m afraid of coming off the wrong way. So your answers are a great resource for me. How cool is it that you’re doing what you’re doing?? You’re an important voice in a stereotypically conservative doll community. What!? If you would have told me before Covid that I would be in various AG groups I would have laughed, but I found a way to use my love for art and design through these dolls. And it seems like the passion that you have for signing and educating others about the LGBTQ+ people and Pride is coming full circle for you through these dolls as well. I love it. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Becky, I finally found your comment (or did you take the time to send it all over again?) Thank you so much for your kind words. The part about being "direct but kind" comes up a lot at work, too - In addition to interpreting, I also train newly hired interpreters at my job. They are not always ready for the work and sometimes I'm the one who has to have the hard conversations telling them so. One of my managers regularly tells me they appreciate my ability to be direct but kind with those individuals. So maybe that is a personality trait/ability I've cultivated and it seems to serve me (and hopefully others) well. I am so glad you ARE a part of various AG groups - your love of art and design has directly enhanced my love of these dolls :) And I am so glad that you are in this community - not just because of your talent - but because you bring kindness and a desire to learn and grow

Needless to say I did not end up going on that date. 15:18 I appreciate your boundaries in regard to the religious ideologies of saving face with the LGBTQA+ community with the love the sinner but not the sin. I have witnessed this hugely within the last 5 years since my father passed who was gay (he passed 10 years ago), they (family and friends) were homophobic when he was alive but retracted to this ideology after his passing. I definitely taking note of this boundary because it is so important to uphold respect on both dynamics of a friendship and relationship in a family. I appreciate the bravery you had to post this video Kristie! I loved hearing how you were impressed with societal progress in a positive light for younger generations in your parade video! I ended up purchasing Big Twist Living Pride yarn to make doll clothing inspired by the amazing outfits you had. Many of my family, friends and coworkers seem to struggle with this concept and I find myself educating them in small ways. I have learned some new terminology both from you and in the comments. It’s crazy to me that anybody could look at your relationship and family and think it’s lesser than. All I see is a loving & caring and healthy, happy family that I enjoy being around. I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I hope I always continue to learn and grow. I’m also concerned with the regression that has been happening in this country in regards to civil, reproductive, and lgbtq+ rights and the possibility that these rights and also environmental protections could be further eroded fuels me for November. I agree that AG will never have a trans character and will no longer show lgbtq+ representation at all. I think the inclusion of Kira’s aunts was a small step for them to test the waters and the backlash they received for that minute portion of her story and also the body book showed them it was unfortunately too much of a financial risk. It baffles me how the smallest things get peoples’ knickers all twisted. SMH…
